Topography and self-gravitation interaction in elastic-gravitational modeling

Changes in gravity due to volcanic loading of the crust are influenced by topography. We investigate the relative importance of topography and self-gravitation in the interpretation of gravity changes. It is shown that modeling of gravity changes can be more precise with the introduction of topographic relief, although it is neglected self-gravitation of the medium. This paper exploits this result by suggesting a mathematical simplification that could be useful in the future development of a numerical technique to accurately include topographic effects in the modeling of deformation and gravity changes. Finally, we perform an inversion of the gravity changes observed at Mayon volcano (Philippines) between December 1992 and December 1996 including topographic effects by varying the depth of the source. Failure to account for topographic influences can bias estimates of source parameters particularly when the lateral extension of the relief is of the same order of magnitude as the source depth.Peer reviewe

Evolución de las complicaciones biliares tras el trasplante hepático

L'anastomosi biliar en el trasplantament hepàtic és una de les causes més freqüents de morbiditat. En aquest treball s'ha analitzat l'evolució de les complicacions biliars després d'un trasplantament hepàtic en adults al llarg de 20 anys, comparant els primers 100 trasplantaments realitzats amb els darrers 200 entre 1985 i 2007. Resultats: la incidència de les complicacions biliars ha disminuït significativament al llarg dels anys, principalment a causa de l'abandonament de l'ús rutinari del tub de Kehr. La gravetat d'aquestes complicacions ha estat similar en ambdós grups.La anastomosis biliar en el trasplante hepático es una de las causas más frecuentes de morbilidad. En este trabajo se ha analizado la evolución de las complicaciones biliares tras el trasplante hepático en adultos a lo largo de 20 años, comparando los primeros 100 trasplantes realizados con los últimos 200, entre 1985 y 2007. Resultados: la incidencia de las complicaciones biliares ha disminuido significativamente a lo largo de los años, principalmente debido al abandono del uso rutinario del tubo de Kehr. La gravedad de dichas complicaciones resultó ser similar en ambos grupos

Liver Transplantation for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. Do we need to move forward?

Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma; Liver transplantation; OutcomesColangiocarcinoma perihilar; Trasplantament hepàtic; ResultatsColangiocarcinoma perihiliar; Trasplante hepático; ResultadosPerihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) is a challenging disease with limited options. Surgical resection and adjuvant therapy remain the only established treatment for those with resectable disease. Since the publication of the Mayo protocol in 2000, neoadjuvant chemoradiation and liver transplantation have become the standard of care in selected patients with unresectable de novo pCCA or resectable pCCA arising under primary sclerosing cholangitis. However, its application is diverse worldwide, and the need for donor organs is one of the main limitations. Also, differences in the neoadjuvant regimen used were observed. In this review, we discuss the latest results of this approach, the recommended tools for diagnostic work-up, and advances in systemic therapy to improve patient selection and long-term survival

Atención a la demanda ciudadana

Se realizó en Alcaldía Iztapalapa, Dirección General de Obras y Desarrollo UrbanoMi servicio social, trato más sobre actividades relacionadas a lo que vendría siendo lo administrativo dentro de la rama de mi profesión que es arquitectura. En el aprendí a hacer generadores de obra, recabar información para hacer un balance de los materiales correspondiente anualmente, así mismo aprendí un poco más sobre la cuantificación de materiales, y también puse en practica todo sobre lo de diseño arquitectónico. También otras de las actividades que realice, fue la capturación de datos de la bitácora de las solicitudes que a diario se recibían por parte de la ciudadanía, y que posteriormente se tenían que atender con forme a la llegada de material. Sobre todo durante mi estancia en mi servicio, comprendí que la colaboración de cada una de las áreas, que se encontraban ahí para atender las solicitudes, las cuales era: bacheo, grietas, pintura, poda y jardinería y desazolve, tenían que estar muy organizados y sobre todo estar en constancia comunicación para llevar un control de entrada y salida de material, para que al momento de hacer ese balance de la llegada y salida de material, estuvieran equilibrados los volúmenes. Todo es un trabajo en equipo, para que las cosas puedan salir de la mejor manera

Effects of blast loading on buckling-restrained braces of a single- and two-bay chevron frame

The emerging use of buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs) as a seismic force-resisting system and the threat of blast can be catastrophic as the effects can lead to loss of life and failure of the building. Buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) have been researched and investigated under seismic activity. In this research, investigation on how a building with lateral framing system consisting of BRBFs behaves under the impact of blast loading. Particular focus was set on how the behavior of the frame was influenced as the concrete strength was increased in the concrete fill of the BRBs. A single- and two-bay analyses were performed. The study found that the BRBs would start bend as a result of the blast load. This bending would lead to failure in the BRBs as the braces would rupture. The concrete encasing would also become the weakest member as it would fail first due to crushing by the steel brace. The loaded column would fail near the support on the flange and web intersection. A two-bay BRBF schematic was deemed better at resisting the blast load when compared with the single-bay BRBF.California State University, Northridge.
