Learning process on Sociology of Sport had not achieved an adequate result yet. There were some probalities that were the causes. Some of them had been identified such as inability of the students to learn it and non-transformable teaching method. Therefore, developing teaching learning process by refering to the new inventions about teaching learning and method had been needed. This research aims to develop the learning quality of Sociology of Sport by applying recent method on learning. They are quantum learning and quantum teaching. Second years Students of Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) were involved in this research. They were students who took Sociology of Sport course in the academic year 1003/2004. Classroom action research. Was the kind of research we used. Questionnaire and focus Group Discussion were employed to collect the data. This research also concerned with the seconded information such as mid term/final examination, learning style test, and the other possible data. The result revelated that students had attentions, involvement, and good appreciation towards the course. Additionally, this research had improved the achievement of student's learning competencies that were showed by the increasing of their marks. MENEMUKAN KEMBALI "MANUSIA" BERSAMA SEPAK BOLA

Bacterial pathogenesis of plants: Future challenges from a microbial perspective

    Get PDF
Plant infection is a complicated process. Upon encountering a plant, pathogenic microorganisms must first adapt to life on the epiphytic surface, and survive long enough to initiate an infection. Responsiveness to the environment is critical throughout infection, with intracellular and community-level signal transduction pathways integrating environmental signals and triggering appropriate responses in the bacterial population. Ultimately, phytopathogens must migrate from the epiphytic surface into the plant tissue using motility and chemotaxis pathways. This migration is coupled to overcoming the physical and chemical barriers to entry into the plant apoplast. Once inside the plant, bacteria use an array of secretion systems to release phytotoxins and protein effectors that fulfil diverse pathogenic functions (Fig. 1)(Phan Tran et al., 2011, Melotto & Kunkel, 2013)

Gene Structure Evolution of the Na+-Ca2+ Exchanger (NCX) Family

Abstract Background The Na+-Ca2+ exchanger (NCX) is an important regulator of cytosolic Ca2+ levels. Many of its structural features are highly conserved across a wide range of species. Invertebrates have a single NCX gene, whereas vertebrate species have multiple NCX genes as a result of at least two duplication events. To examine the molecular evolution of NCX genes and understand the role of duplicated genes in the evolution of the vertebrate NCX gene family, we carried out phylogenetic analyses of NCX genes and compared NCX gene structures from sequenced genomes and individual clones. Results A single NCX in invertebrates and the protochordate Ciona, and the presence of at least four NCX genes in the genomes of teleosts, an amphibian, and a reptile suggest that a four member gene family arose in a basal vertebrate. Extensive examination of mammalian and avian genomes and synteny analysis argue that NCX4 may be lost in these lineages. Duplicates for NCX1, NCX2, and NCX4 were found in all sequenced teleost genomes. The presence of seven genes encoding NCX homologs may provide teleosts with the functional specialization analogous to the alternate splicing strategy seen with the three NCX mammalian homologs. Conclusion We have demonstrated that NCX4 is present in teleost, amphibian and reptilian species but has been secondarily and independently lost in mammals and birds. Comparative studies on conserved vertebrate homologs have provided a possible evolutionary route taken by gene duplicates subfunctionalization by minimizing homolog number.</p

At the end of June, over 120 microbiologists from 18 countries gathered in Dundee, Scotland for the fourth edition of the Young Microbiologists Symposium on ‘Microbe Signalling, Organisation and Pathogenesis’. The aim of the symposium was to give early career microbiologists the opportunity to present their work in a convivial environment and to interact with senior world-renowned scientists in exciting fields of microbiology research. The meeting was supported by the Microbiology Society, the Society of Applied Microbiology and the American Society for Microbiology with further sponsorship from the European Molecular Biology Organisation and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In this report, we highlight some themes that emerged from the many interesting talks and poster presentations, as well as some of the other activities that were on offer at this energetic meeting

The Meaning of Physical Activity from the Perspective of Indonesian Immigrant Youth

    Get PDF
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine what constitutes the experience of physical activity for Indonesian immigrant youth. Fifteen Indonesian young people aged 13 to 18 participated in the study. Data were collected through two sets of interviews. During the first set of interviews, data were gathered about physical activity experiences and the meanings that the youth ascribed to their participation. A second set of interviews were conducted to collect information about the participants’ strategies for engaging Indonesian immigrants in physical activity. Seven purposefully selected participants were the respondents in these interviews. Data were analyzed using a three step phenomenological data analysis process: horizonalization, textural and structural descriptions, and the essence of physical activity experience (Moustakas, 1994). Results indicated that the meanings of physical activity included the moving body anchored in naturalistic views of the body. Participants also identified the institutionalized forms of physical culture, along with their forms, purposes, and significance in their lives. These meanings were ascribed to their actual physical activity experiences which partly reflected acculturation processes. Results also revealed facilitators of, and barriers to, physical activity participation which were relatively similar to other groups of young people. However, the enabling factors might ineffectively facilitate participation and the hindering factors emerged as more powerful obstacles. Finally, results identified strategies to engage Indonesian immigrant youth in physical activity from the participants’ perspectives. These strategies included proactive outreach efforts by agencies providing physical activity programs. Participants’ voices and aspirations demonstrated that their cultural uniqueness might not immediately constitute the cultural capital to engage with major institutionalized forms of physical culture, especially among those who recently arrived in the United States

The third Young Microbiologists Symposium took place on the vibrant campus of the University of Dundee, Scotland, from the 2nd to 3rd of June 2014. The symposium attracted over 150 microbiologists from 17 different countries. The significant characteristic of this meeting was that it was specifically aimed at providing a forum for junior scientists to present their work. The meeting was supported by the Society for General Microbiology and the American Society for Microbiology, with further sponsorship from the European Molecular Biology Organization, the Federation of European Microbiological Societies, and The Royal Society of Edinburgh. In this report, we highlight some themes that emerged from the many exciting talks and poster presentations given by the young and talented microbiologists in the area of microbial gene expression, regulation, biogenesis, pathogenicity, and host interaction.</p
