Comparison of ECMWF surface meteorology and buoy observations in the Ligurian Sea
Since numerical weather prediction (NWP) models are usually used to force ocean circulation models, it is important to investigate their skill in reproducing surface meteorological parameters in open sea conditions. Near-surface meteorological data (air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction) have been acquired from several sensors deployed on an offshore large spar buoy in the Ligurian Sea (Northern Mediterranean Sea) from February to December 2000. The buoy collected 7857 valid records out of 8040 during 335 days at sea. These observations have been compared with data from NWP models and specifically, the outputs of the ECMWF analysis in the two grid points closest to the buoy position. Hourly data acquired by the buoy have been undersampled to fit the data set of the model composed by values computed at the four synoptic hours. For each mentioned meteorological parameter an analysis has been performed by evaluating instantaneous synoptic differences, distributions, daily and annual variations and related statistics. The comparison shows that the model reproduces correctly the baric field while significant differences result for the other variables, which are more affected by local conditions. This suggests that the observed discrepancies may be due to the poor resolution of the model that probably is not sufficient to appropriately discriminate between land and ocean surfaces in a small basin such as the Ligurian Sea and to take into account local peculiarities. The use of time- and space-averaged model data reduces the differences with respect to the in situ observations, thus making the model data usable for analysis with minor requirements about time and space resolution. Although this comparison is strongly limited and we cannot exclude measurement errors, its results suggest a great caution in the use of the model data, especially at high frequency resolution. They may lead to incorrect estimates of atmospheric forcing into ocean circulation models, causing important errors in those areas, such as the Mediterranean Sea, where ocean circulation is strongly coupled with atmosphere and its high variability

Il saggio parte dal dittico tragico contemporaneo di Werner Schroeter ANTIGONE//ELEKTRA (2009, Berlino, Volksb\ufchne) e ricostruisce le premesse storiche e critiche di questo inusitato accostamento drammaturgico e scenico della traduzione da Sofocle di Friedrich H\uf6lderlin ("Antigon\ue4", 1804) e della tragedia \u201cliberamente tratta da Sofocle\u201d di Hugo von Hofmannsthal ("Elektra", 1903). Il filo rosso di una rivivificazione dell\u2019antico nella dialettica fra proprio ed estraneo, fra distanza e attualizzazione, permette di gettare nuova luce su capitoli fondamentali del dramma e del teatro di lingua tedesca d\u2019ispirazione antica.Starting from Werner Schroeter\u2019s production ANTIGONE//ELEKTRA (2009, Berlin, Volksb\ufchne), the paper traces back the unique dramaturgic and scenic connection of Friedrich H\uf6lderlin\u2019s translation of Sophocles\u2019 "Antigon\ue4" (1804) and Hugo von Hofmannsthal\u2019s rewriting of Sophocles "Elektra" (1903) to some parallels between the two poets\u2019 anticlassicist positions around 1800 and 1900 and the Berlin contemporary project. Hölderlin-Brecht-Müller è stata oggetto di alcune letture critiche, anche se gran parte dell’attenzione scientifica si è concentrata di volta in volta vuoi sul Sofocle hölderliniano, vuoi su una delle due rielaborazioni novecentesche. Il contributo, dopo una necessaria premessa contestualizzante, intende illuminare la triplice costellazione da un angolo finora poco battuto dagli studi specifici: si tenta di rovesciare l’ assunto critico che rintraccia solo nei tardi rielaboratori una precisa intenzionalità performativa nella (ri-)scrittura di Sofocle e si ripercorre a ritroso la filiazione fino al suo momento d’origine, dove già la traduzione e il commento dei drammi antichi sono intesi come forme di scrittura creativa e interpretativa finalizzate alla vivificazione concreta, sulla scena, della parola tragica

After a brief discussion of Grete Weil\u2019s liminal position in the context of Twentieth-Century German-Jewish Women\u2019s Literature, the present contribution outlines the key issues of her prose works between 1949 and 1999 and focuses then on her third novel, \u201cGenerations\u201d (1983). As a matter of fact, this often neglected work proves to be a metafiction exploring the possibilities, frustrations and success of German-Jewish Women\u2019s writing in post-war West Germany. Thus, a new interpretation of this audacious novel is put forward. Whereas both the deconstruction of cultural taboos and the construction of a dialogue between three generations of women fail in the fictional \u201cexperiment\u201d, they are actually achieved in the literary act of writing

Starting from the representation of the hunger motif in Primo Levi\u2019s "If This Is a Man" (It. 1947, Engl. 1959) and its variation in George Tabori\u2019s "black mass" "The Cannibals" (Engl. 1968, Germ. 1969), the contribution aims to re-interpret the complex relationship of autobiographical, historical and fictional elements in the celebrated drama of the Jewish romancier and dramatist (1914-2007), who famously had "a mother tongue, Hungarian, a father tongue, English, and an uncle tongue, German". The metadramatic structure, combined with the focus on emotional, active memory, is thus related to the intertextual medley of the play as a sign for Tabori\u2019s search of a "third way" in representing the Holocaust on the stage, moving away both from documentarian realism and sentimental celebration of the victims
