Toxicokinetic behaviors and modes of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctane acid (PFOA) on tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)
Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctane acid (PFOA) are widely distributed environmentally persistent organic pollutants found at low levels in human and wildlife ecosystem. The objectives of the current study were to investigate toxicokinetic behaviors and modes of PFOS and PFOA on tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The toxicokinetic behaviors and modes of PFOS and PFOA are different in tilapia during experimental periods. Exposure to both PFOS and PFOA was approximately 5 to 6 times higher for male tilapia than for female tilapia. The terminal half-life of PFOA in serum was about 4 times longer for male tilapia than for female tilapia. The apparent volume of distribution for PFOS and PFOA in the serum was about 3 to 4 times higher for female tilapia than for male tilapia. The lymphocytes level decreased rapidly with the increased PFOA concentration. A similar pattern was observed with the PFOS exposure, and it is remarkable that PFOS and PFOA were significantly accumulated in both PFOS and PFOA exposure but PFOA showed a greater effect than PFOS. PFOA blood concentrations were lesser than the limit of quantification in non-exposure tilapia during an uptake period, while measured PFOS concentrations were at least six times lesser than those in PFOS exposure. Tilapia weight gain was also decreased with statistical significance in all PFOA-treated groups, and the effect of PFOA was higher than that of PFOS. The effects of PFOA in survival percent were more pronounced in this case than that of PFOS. Moreover, PFOA had similar mode, and PFOS and PFOA can inhibit the 17β-HSD3 enzyme activity of tilapia.Key words: Toxicokinetic, behaviors, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctane acid (PFOA), tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)
Higgs boson production in photon-photon collision at ILC: a comparative study in different little Higgs models
We study the process \gamma\gamma->h->bb_bar at ILC as a probe of different
little Higgs models, including the simplest little Higgs model (SLH), the
littlest Higgs model (LH), and two types of littlest Higgs models with T-parity
(LHT-I, LHT-II). Compared with the Standard Model (SM) prediction, the
production rate is found to be sizably altered in these little Higgs models
and, more interestingly, different models give different predictions. We find
that the production rate can be possibly enhanced only in the LHT-II for some
part of the parameter space, while in all other cases the rate is suppressed.
The suppression can be 10% in the LH and as much as 60% in both the SLH and the
LHT-I/LHT-II. The severe suppression in the SLH happens for a large \tan\beta
and a small m_h, in which the new decay mode h->\eta\eta (\eta is a light
pseudo-scalar) is dominant; while for the LHT-I/LHT-II the large suppression
occurs when f and m_h are both small so that the new decay mode h->A_H A_H is
dominant. Therefore, the precision measurement of such a production process at
the ILC will allow for a test of these models and even distinguish between
different scenarios.Comment: Version in JHEP (h-g-g & h-gamma-gamma expressions added
Disparities and risks of sexually transmissible infections among men who have sex with men in China: a meta-analysis and data synthesis.
BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including Hepatitis B and C virus, are emerging public health risks in China, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). This study aims to assess the magnitude and risks of STIs among Chinese MSM. METHODS: Chinese and English peer-reviewed articles were searched in five electronic databases from January 2000 to February 2013. Pooled prevalence estimates for each STI infection were calculated using meta-analysis. Infection risks of STIs in MSM, HIV-positive MSM and male sex workers (MSW) were obtained. This review followed the PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO. RESULTS: Eighty-eight articles (11 in English and 77 in Chinese) investigating 35,203 MSM in 28 provinces were included in this review. The prevalence levels of STIs among MSM were 6.3% (95% CI: 3.5-11.0%) for chlamydia, 1.5% (0.7-2.9%) for genital wart, 1.9% (1.3-2.7%) for gonorrhoea, 8.9% (7.8-10.2%) for hepatitis B (HBV), 1.2% (1.0-1.6%) for hepatitis C (HCV), 66.3% (57.4-74.1%) for human papillomavirus (HPV), 10.6% (6.2-17.6%) for herpes simplex virus (HSV-2) and 4.3% (3.2-5.8%) for Ureaplasma urealyticum. HIV-positive MSM have consistently higher odds of all these infections than the broader MSM population. As a subgroup of MSM, MSW were 2.5 (1.4-4.7), 5.7 (2.7-12.3), and 2.2 (1.4-3.7) times more likely to be infected with chlamydia, gonorrhoea and HCV than the broader MSM population, respectively. CONCLUSION: Prevalence levels of STIs among MSW were significantly higher than the broader MSM population. Co-infection of HIV and STIs were prevalent among Chinese MSM. Integration of HIV and STIs healthcare and surveillance systems is essential in providing effective HIV/STIs preventive measures and treatments. TRIAL REGISTRATION: PROSPERO NO: CRD42013003721
The E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIM25 regulates adipocyte differentiation via proteasomemediated degradation of PPAR gamma
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR??) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor that regulates adipocyte differentiation and glucose homeostasis. The transcriptional activity of PPAR?? is regulated not only by ligands but also by post-translational modifications (PTMs). In this study, we demonstrate that a novel E3 ligase of PPAR??, tripartite motif-containing 25 (TRIM25), directly induced the ubiquitination of PPAR??, leading to its proteasome-dependent degradation. During adipocyte differentiation, both TRIM25 mRNA and protein expression significantly decreased and negatively correlated with the expression of PPAR??. The stable expression of TRIM25 reduced PPAR?? protein levels and suppressed adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. In contrast, the specific knockdown of TRIM25 increased PPAR?? protein levels and stimulated adipocyte differentiation. Furthermore, TRIM25-knockout mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) exhibited an increased adipocyte differentiation capability compared with wild-type MEFs. Taken together, these data indicate that TRIM25 is a novel E3 ubiquitin ligase of PPAR?? and that TRIM25 is a novel target for PPAR??-associated metabolic diseases
Observation of a ppb mass threshoud enhancement in \psi^\prime\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi(J/\psi\to\gamma p\bar{p}) decay
The decay channel
is studied using a sample of events collected
by the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. A strong enhancement at threshold is
observed in the invariant mass spectrum. The enhancement can be fit
with an -wave Breit-Wigner resonance function with a resulting peak mass of
and a
narrow width that is at the 90% confidence level.
These results are consistent with published BESII results. These mass and width
values do not match with those of any known meson resonance.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics

Higher-order multipole amplitude measurement in ψ ′→γχ c2
Using 106×106 ψ ′ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the higher-order multipole amplitudes in the radiative transition ψ ′→γχ c2→γπ +π -/γK +K - are measured. A fit to the χ c2 production and decay angular distributions yields M2=0.046±0. 010±0.013 and E3=0.015±0.008±0.018, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Here M2 denotes the normalized magnetic quadrupole amplitude and E3 the normalized electric octupole amplitude. This measurement shows evidence for the existence of the M2 signal with 4.4σ statistical significance and is consistent with the charm quark having no anomalous magnetic moment. © 2011 American Physical Society.published_or_final_versio

Branching fraction measurements of χc0 and χc2 to π0π0 and ηη
Using a sample of 1.06×108 ψ ′ decays collected by the BESIII detector, χc0 and χc2 decays into π0π0 and ηη are studied. The branching fraction results are Br(χc0→π 0π0)=(3.23±0.03±0.23±0.14)×10 -3, Br(χc2→π0π0)=(8.8±0.2±0.6±0.4)×10 -4, Br(χc0→ηη)=(3.44±0.10±0. 24±0.2)×10 -3, and Br(χc2→ηη)=(6. 5±0.4±0.5±0.3)×10 -4, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic due to this measurement, and systematic due to the branching fractions of ψ ′→ γχcJ. The results provide information on the decay mechanism of χc states into pseudoscalars. © 2010 The American Physical Society.published_or_final_versio
