Electron-attachment rates for carbon-rich molecules in protoplanetary atmospheres: the role of chemical differences

The formation of anionic species in the interstellar medium from interaction of linear molecules containing carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen as atomic components (polyynes) with free electrons in the environment is modelled via a quantum treatment of the collision dynamics. The ensuing integral cross sections are employed to obtain the corresponding attachment rates over a broad range of temperatures for the electrons. The calculations unequivocally show that a parametrization form often employed for such rates yields a broad range of values that turn out to be specific for each molecular species considered, thus excluding using a unique set for the whole class of polyynes.Comment: accepted to be published on MNRA

2005 IFAC 16th Triennial World Congress, Prague, Czech RepublicThis paper presents a hybrid procedure to solve Model Predictive Controller (MPC) for Piecewise Affine System (PWA) The approach presented here belong to the class of Branch and Bound (B&B) methods. The procedure uses the concepts of reachable set combined to the specific B&B methods, in order to reduce the number of Quadratic Problems (QP) needed to be solved by the optimization algorithm

From whom to why, understanding customer’s intention with the use of persona

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to propose an alternative solution to the who segmentation. By using the persona tool, it has been possible to develop a why segmentation based on customers’ intention(s) – motivation(s). Following qualitative interviews, three personas have been created: the first persona is firstly interested by the hotel’s characteristics and services, the second persona is attracted firstly by the place where the hotel is located, and finally, the third persona is looking for both elements. To conclude the paper suggests implications for hotel’s managers and proposes a model regarding the quality of the hotel’s experience

Internet has modified our ways of living and our consumption habits – information, products and services. Nowadays, it is very easy to use the Internet in order to answer to a question or to satisfy a desire. Internet’s users know it and use Internet as a decision helper. The word-of-mouth tends to be digitalized. Today, a future client or a future user doesn’t need to ask its relatives to receive a feedback, he/she can directly go to the Internet to get thousands, millions of users’ comments on their lived experiences. One of the main industries impacted by the digitalized word-of-mouth is the tourism industry. Websites like TripAdvisor have become comments’ windows where users can find the information they need in order to plan their trips and especially make a choice. The Y generation is very interesting regarding the Internet development and will be analysed in a qualitative study. Their members – born between 1977 and 1997 – grown up with the Internet emergence and have taken over its functions methodologies. In this context, companies must consider these new ways of living and consuming

Sliding Mode Control for Trajectory Tracking of a Non-holonomic Mobile Robot using Adaptive Neural Networks

    Get PDF
In this work a sliding mode control method for a non-holonomic mobile robot using an adaptive neural network is proposed. Due to this property and restricted mobility, the trajectory tracking of this system has been one of the research topics for the last ten years. The proposed control structure combines a feedback linearization model, based on a nominal kinematic model, and a practical design that combines an indirect neural adaptation technique with sliding mode control to compensate for the dynamics of the robot. A neural sliding mode controller is used to approximate the equivalent control in the neighbourhood of the sliding manifold, using an online adaptation scheme. A sliding control is appended to ensure that the neural sliding mode control can achieve a stable closed-loop system for the trajectory-tracking control of a mobile robot with unknown non-linear dynamics. Also, the proposed control technique can reduce the steady-state error using the online adaptive neural network with sliding mode control; the design is based on Lyapunov’s theory. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in controlling mobile robots with large dynamic uncertaintiesFil: Rossomando, Francisco Guido. Electron attachment rates for PAH anions in the ISM and dark molecular clouds: dependence on their chemical properties

CONTEXT: The attachment of free electrons to polycondensed aromatic ring molecules (PAHs) is studied for the variety of these molecules with different numbers of condensed rings and over a broad range of electron temperatures, using a multichannel quantum scattering approach. The calculations of the relevant cross sections are used in turn to model the corresponding attachment rates for each of the systems under study, and these rates are parametrized as a function of temperature using a commonly employed expression for two-body processes in the interstellar medium (ISM). AIM: The scope of this work is to use first principles to establish the influence of chemical properties on the efficiency of the electron-attachment process for PAHs. METHODS: Quantum multichannel scattering methods are employed to generate the relevant cross sections, hence the attachment rates, using integral elastic cross sections computed over a broad range of relevant energies, from threshold up to 1000 K and linking the attachment to low-energy resonant collisions. RESULTS: The rates obtained for the present molecules are found to markedly vary within the test ensemble of the present work and to be lower than the earlier values used for the entire class of PAHs anions, when modelling their evolutions in ISM environments. The effects of such differences on the evolutions of chemical networks that include both PAH and PAH- species are analysed in some detail and related to previous calculations.Comment: accepted to be published on A&
