Le syntagme intonatif en langage spontané : étude préliminaire
Une étude portant sur le syntagme intonatif (SI) en langage spontané menée à partir d’un corpus de français du Québec révèle des valeurs relativement stables quant à la longueur de ces SI exprimée en termes d’unités prosodiques minimales. La variabilité rencontrée ne peut être exprimée à l’aide de paramètres sociaux.A study of intonational phrasing (IP) in a corpus of spontaneous speech of Quebec French reveals relatively stable values of length of IPs when expressed in terms of minimal prosodic units. Variability in IP length is not statistically related to the social characteristics of the speakers
Distribution of hammerhead and hammerhead-like RNA motifs through the GenBank
Hammerhead ribozymes previously were found in satellite RNAs from plant viroids and in repetitive DNA from certain species of newts and schistosomes. To determine if this catalytic RNA motif has a wider distribution, we decided to scrutinize the GenBank database for RNAs that contain hammerhead or hammerhead-like motifs. The search shows a widespread distribution of this kind of RNA motif in different sequences suggesting that they might have a more general role in RNA biology. The frequency of the hammerhead motif is half of that expected from a random distribution, but this fact comes From the low CpG representation in vertebrate sequences and the bias of the GenBank for those sequences. Intriguing motifs include those found in several families of repetitive sequences, in the satellite RNA from the carrot red leaf luteovirus, in plant viruses like the spinach latent virus and the elm mottle virus, in animal viruses like the hepatitis E virus and the caprine encephalitis virus, and in mRNAs such as those coding for cytochrome P450 oxidoreductase in the rat and the hamster

Nucleozymes containing ribonucleotides and deoxyribonucleotides or nucleic acid analogues are described herein. The nucleozymes have catalytic activity and are significantly more resistant to degradation than their all-RNA ribozyme counterparts. Also described are methods for preparing the nucleozymes along with methods of using nucleozymes, e.g., as therapeutic agents

An analysis of the protein content of several crystal forms of proteins has
been performed. We apply a new numerical technique, the Independent Component
Analysis (ICA), to determine the volume fraction of the asymmetric unit
occupied by the protein. This technique requires only the crystallographic data

Interplay between Static and Dynamic Properties of Semifluxons in YBa2Cu3O7−δ 0−π Josephson Junctions
We have investigated the static and dynamic properties of long YBa2Cu3O7-delta 0-pi Josephson junctions and compared them with those of conventional 0 junctions. Scanning SQUID microscope imaging has revealed the presence of a semifluxon at the phase discontinuity point in 0-pi Josephson junctions. Zero field steps have been detected in the current-voltage characteristics of all junctions. Comparison with simulation allows us to attribute these steps to fluxons traveling in the junction for conventional 0 junctions and to fluxon-semifluxon interactions in the case of 0-pi Josephson junctions
Probing the order parameter symmetry in the cuprate high temperature superconductors by SQUID microscopy
The orbital component of the order parameter in the cuprate high-Tc cuprate
superconductors is now well established, in large part because of phase
sensitive tests. Although it would be desirable to use such tests on other
unconventional superconductors, there are a number of favorable factors
associated with the properties of the cuprates, and a number of technical
advances, that were required for these tests to be successful. In this review I
will describe the development of phase sensitive pairing symmetry tests using
SQUID microscopy, underlining the factors favoring these experiments in the
