Bosa, located in the southwest of Bogota, has around 700,000 inhabitants, is one of the areas most recent urban development in Colombia, in the first decade of the century the population increased by 50% due to contradictory processes between formality and informality; is the only sector in Bogotá with conurbation. This article relates the history of urban planning process of this territory from the seventies, but the urban morphology, the focus is on design and urban management especially in the role of urban actors to transform adverse conditions, product informal development through self-management and citizen participation accompanied by government entities that have prioritized the development of housing projects of the city in the town, attracting private developers to generate increase in land prices and one of the highest rates of densification.Peer Reviewe

Transforming food systems under a changing climate in Latin America: A climate policy review

    Get PDF
Agriculture is highly vulnerable to climate change, but at the same time, it is the main contributor to climate change Governments have recognized that facing climate change is essential to address a sustainable development pathway, but so far little progress has been achieved Thus there is a need for rapid and transformative actions that tackle climate change impacts while achieving sustainable rural development Nevertheless, the way current policies are addressing actions towards transformative actions is unclear concerning sustainable pathways of food systems in the face of climate change. In this sense, this paper reviews current climate change-related policies of Latin American countries to identify whether they address transformational actions in the agricultural sector or food systems in relation to climate change Research questions include which countries state in their policies transformative actions? Are Latin American national policies in line with their international commitments? In order to answer these questions we used different methods of text analysis applied to the policy framework of Latin American countries to assess the integration level of eight components that Campbell et al 2018 propose in the theory of change to drive the transformation of food systems under climate chang

This paper seeks to investigate the options of Popular Housing Organizations to provide alternatives for access to adequate housing in Colombia (according to the Economic and Cultural Social Rights pact), based on the comparison between "Green City" in Soacha , The largest Macroproject of National Social Interest (with a production of about 50 thousand units) and the Association of Comprehensive Housing ASOVIVIR, which in the early 1990s built 550 single-family homes through a self-management process and gave rise to the Housing Federation Popular FENAVIP that developed more than 20,000 houses in the country, with certain differential advantages compared to the production of real estate agents for profit, with whom the National Government develops the Macroprojects, facilitating the massive adaptation of land for social housing but without generating housing units completely adequate to the needs of its inhabitants

Bose-Einstein Condensates in Charged Black-Hole Spacetimes

We analyze Bose-Einstein condensates on three types of spherically symmetric and static charged black-hole spacetimes: The Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetime, Hoffmann's Born-Infeld black-hole spacetime, and the regular Ay\'on-Beato-Garc\'ia spacetime. The Bose-Einstein condensate is modeled in terms of a massive scalar field that satisfies a Klein-Gordon equation with a self-interaction term. The scalar field is assumed to be uncharged and not self-gravitating. If the mass parameter of the scalar field is chosen sufficiently small, there are quasi-bound states of the scalar field that may be interpreted as dark matter clouds. We estimate the size and the total energy of such clouds around charged supermassive black holes and we investigate if their observable features can be used for discriminating between the different types of charged black holes.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figure

    Get PDF
The world´s economic center has moved for the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, in the past, and it seems that it follows a new trend towards the Pacific. The great potential of its market and the significant progress of the commercial cooperation between the countries within the Pacific basin, confirms the importance of this region that has become the new global economic center. Colombia has a privileged geographical position that provides the country with an important access to the commerce within the basin. However, its inclusion in this market has been weak and delayed, compared with other Latin American countries such as Chile, which has an active participation in this economic bloc through the past few decades. It has become necessary, that the country sets up new strategies aimed to achieve a change in its foreign policy. Theses will strengthen the commercial relations with other nations from the Pacific Basin, to take advantage of the opportunities that are present in this market and that can be crucial for the future economic development of the country

    Get PDF
To devise means to make fair and accurate assessment of oral communication skills is a complex task. This becomes even more obvious in engineering subjects, since lecturers are frequently not motivated to spend much time on this task and, also, it’s difficult to set down suitable procedures which enable a reliable evaluation of every aspect involved: synthesis ability, argument development, appropriate pleasant oral communication, body language, stage presence, subject mastery and presentation time control. Frequently, lecturers simply include an oral presentation as part of an assignment where students exercise some technical skills. Therefore, just a plain assessment of a few of the above mentioned aspects is carried out. This way, the stress is on the technical skills exercised, while the oral presentation is considered as something secondary, since students usually make considerable efforts to satisfactorily solve the assignment with hardly any interest in making an adequate oral presentation. These inconveniences become even more evident when the number of students in the class is high, which typically happens among first course subjects. In this paper, we show a practical scheme for the assessment of oral communication skills based on conducting group debates while some technical skills are also assessed

Calibration of piezoelectric positioning actuators using a reference voltage-to-displacement transducer based on quartz tuning forks

We use a piezoelectric quartz tuning fork to calibrate the displacement of ceramic piezoelectric scanners which are widely employed in scanning probe microscopy. We measure the static piezoelectric response of a quartz tuning fork and find it to be highly linear, non-hysteretic and with negligible creep. These performance characteristics, close to those of an ideal transducer, make quartz transducers superior to ceramic piezoelectric actuators. Furthermore, quartz actuators in the form of a tuning fork have the advantage of yielding static displacements comparable to those of local probe microscope scanners. We use the static displacement of a quartz tuning fork as a reference to calibrate the three axis displacement of a ceramic piezoelectric scanner. Although this calibration technique is a non-traceable method, it can be more versatile than using calibration grids because it enables to characterize the linear and non-linear response of a piezoelectric scanner in a broad range of displacements, spanning from a fraction of a nanometer to hundreds of nanometers. In addition, the creep and the speed dependent piezoelectric response of ceramic scanners can be studied in detail.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
