Transnational policing or transnational police? Belgian gendarmerie between 1918 and 1957
In the context of this contribution, I’ll clarify the situation of the Belgian gendarmerie within this transnational dynamic from the end of World War One to 1957, date of the fundamental law organizing the institution. I would like to investigate both the international influence between gendarmeries in relation with tasks, missions, organizations and the question of cooperation in terms of practices (policing against crime, in maintaining law and order): can we speak about a transnational police or only about a more limited transnational policing of gendarmeries
