Long-term outcome of dental implants after maxillary augmentation with and without bone grafting
Background: This study aims to evaluate the technique of sinus bone reformation, which consists of elevating the
sinus membrane and placement the implant without bone graft, compared with the widely-used technique involving
raising the maxillary sinus and grafting, using animal hydroxyapatite as the filler, while simultaneously fixing
the implants.
Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study on two groups of patients who underwent elevation of the sinus
membrane and simultaneous placement of the implant. The grafting technique was applied to one group, while
the other had no graft. An alveolar ridge height of 4 to 7 mm was necessary. Radiological control was undertaken
at 6 months and one year post-prosthetic loading. In each group 38 implants were placed.
Results: No significant behavioural differences were observed in the implants according to the Albrektsson success
criteria. Implant failure was observed in 2 implants from the bone grafting group (success rate 93%) and in
1 implant from the reformation group (success rate 97%). In this group, bone formation was observed on both
sides of each implant, the bone gain was measured using image management software (2.7±0.9mm mesial and
2.6±0.9mm distal). There was no correlation between mesial and distal bone gain and implant´s length.
Conclusions: The results indicate that bone reformation is a valid technique in cases involving atrophy of the posterior
maxilla. Primary stability, maintenance of space by the implant, and the formation of a blood clot are crucial in
this technique in order to achieve bone formation around the implant. It is an alternative to the conventional technique
of sinus lift with filling material, and has several advantages over this procedure, including a lower infection
risk, as it does not involve a biomaterial, reduced cost, a simpler technique, and better acceptance by the patien
A Pictured Weekend
Environmental Writing and Great Lakes LiteratureThe best twenty-four hours I experienced in Northern Michigan started on a delightfully sunny Saturday afternoon. After printing out some last minute driving directions my boyfriend, John and I set out for a romantic getaway to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula. I had been looking forward to this trip for weeks and couldn’t wait to begin my adventure with my partner in crime. Neither John nor I had ever visited the northern wilderness of the Upper Peninsula so this was going to be a new shared experience for both of us. We hit the road in hopes of catching sunset over the Mackinaw Bridge and arrived in Mackinaw City in no time. By this time it was close to dinner time and our bellies were growling with hunger so we decided to indulge on pizza and beer. Directly after dinner we made our way to the shoreline of Lake Michigan and strolled along the water’s edge hand in hand.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/61468/1/Fuentes_2008.pd
The flow of aquatic nitrogen from ants to antlions on the Sturgeon Bay dunes
General EcologyIn order to determine the effect of distance from the shoreline on nitrogen levels in terrestrial organisms living in a dune habitat, we quantified the nitrogen content of both ant and antlion species looking at the δ¹⁵N/¹⁴N ratio. We collected ants and antlions at Sturgeon Bay of Lake Michigan in Wilderness State Park, taking samples from ten different locations at varying distances between the tree line and the shoreline and measured the nitrogen levels found in all of the samples. Additional samples were collected from a terrestrial environment as well as algae samples collected from an aquatic environment which served as a base comparison standard for Nitrogen values. When looking at nitrogen values and distances from the shoreline we found no significant statistical correlation suggesting that further research may be needed in order to find a more significant correlation.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/61494/1/Fuentes_Cara_2008.pd
Aproximación cualitativa del escudriño en Psicología educativa
It was difficult for the interpretive opposing approach to fight the previous exclusive current with its ideographic approach to the study of a now subjective reality, which was consolidated and applied to practice with the transformative intention of the complementary socio-critical approach2, and through some of the qualitative methods: a) in the first approach, through the participant or non-participant ethnographic observation, instrumental, institutional, individual or collective study cases that provide understanding rather than previous description; b) in the second one, through the research-action or research based on the design that reverts the situation studied to free and improve it.El enfoque funcionalista tradicional en la representación y abordaje de la Ciencia ha dejado una férrea herencia metodológica de investigación de objetos y fenómenos objetivos con intención puramente nomotética de describirlos avanzado hacia principios y leyes generales, atemporales y universales, bajo métodos cuantitativos.
In a world in which the scientific developments occur in a vertiginous way and whose societies demand a prompt and complete juridical regulation, the “agroambiental” law, as a response from de administrative law, constitutes the suitable juridical tool to govern the “agroambiental” sector of the economy.
The creation of apps with good parameters of applicability and functionality is a complex
and highly researched task nowadays, especially if the latest contributions of
Neuroeducation and educational technology are taken into account. However, this task will
require more attention when apps are created and designed for people with autism, where
usability and accessibility are of vital importance. The purpose of this study was to learn the
opinion and perception of professionals who work with people with autism on the
functionality and applicability of apps specifically for this disorder. Taking a quantitative
approach, with a descriptive design, we administered the DPTIC-AUT-Q questionnaire to 159
educators from Granada (Spain) who worked specifically with people with autism. In
general, the participants showed a favorable perception of the functionality and
applicability of the apps, but highlighted improvements that could be made in their
accessibility and how they functioned. We found statistically significant differences
according to the age of the participants and the area and educational stage they worked in.
This study also underlines the importance of having accessible apps that make it easy for
people with autism to use and take advantage of them
Diagnostic and Prognostic Role of CD93 in Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review
Introduction. Cluster of Differentiation (CD) 93 (also known as complement protein 1 q subcomponent receptor C1qR1 or C1qRp) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that can also be present in a soluble (sCD93) form. Recent studies have investigated the role of this protein in cardiovascular disease (CVD). The present systematic review aims to assess the associations between CD93 and cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and disease at both the proteomic and genomic levels. Methods. We conducted systematic searches in the PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases to identify all human studies since inception to February 2023 that investigated the role of CD93 in CV risk factors, CVD, and CV-associated outcomes. The data collection and analysis have been independently conducted by two reviewers. The search terms included: cardiovascular, heart failure, acute stroke, myocardial infarction, stroke, peripheral artery disease, cardiovascular death, MACE, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, hyperuricemia, diabetes, cd93, c1qr, C1qR1, complement protein 1 q subcomponent receptor. Results. A total of 182 references were identified, and 15 studies investigating the associations between CD93 protein levels or CD93 genetic polymorphisms and the development or prevalence of CV risk factors (i.e., hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity) and CVD (i.e., heart failure, coronary artery disease, and ischemic stroke) were included. Although promising, the quality and dimension of the analyzed studies do not allow for a definitive answer to the question of whether CD93 may hold diagnostic and prognostic value in CVD
ICT training for educators of Granada for working with people with autism
Background: Innovative methodologies based on Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) are a tested and motivating option for working with people with autism. Their use, how-
ever, should not be indiscriminatory and arbitrary, but didactic and appropriate.
Objective: We aimed to discover the training in ICT they had, its frequency of use, and the types of
digital resources that they used.
Methods: We administered the questionnaire, “Demands and Potentials of ICT and Apps for
Assisting People with Autism” to 310 educators in the city of Granada (Spain). The participants
belonged to schools and associations that worked with people with autism. Adopting a
quantitative-type study, we carried out descriptive analyses (frequencies, mean, mode, and
standard deviation). Having confirmed that the data did not follow a normal distribution (Kol-
mogorov-Smirnov test for samples of >50 participants), we carried out non-parametric inferential
and intrafactorial correlation analyses. We also calculated the effect size.
Results: The educators revealed that they had ICT training for working with people with autism,
but not enough. This suggests that there is still a need to improve the digital competence of these
professionals. Strong, direct and significant correlations were found between ICT training and the
frequency with which they were used. There were also statistically significant differences ac-
cording to sex, gender, age, type of institution, and type of educator. The educators who worked
as Therapeutic Pedagogy teachers and those who worked in Special Education schools were
shown to be more competent than the rest in educational technology applied to people with
autism.
Conclusions: The results, which were not wholly positive since ICT training should be better and
have achieved higher scores, revealed that there is a foundation in ICT education but it needs to
be heightened and improved with greater knowledge and more practical experience.Heliyon [Editors Hange Teng and Tomayess Issa]University of Granada (Spain

Analysis of pre-service teachers? attitudes towards inclusive education
The rise of global policies, guarantors of a democratic education, materialized in a model of inclusive school for everyone is not yet a tangible reality. Their education policies that are in place do not contribute to it?s cause. From this problem arises the purpose to study such professional education policies, in order to develop a consistent attitude, among professionals, with the acceptance of the otherness and it?s correspondent education requirements. The design followed for this study is quantitative, transversal, non-experimental, descriptive and correlational, making use of two standard and confirmed questioners, given to 712 university graduates, which data underwent different analysis: percentage, central tendency, dispersion, differentials and correlational. It is shown the correct attitude to deal with people with disabilities, as well as, the need to implement strategies to effectively attend to this groups in the academic context, after establishing differences between groups and the scarce consistency of individuals, which prevent us from talking about consolidated patterns
