Measuring dark energy with the Eiso–Ep correlation of gamma-ray bursts using model-independent methods
We use two model-independent methods to standardize long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) using the Eiso − Ep correlation (log Eiso = a + blog Ep), where Eiso is the isotropic-equivalent gamma-ray energy and Ep is the spectral peak energy. We update 42 long GRBs and attempt to constrain the cosmological parameters. The full sample contains 151 long GRBs with redshifts from 0.0331 to 8.2. The first method is the simultaneous fitting method. We take the extrinsic scatter σext into account and assign it to the parameter Eiso. The best-fitting values are a = 49.15 ± 0.26, b = 1.42 ± 0.11, σext = 0.34 ± 0.03 and Ωm = 0.79 in the flat ΛCDM model. The constraint on Ωm is 0.55 < Ωm< 1 at the 1σ confidence level. If reduced χ2 method is used, the best-fit results are a = 48.96 ± 0.18, b = 1.52 ± 0.08, and Ωm = 0.50 ± 0.12. The second method uses type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) to calibrate the Eiso − Ep correlation. We calibrate 90 high-redshift GRBs in the redshift range from 1.44 to 8.1. The cosmological constraints from these 90 GRBs are Ωm = 0.23+0.06-0.04 for flat ΛCDM and Ωm = 0.18 ± 0.11 and ΩΛ = 0.46 ± 0.51 for non-flat ΛCDM. For the combination of GRB and SNe Ia sample, we obtain Ωm = 0.271 ± 0.019 and h = 0.701 ± 0.002 for the flat ΛCDM and the non-flat ΛCDM, and the results are Ωm = 0.225 ± 0.044, ΩΛ = 0.640 ± 0.082, and h = 0.698 ± 0.004. These results from calibrated GRBs are consistent with that of SNe Ia. Meanwhile, the combined data can improve cosmological constraints significantly, compared to SNe Ia alone. Magnetars and pulsars: a missing link
There is growing evidence that soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) and anomalous
X-ray pulsars (AXPs) are isolated neutron stars with superstrong magnetic
fields, i.e., magnetars, marking them a distinguished species from the
conventional species of spindown-powered isolated neutron stars, i.e., radio
pulsars. The current arguments in favor of the magnetar interpretation of
SGR/AXP phenomenology will be outlined, and the two energy sources in
magnetars, i.e. a magnetic dissipation energy and a spindown energy, will be
reviewed. I will then discuss a missing link between magnetars and pulsars,
i.e., lack of the observational evidence of the spindown-powered behaviors in
known magnetars. Some recent theoretical efforts in studying such behaviors

In vivo manganese-enhanced MRI and diffusion tensor imaging of developing and impaired visual brains
This study explored the feasibility of high-resolution Mn-enhanced MRI (MEMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for in vivo assessments of the development and reorganization of retinal and visual callosal pathways in normal neonatal rodent brains and after early postnatal visual impairments. Using MEMRI, intravitreal Mn 2+ injection into one eye resulted in maximal T1-weighted hyperintensity in neonatal contralateral superior colliculus (SC) 8 hours after administration, whereas in adult contralateral SC signal increase continued at 1 day post-injection. Notably, mild but significant Mn 2+ enhancement was observed in the ipsilateral SC in normal neonatal rats, and in adult rats after neonatal monocular enucleation (ME) but not in normal adult rats. Upon intracortical Mn 2+ injection to the visual cortex, neonatal binocularly-enucleated (BE) rats showed an enhancement of a larger projection area, via the splenium of corpus callosum to the V1/V2 transition zone of the contralateral hemisphere in comparison to normal rats. For DTI, the retinal pathways projected from the enucleated eyes possessed lower fractional anisotropy (FA) 6 weeks after BE and ME. Interestingly, in the optic nerve projected from the remaining eye in ME rats a significantly higher FA was observed compared to normal rats. Probing CP Violation with and without Momentum Reconstruction at the LHC
We study the potential to observe CP-violating effects in SUSY cascade decay
chains at the LHC. We consider squark and gluino production followed by
subsequent decays into neutralinos with a three-body leptonic decay in the
final step. Asymmetries composed by triple products of momenta of the final
state particles are sensitive to CP-violating effects. Due to large boosts
these asymmetries can be difficult to observe at a hadron collider. We show
that using all available kinematic information one can reconstruct the decay
chains on an event-by-event basis even in the case of 3-body decays, neutrinos
and LSPs in the final state. We also discuss the most important experimental
effects like major backgrounds and momentum smearing due to finite detector
resolution. We show that with 300 fb of collected data, CP violation may
be discovered at the LHC for a wide range of the phase of the bino mass

Expression and activities of three inducible enzymes in the healing of gastric ulcers in rats
Aim: To explore the roles of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), heme oxygenase (HO) and cyclooxygenase (COX) in gastric ulceration and to investigate the relationships of the expression and activities of these enzymes at different stages of gastric ulceration. Methods: Gastric ulcers (kissing ulcers) were induced by luminal application of acetic acid. Gastric tissue samples were obtained from the ulcer base, ulcer margin, and non-ulcerated area around the ulcer margin at different time intervals after ulcer induction. The mRNA expression and protein levels of inducible and constitutive isoforms of NOS, HO and COX were analyzed with RT-PCR and Western blotting methods. The activities of the total NOS, inducible NOS (iNOS), HO, and COX were also determined. Results: Differential expression of inducible iNOS, HO-1 and COX-2 and enzyme activities of NOS, HO and COX were found in the gastric ulcer base. High iNOS expression and activity were observed on day 1 to day 3 in severely inflamed ulcer tissues. Maximum expressions of HO-1 and COX-2 and enzyme activities of HO and COX lagged behind that of iNOS, and remained at high levels during the healing phase. Conclusion: The expression and activities of inducible NOS, HO-1 and COX-2 are found to be correlated to different stages of gastric ulceration. Inducible NOS may contribute to ulcer formation while HO-1 and COX-2 may promote ulcer healing.published_or_final_versio
The Regge Limit for Green Functions in Conformal Field Theory
We define a Regge limit for off-shell Green functions in quantum field
theory, and study it in the particular case of conformal field theories (CFT).
Our limit differs from that defined in arXiv:0801.3002, the latter being only a
particular corner of the Regge regime. By studying the limit for free CFTs, we
are able to reproduce the Low-Nussinov, BFKL approach to the pomeron at weak
coupling. The dominance of Feynman graphs where only two high momentum lines
are exchanged in the t-channel, follows simply from the free field analysis. We
can then define the BFKL kernel in terms of the two point function of a simple
light-like bilocal operator. We also include a brief discussion of the gravity
