I Came Here a Stranger, A Stranger I Depart.

34 paintings that set out to achieve visual equivalences of the multilayered narratives of Schubert’s Winterreise and John Clare’s Journey out of Essex, with the aim of developing the liminal, fictive territory that can be seen to exist in and between them. Work was exhibited at Eagle Gallery, London (I Came Here a Stranger) and Campden Gallery, Gloucestershire (As a Stranger I Depart). One of the paintings is now in the collection of the Jerwood Foundation, London. Two other paintings were procured for The Hive, Worcester’s art collection by WLHC ProjectCo. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue, JAMES FISHER. A Quiet Companion

10 paintings and 10 works on paper drawing on the phenomenology of walking, and attendant experiences of landscape and human companionship, to explore “the possibility of holding a similar near-silence in the paintings’ still surface”. Works were shown at the Campden Gallery, Gloucestershire; the exhibition was accompanied by a folded, card publication containing a text by Fisher and six colour illustrations. Two paintings were subsequently selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2012 and illustrated and discussed in Royal Academy Illustrated 2010 pub. Royal Academy of Arts, 2012.
