To optimize animal and pasture performance in management intensive grazing systems, pasture production and quality often must be compromised. Rotationally-stocking pastures at slightly taller grazing heights can increase pasture productivity, but lower forage quality may limit animal performance. Our objective was to compare the forage quality of common cool season pasture species in the Northeastern U.S., under two rotational grazing regimes defined by slightly different grass heights

Research on community resilience has been ongoing for decades. Several studies have been carried out on resilience in different groups and contexts. However, few address the relationship between community resilience and depopulated rural areas. This study aims to dig deeper into this, considering the concrete impact of population decline in Spain. We carried out a systematic review of the most relevant contributions. A search protocol was developed and used to consult ten databases. Different combinations of terms such as ‘community resilience’, ‘rural’, and ‘depopulation’, or related terms, were used. 22 scientific texts were analysed. We obtained a set of publications that demonstrate the heterogeneity of research methods, approaches and analytical processes applied to the study of this relationship. A mostly qualitative approach was observed, either as the main technique or complementary to documentary reviews. The results underscore the complex nature of rural depopulation and related constructs. It emphasizes the specific importance of community resilience in these territoriesin terms of social capital, endogenous resources, sustainability, economic dynamism, local responsibility and effective governance. The findings identify a scarce mention to social intervention professions, which should have a more important role due to their core values. In the studies reviewed, it appears as an emerging and scientifically relevant area to explore, both for investigation and intervention purposes. The strength of a multidisciplinary approach to addressing the phenomena appears in the discussion as a main potential line of research

Indigenous Peoples’ food systems, nutrition and gender:Conceptual and methodological considerations

Indigenous Peoples, especially women and children, are affected disproportionately by malnutrition and diet-related health problems. Addressing this requires an investigation of the structural conditions that underlie unequal access to resources and loss of traditional lifestyles, and necessitates inclusive approaches that shed light onto these issues and provide strategies to leverage change. Indigenous Peoples’ food systems are inextricably connected to land, which in turn is interwoven with issues of self-determination, livelihoods, health, cultural and spiritual heritage, and gender. Ongoing loss of land and the dominant agri-food model further threaten Indigenous Peoples’ food systems. Continuing gender-based discrimination undermines the self-determination and rights of women, and negatively impacts on their health, nutritional status, and overall wellbeing, as well as on the wellbeing of households and communities. We suggest that feminist political ecology and modern matriarchal studies provide holistic interlinking frameworks for investigating underlying issues of power and inequality. We further argue that a focus on the principles of respect, responsibility, and relationships, and an openness to different worldviews, can facilitate a bridging of Indigenous and Western approaches in research and community action conducted in partnership with Indigenous Peoples. This can contribute to creating new ways of knowing regarding Indigenous Peoples’ food systems, equally valuing both knowledge systems. Indigenous Peoples’ rights, right to food, and food sovereignty are frames that, despite some tensions, have the common goal of self-determination. Through their ability to inform, empower, and mobilize, they provide tools for social movements and communities to challenge existing structural inequalities and leverage social change. Global changes arise to society as a whole. However, the vitality and sustainability of certain geographical spaces have been particularly adversely affected. In rural areas, even survival has been at stake. To reduce the risks and vulnerabilities that occur in these contexts, a comprehensive, cooperative and complementary vision must be provided among all the key actors. In order to achieve sustainable rural communities, it is necessary, among other issues, to delve into their policies and consider them as full-fledged entities. The knowledge of those living in these regions, their background, their participation and their decision-making power over what competes with them should be appreciated. In this way, community resilience appears as an opportunity for evolution towards social justice. For this reason, the professionals who carry out their work in these rural communities, especially those who work as social practitioners, must provide a resilient approach in their analysis and actions. They must commit to a comprehensive approach, participatory, empowering and able to restructure from the bottom up when necessary: a transformative approach.

In 2003 the “San Ignacio de Loyola” church evidenced a concerning picture of cracking and fracturing that led to their preventive underpinning during five years. A summary of the Church structural behavior that enabled the design of proper reinforcements based on sound technical arguments is included. The background, field studies, features and purposes of several finite element models and the findings on the causes of cracking are detailed. Results could demonstrate that the observed damages were originated by the deterioration of the soil under Alsina street, in turns caused by the rupture of a pipeline transporting clean water. Some interesting details of the structural reinforcements made of reinforced concrete and special consideration of the issues that must be addressed to achieve the goals of structural and architectural compatibility, efficiency and durability are finally described.

The need for human rights education among Social Work professionals has been confirmed by several investigations on the subjetct. Its role is relevant for the development of competencies, attitudes and related knowledge among Undergraduate students (Degree in the Spanish university context). Accordingly, the present study seeks to relate the knowledge that university students of Social Work reach on human rights and ODS throughout their academic training with the contents that are collected for this in the subjects of their study plan. A multi-method approach is used, from which the perception of this knowledge among students of the Degree in Social Work at the University of Malaga (Spain) is explored, along with the analysis of the academic curriculum of this Degree. It is found that students have limited knowledge about the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, while human rights are better known. There is a need both to strengthen the human rights and SDG approach in the training received and for the various subjects that comprise it, to deepen the inherent relationship between these and the discipline of Social Work. &nbsp
