Interface dynamics in Hele-Shaw flows with centrifugal forces. Preventing cusp singularities with rotation
A class of exact solutions of Hele-Shaw flows without surface tension in a
rotating cell is reported. We show that the interplay between injection and
rotation modifies drastically the scenario of formation of finite-time cusp
singularities. For a subclass of solutions, we show that, for any given initial
condition, there exists a critical rotation rate above which cusp formation is
prevented. We also find an exact sufficient condition to avoid cusps
simultaneously for all initial conditions. This condition admits a simple
interpretation related to the linear stability problem.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Measurements of the vertical fluxes of atomic Fe and Na at the mesopause: implications for the velocity of cosmic dust entering the atmosphere
The downward fluxes of Fe and Na, measured near the mesopause with the University of Colorado lidars near Boulder, and a chemical ablation model developed at the University of Leeds, are used to constrain the velocity/mass distribution of the meteoroids entering the atmosphere and to derive an improved estimate for the global influx of cosmic dust. We find that the particles responsible for injecting a large fraction of the ablated material into the Earth's upper atmosphere enter at relatively slow speeds and originate primarily from the Jupiter Family of Comets. The global mean Na influx is 17,200 ± 2800 atoms/cm2/s, which equals 298 ± 47 kg/d for the global input of Na vapor and 150 ± 38 t/d for the global influx of cosmic dust. The global mean Fe influx is 102,000 ± 18,000 atoms/cm2/s, which equals 4.29 ± 0.75 t/d for the global input of Fe vapor

Recientemente,un nuevo polvo de neumático, denominado comercialmente “desvulcanizado” ha aparecido en el mercado.En este artículo se comparan materiales compuestosformulados con polvo de neumático desvulcanizado conlos obtenidos con el mismo material sin tratamiento enmatriz de polietileno de alta densidad. A compactness theorem for complete Ricci shrinkers
We prove precompactness in an orbifold Cheeger-Gromov sense of complete
gradient Ricci shrinkers with a lower bound on their entropy and a local
integral Riemann bound. We do not need any pointwise curvature assumptions,
volume or diameter bounds. In dimension four, under a technical assumption, we
can replace the local integral Riemann bound by an upper bound for the Euler

The intensification of metallic layered phenomena above thunderstorms through the modulation of atmospheric tides
We present a multi-instrument experiment to study the effects of tropospheric thunderstorms on the mesopause region and the lower ionosphere. Sodium (Na) lidar and ionospheric observations by two digital ionospheric sounders are used to study the variation in the neutral metal atoms and metallic ions above thunderstorms. An enhanced ionospheric sporadic E layer with a downward tidal phase is observed followed by a subsequent intensification of neutral Na number density with an increase of 600 cm−3 in the mesosphere. In addition, the Na neutral chemistry and ion-molecule chemistry are considered in a Na chemistry model to simulate the dynamical and chemical coupling processes in the mesosphere and ionosphere above thunderstorms. The enhanced Na layer in the simulation obtained by using the ionospheric observation as input is in agreement with the Na lidar observation. We find that the intensification of metallic layered phenomena above thunderstorms is associated with the atmospheric tides, as a result of the troposphere-mesosphere-ionosphere coupling
SPROUTY-2 represses the epithelial phenotype of colon carcinoma cells via upregulation of ZEB1 mediated by ETS1 and miR-200/miR-150
SPROUTY-2 (SPRY2) is a modulator of tyrosine kinase receptor signaling with
receptor- and cell type-dependent inhibitory or enhancing effects. Studies on the action
of SPRY2 in major cancers are conflicting and its role remains unclear. Here we have
dissected SPRY2 action in human colon cancer. Global transcriptomic analyses show
that SPRY2 downregulates genes encoding tight junction proteins such as claudin-7 and
occludin and other cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix adhesion molecules in human SW480-
ADH colon carcinoma cells. Moreover, SPRY2 represses LLGLL2/HUGL2,
PATJ1/INADL and ST14, main regulators of the polarized epithelial phenotype, and
ESRP1, an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) inhibitor. A key action of
SPRY2 is the upregulation of the major EMT inducer ZEB1, as these effects are
reversed by ZEB1 knock-down by means of RNA interference. Consistently, we found
an inverse correlation between the expression level of claudin-7 and those of SPRY2
and ZEB1 in human colon tumors. Mechanistically, ZEB1 upregulation by SPRY2
results from the combined induction of ETS1 transcription factor and the repression of
microRNAs (miR-200 family, miR-150) that target ZEB1 RNA. Moreover, SPRY2
increased AKT activation by epidermal growth factor (EGF) whereas AKT and also Src
inhibition reduced the induction of ZEB1. Altogether, these data suggest that AKT and
Src are implicated in SPRY2 action. Collectively, these results show a tumorigenic role
of SPRY2 in colon cancer that is based on the dysregulation of tight junction and
epithelial polarity master genes via upregulation of ZEB1. The dissection of the
mechanism of action of SPRY2 in colon cancer cells is important to understand the
upregulation of this gene in a subset of patients with this neoplasia that have poor

High rate, fast timing Glass RPC for the high {\eta} CMS muon detectors
The HL-LHC phase is designed to increase by an order of magnitude the amount
of data to be collected by the LHC experiments. To achieve this goal in a
reasonable time scale the instantaneous luminosity would also increase by an
order of magnitude up to . The region of the forward
muon spectrometer () is not equipped with RPC stations. The
increase of the expected particles rate up to (including a
safety factor 3) motivates the installation of RPC chambers to guarantee
redundancy with the CSC chambers already present. The actual RPC technology of
CMS cannot sustain the expected background level. The new technology that will
be chosen should have a high rate capability and provides a good spatial and
timing resolution. A new generation of Glass-RPC (GRPC) using low-resistivity
(LR) glass is proposed to equip at least the two most far away of the four high
muon stations of CMS. First the design of small size prototypes and
studies of their performance in high-rate particles flux is presented. Then the
proposed designs for large size chambers and their fast-timing electronic
