    X-ray and neutron diffraction studies of coupled structural phase transitions in DyBaCo2_{2}O5.5_{5.5}

    Full text link
    A structural transition at T322T\approx 322 K from the PmmmPmmm to PmmaPmma phase is found to coincide with an anomaly of resistivity. Another structural phase transition doubling the lattice parameter cc, which has been postulated earlier to accompany a low-temperature magnetic transition in TbBaCo2_{2}O5.5_{5.5}, is observed in a single crystal DbBaCo2_{2}O5.5_{5.5} by means of the X-ray and neutron diffraction. The low temperature phase does not belong to the space group PccaPcca that has been chosen earlier as the highest subgroup of the PmmaPmma. The transition is of the first order with the temperature hysteresis, between T100T\approx 100 and T200T\approx 200 K, which probably explains anomalous magnetic properties in this temperature range.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    The article concerns somatic and reproductive health issues (menstrual cycle and functioning of mammary glands). The data has been received from of the total examination and questionnaires of female adolescents. The study has revealed 96% of orthopedic disorders and 72% of endocrine disorders. The investigation has found out that 97% of girls have had menstrual disorders. Dysmenorrhea has been observed in 84% of patients. The study demonstrated that 57% of girls had the cyclic (premenstrual) and 20% girls had the persistent mastalgia. The dysplasia of mammary glands was diagnosed in 92% of patients. The hypodynamia, smoking and pessimism are more typical for female adolescent

    The purpose: The study was performed to estimate the valeologic knowledge in adolescent girls. Material and methods: The study included 169 girls (aged 12-18). The anonymous questioning, the lessons on a healthy life style and sexual education were conducted. Results: The investigation showed that girls have had low level of the healthy life style and sexual education. More than half of girls in this study had no accurate understanding about the menstruation, normal sexual development. After the healthy life style lessons among the girls the level of valeologic knowledge was increased in 1.5-5 times. Conclusion: The awareness among girls on issues related to sexual and reproductive health through valeologic and sex education may be developed by means of school programs

    X-ray Diffraction Study of Superstructure in GdBaCo2O5.5

    Full text link
    A single crystal of GdBaCo2O5.47(2) has been studied by means of X-ray diffraction. Appearance of superstructure reflections at T = 341.5(7) K gives an evidence of continuous transition to the phase with unit cell doubled along the shortest edge a1. Critical exponent for the order parameter is found to be beta=0.33(1). The superstructure reflections are about 2-4 orders of magnitude weaker than the basic ones. Their systematic extinction indicates the crystal symmetry change from Pmmm to Pmma. The integrated intensities allow to calculate displacements of atoms from the positions in the high-temperature phase. The cobalt-ligand distances in the ordered phase are discussed in terms of the spin-state/orbital ordering of Co3+ ions.Comment: 4 page
