We have measured production cross sections and longitudinal momentum distributions of fragments from neutron-deficient 36Ar at 1.05 A.GeV. The production cross-sections show excellent agreement with the predictions of the semiempirical formula EPAX. We have compared these results, involving extremly neutron deficient nuclei, with model calculations to extract informa tion about the response of these models close to the driplines. The longitudinal momentum distributions have also been extracted and are compared with the Goldhaber and Morrissey systematics.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure

Measurement of two-halo neutron transfer reaction p(11^{11}Li,9^{9}Li)t at 3AA MeV

The p(\nuc{11}{Li},\nuc{9}{Li})t reaction has been studied for the first time at an incident energy of 3AA MeV delivered by the new ISAC-2 facility at TRIUMF. An active target detector MAYA, build at GANIL, was used for the measurement. The differential cross sectionshave been determined for transitions to the \nuc{9}{Li} ground andthe first excited states in a wide range of scattering angles. Multistep transfer calculations using different \nuc{11}{Li} model wave functions, shows that wave functions with strong correlations between the halo neutrons are the most successful in reproducing the observation.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

Measurement of the Ge 70 (n,γ) cross section up to 300 keV at the CERN n-TOF facility

©2019 American Physical Society.Neutron capture data on intermediate mass nuclei are of key importance to nucleosynthesis in the weak component of the slow neutron capture processes, which occurs in massive stars. The (n,γ) cross section on Ge70, which is mainly produced in the s process, was measured at the neutron time-of-flight facility n-TOF at CERN. Resonance capture kernels were determined up to 40 keV neutron energy and average cross sections up to 300 keV. Stellar cross sections were calculated from kT=5 keV to kT=100 keV and are in very good agreement with a previous measurement by Walter and Beer (1985) and recent evaluations. Average cross sections are in agreement with Walter and Beer (1985) over most of the neutron energy range covered, while they are systematically smaller for neutron energies above 150 keV. We have calculated isotopic abundances produced in s-process environments in a 25 solar mass star for two initial metallicities (below solar and close to solar). While the low metallicity model reproduces best the solar system germanium isotopic abundances, the close to solar model shows a good global match to solar system abundances in the range of mass numbers A=60-80.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio

Accumulation of p53 protein in normal, dysplastic, and neoplastic Barrett's oesophagus

Accumulation of p53 protein was determined by immunohistochemisty in archival material of biopsy specimens from 102 patients with Barrett's oesophagus with different grades of dysplasia, in 24 oesophageal adenocarcinomas associated with Barrett's oesophagus, and in 23 cases of metaplatic epithelium adjacent to these carcinomas. Immunostaining for the p53 protein was found in 23/102 (23 per cent) cases of the Barrett's oesophagus biopsies and in 12/23 (52 per cent) cases of Barrett's oesophagus adjacent to adenocarcinoma. Significant correlations were found between the grade of dysplasia and p53 immunoreactivity in both Barrett's biopsies without adenocarcinoma (P<0.001) and Barrett's oesophagus adjacent to adenocarcinoma (P<0.05). In the adenocarcinomas, intense nuclear immunohistochemical staining for p53 was diffusely or focally present in 20/24 (83 per cent) of the specimens. In Barrett's oesophagus, p53 is a progression marker with high expression in high-grade dysplasia (89 per cent) and adenocarcinoma (83 per cent)

Sequence-selective DNA recognition and enhanced cellular up-take by peptide–steroid conjugates

Several GCN4 bZIP TF models have previously been designed and synthesized. However, the synthetic routes towards these constructs are typically tedious and difficult. We here describe the substitution of the Leucine zipper domain of the protein by a deoxycholic acid derivative appending the two GCN4 binding region peptides through an optimized double azide–alkyne cycloaddition click reaction. In addition to achieving sequence specific dsDNA binding, we have investigated the potential of these compounds to enter cells. Confocal microscopy and flow cytometry show the beneficial influence of the steroid on cell uptake. This unique synthetic model of the bZIP TF thus combines sequence specific dsDNA binding properties with enhanced cell-uptake. Given the unique properties of deoxycholic acid and the convergent nature of the synthesis, we believe this work represents a key achievement in the field of TF mimicry

Development of contrast enhancement after long-term observation of a dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor

ManuscriptDysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNET) are usually benign lesions that arise in cortical regions and are discovered after new onset of seizure. These lesions have many different imaging characteristics. We report a patient with a presumed low-grade medial temporal lobe lesion that was followed for many years without any change in size or imaging characteristics. This previously non-enhancing tumor evolved to become contrast enhanced on routine imaging without apparent tumor growth. The patient underwent surgery, and the pathology was confirmed as a DNET with no atypical changes. This case demonstrates the potential that DNETs may exhibit a changing MRI pattern over time. Natural history, imaging characteristics, and management are reviewed

Isotopic Resolution of Fission Fragments from 238U+12C Transfer and Fusion Reactions

Expérience GANILInternational audienceRecent results from an experiment at GANIL, performed to investigate the main properties of fission-fragment yields and energy distributions in different fissioning nuclei as a function of the excitation energy, in a neutron-rich region of actinides, are presented. Transfer reactions in inverse kinematics between a 238U beam and a 12C target produced different actinides, within a range of excitation energy below 30 MeV. These fissioning nuclei are identified by detecting the target-like recoil, and their kinetic and excitation energy are determined from the reconstruction of the transfer reaction. The large-acceptance spectrometer VAMOS was used to identify the mass, atomic number and charge state of the fission fragments in flight. As a result, the characteristics of the fission-fragment isotopic distributions of a variety of neutron-rich actinides are observed for the first time over the complete range of fission fragments
