Topological surface electronic states in candidate nodal-line semimetal CaAgAs
We investigate systematically the bulk and surface electronic structure of
the candidate nodal-line semimetal CaAgAs by angle resolved photoemission
spectroscopy and density functional calculations. We observed a metallic,
linear, non--dispersive surface band that coincides with the
high-binding-energy part of the theoretical topological surface state, proving
the topological nontriviality of the system. An overall downshift of the
experimental Fermi level points to a rigid-band-like -doping of the samples,
due possibly to Ag vacancies in the as-grown crystals.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
A way to measure the water quality of the LHAASO-WCDA with cosmic muon signals
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) is to be built at
Daocheng, Sichuan Province, China. As one of the major components of the LHAASO
project, a Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA), with an area of 78,000~, contains 350,000~tons of purified water. The water transparency and its
stability are critical for successful long-term operation of this project. To
gain full knowledge of the water Cherenkov technique and investigate the
engineering issues, a 9-cell detector array has been built at the Yangbajing
site, Tibet, China. With the help of the distribution of single cosmic muon
signals, the monitoring and measurement of water transparency are studied. The
results show that a precision of several percent can be obtained for the
attenuation length measurement, which satisfies the requirements of the
experiment. In the near future, this method could be applied to the LHAASO-WCDA
project
Single nonmagnetic impurity resonance in FeSe-based 122-type superconductors as a probe for pairing symmetry
We study the effect of a single non-magnetic impurity in
AFeSe (A=K, Rb, or Cs) superconductors by considering
various pairing states based on a three-orbital model consistent with the
photoemission experiments. The local density of states on and near the impurity
site has been calculated by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations
self-consistently. The impurity-induced in-gap bound states are found only for
attractive impurity scattering potential, as in the cases of doping of Co or
Ni, which is characterized by the strong particle-hole asymmetry, in the
nodeless wave pairing state. This property may be used to probe
the pairing symmetry of FeSe-based 122-type superconductors.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Duration of untreated bipolar disorder: A multicenter study
Little is known about the demographic and clinical differences between short and long duration of untreated bipolar disorder (DUB) in Chinese patients. This study examined the demographic and clinical features of short (≤2 years) and long DUB (\u3e2 years) in China. A consecutively recruited sample of 555 patients with bipolar disorder (BD) was examined in 7 psychiatric hospitals and general hospital psychiatric units across China. Patients’ demographic and clinical characteristics were collected using a standardized protocol and data collection procedure. The mean DUB was 3.2 ± 6.0 years; long DUB accounted for 31.0% of the sample. Multivariate analyses revealed that longer duration of illness, diagnosis of BD type II, and earlier misdiagnosis of BD for major depressive disorder or schizophrenia were independently associated with long DUB. The mean DUB in Chinese BD patients was shorter than the reported figures from Western countries. The long-term impact of DUB on the outcome of BD is warranted
Identification of susceptibility genes in non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate using whole-exome sequencing
Background: Non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) is among the most common congenital malformations. The etiology of NSCL/P remains poorly characterized owing to its complex genetic heterogeneity. The objective of this study was to identify genetic variants that increase susceptibility to NSCL/P.
Material and Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed in 8 fetuses with NSCL/P in China.
Bioinformatics analysis was performed using commercially available software. Variants detected by WES were
validated by Sanger sequencing.
Results: By filtering out synonymous variants in exons, we identified average 8575 nonsynonymous single nucleotide variants (SNVs). We subsequently compared the SNVs against public databases including NCBI dbSNP
build 135 and 1000 Genomes Project and obtained an average of 203 SNVs. Total 12 reported candidate genes
were verified by Sanger sequencing. Sanger sequencing also confirmed 16 novel SNVs shared by two or more
samples.
Conclusions: We have found and confirmed 16 susceptibility genes responsible for NSCL/P, which may play important role in the etiology of NSCL/P. The susceptibility genes identified in this study will not only be useful in
revealing the etiology of NSCL/P but also in diagnosis and treatment of the patients with NSCL/P
Non-Markovian Entanglement Sudden Death and Rebirth of a Two-Qubit System in the Presence of System-Bath Coherence
We present a detailed study of the entanglement dynamics of a two-qubit
system coupled to independent non-Markovian environments, employing hierarchy
equations. This recently developed theoretical treatment can conveniently solve
non-Markovian problems and take into consideration the correlation between the
system and bath in an initial state. We concentrate on calculating the death
and rebirth time points of the entanglement to obtain a general view of the
concurrence curve and explore the behavior of entanglement dynamics with
respect to the coupling strength, the characteristic frequency of the noise
