The development of the job satisfaction scale for hospital staff in Taiwan

    Get PDF
The current study attempts to construct a valid and applicable job satisfaction scale for measuring the contentment level of hospital staff in Taiwan. The job description inventory (JDI) and Job Satisfaction Index (JSI) were adopted as the foundation of the job satisfaction measure for hospital staff in a selected hospital. To verify and validate the scale, data collected in 2012 and 2013, were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), respectively. Subsequently, Pearson correlations analysis was used to examine the strength and direction of the relationships between job satisfaction dimensions. Overall, the job satisfaction scale developed in this research illustrated valid and accurate measure for assessing hospital staffs' satisfaction. Both EFA and CFA results demonstrated that items consistently emerged six dimensions i.e. work environment, work achievement, compensation and benefits, education and training, promotion and evaluation, and management system. The findings also highlight that management support, work achievement, and promotion and evaluation are three critical factors that significantly contribute to high levels of job satisfaction for hospital staff

Room temperature gas sensing with a hybrid poly-Si/ZnO TFT cell

In this work, we study the capability of a novel poly-Si/Zno hybrid TFT cell in sensing NO2 gas. Fabrication and structural features of this cell are identical to that reported in one of our previous works [1] except that the IGZO TFT is replaced by a ZnO one. The equivalent circuit of the hybrid cell is shown in Fig. 1, in which the poly-Si TFT and ZnO TFT are employed as the amplifier and sensor, respectively. In the configuration, the top gate of the poly-Si TFT is electrically connected to the drain of the bottom-gated ZnO TFT, while the top surface of the ZnO channel is exposed to the environment for sensing purposes. For the electrical measurements conducted at room temperature, the current source (IIN) was set at 100 pA with a compliance VG of 2 V. Concentration of the NO2 gas in the ambient was varied from 0 ~100 ppm. Transfer characteristics of the cell are expressed by showing the drain current of the poly-Si TFT as a function of the back-gate bias (VBG) of the ZnO TFT. In the figure, we can see the I-V curves show a parallel and positive shift as the concentration of the NO2 gas is increased. Meanwhile, the transitions in the figure are steep with a slope of around -60 mV/dec whose absolute value is much smaller than the subthreshold slopes of the individual ZnO TFT (\u3e300 mV/dec). The finding provides good evidence showing the potential of this scheme in promoting measurement sensitivity compared with conventional oxide-semiconductor TFTs. The experimental results also show that UV irradiation can recover the characteristics. Please click Download on the upper right corner to see the full abstract

The Immunomodulatory Effect of You-Gui-Wan on Dermatogoides-pteronyssinus-Induced Asthma

The traditional Chinese medicine You-Gui-Wan (YGW) contains ten species of medicinal plants and has been used to improve health in remissive states of asthma for hundreds of years in Asia. However, little is known about the immunomodulatory mechanisms in vivo. Therefore, this study investigated the pathologic and immunologic responses to YGW in mice that had been repeatedly exposed to Dermatogoides-pteronyssinus (Der p). YGW reduced Der-p-induced airway hyperresponsiveness and total IgE in serum. It also inhibited eosinophil infiltration by downregulating the protein expression of IL-5 in serum and changed the Th2-bios in BALF by upregulating IL-12. Results of the collagen assay and histopathologic examination showed that YGW reduced airway remodeling in the lung. In addition, after YGW treatment there was a relative decrease in mRNA expression of TGF-β1, IL-13, eotaxin, RANTES, and MCP-1 in lung in the YGW group. The results of EMSA and immunohistochemistry revealed that YGW inhibited NF-κB expression in epithelial lung cells. YGW exerts its regulative effects in chronic allergic asthmatic mice via its anti-inflammatory activity and by inhibiting the progression of airway remodeling

High-efficiency bidirectional resonant WPT system for electric vehicles

The wireless power transfer (WPT) system has become popular given its safety and flexibility in electric vehicle (EVs) charging applications. Due to the increasing number of EVs, vehicle to grid (V2G) can be implemented in the future in which a bidirectional WPT is one of the key features. A high-efficiency bidirectional resonant WPT system is studied and implemented in this study. Besides bidirectional capability, single stage and regulated output voltage are other features of this work. It is done by using the variable frequency control without sacrificing efficiency and conforming to the typical frequency range of the WPT system for EVs application. The analysis of the series-series compensated WPT is presented, followed by the design consideration of the developed bidirectional WPT system. At last, the implementation and experimental results for a 3 kW laboratory prototype are also presented to show the validity and the feasibility of the proposed scheme. A 96.8% efficiency at a 210-mm gap and a 95% efficiency at a 250-mm gap can be achieved under a rated power condition

The Effect of Serine Protease Inhibitors on Airway Inflammation in a Chronic Allergen-Induced Asthma Mouse Model

Serine protease inhibitors reportedly attenuated airway inflammation and had antioxidant in multiorgan. However, the effects of the serine protease inhibitors nafamostat mesilate (FUT), gabexate mesilate (FOY), and ulinastatin (UTI) on a long-term challenged mouse model of chronic asthma are unclear. BALB/c mice (6 mice/group) were intratracheally inoculated with five doses of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p; 50 μL, 1 mg/mL) at one-week intervals. Therapeutic doses of FUT (0.0625 mg/kg), FOY (20 mg/kg), or UTI (10,000 U/kg) were, respectively, injected intraperitoneally into these mice. Control mice received sterile PBS. At 3 days after the last challenge, mice were sacrificed to assess airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), remodeling, and inflammation; lung histological features; and cytokine expression profiles. Compared with untreated controls, mice treated with FUT, FOY, and UTI had decreased AHR and goblet cell hyperplasia, decreased eosinophil and neutrophil infiltration, decreased Der p-induced IL-4 levels in serum and IL-5, IL-6, IL-13, and IL-17 levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and inhibited nuclear factor (NF)-κB activity in lung tissues. The serine protease inhibitors FUT, FOY, and UTI have potential therapeutic benefits for treating asthma by downregulating Th2 cytokines and Th17 cell function and inhibiting NF-κB activation in lung tissue

ReXTime: A Benchmark Suite for Reasoning-Across-Time in Videos

We introduce ReXTime, a benchmark designed to rigorously test AI models' ability to perform temporal reasoning within video events. Specifically, ReXTime focuses on reasoning across time, i.e. human-like understanding when the question and its corresponding answer occur in different video segments. This form of reasoning, requiring advanced understanding of cause-and-effect relationships across video segments, poses significant challenges to even the frontier multimodal large language models. To facilitate this evaluation, we develop an automated pipeline for generating temporal reasoning question-answer pairs, significantly reducing the need for labor-intensive manual annotations. Our benchmark includes 921 carefully vetted validation samples and 2,143 test samples, each manually curated for accuracy and relevance. Evaluation results show that while frontier large language models outperform academic models, they still lag behind human performance by a significant 14.3% accuracy gap. Additionally, our pipeline creates a training dataset of 9,695 machine generated samples without manual effort, which empirical studies suggest can enhance the across-time reasoning via fine-tuning.Comment: Project page: https://rextime.github.io
