State of the Art of Sports Data Visualization
In this report, we organize and reflect on recent advances and challenges in the field of sports data visualization. The exponentially-growing body of visualization research based on sports data is a prime indication of the importance and timeliness of this report. Sports data visualization research encompasses the breadth of visualization tasks and goals: exploring the design of new visualization techniques; adapting existing visualizations to a novel domain; and conducting design studies and evaluations in close collaboration with experts, including practitioners, enthusiasts, and journalists. Frequently this research has impact beyond sports in both academia and in industry because it is i) grounded in realistic, highly heterogeneous data, ii) applied to real-world problems, and iii) designed in close collaboration with domain experts. In this report, we analyze current research contributions through the lens of three categories of sports data: box score data (data containing statistical summaries of a sport event such as a game), tracking data (data about in-game actions and trajectories), and meta-data (data about the sport and its participants but not necessarily a given game). We conclude this report with a high-level discussion of sports visualization research informed by our analysis—identifying critical research gaps and valuable opportunities for the visualization community. The Development and Validation of a Generic Instrument, QoDoS, for Assessing the Quality of Decision Making.
Introduction: The impact of decision-making during the development and the regulatory review of medicines greatly influences the delivery of new medicinal products. Currently, there is no generic instrument that can be used to assess the quality of decision-making. This study describes the development of the Quality of Decision-Making Orientation Scheme QoDoS© instrument for appraising the quality of decision-making. Methods: Semi-structured interviews about decision-making were carried out with 29 senior decision makers from the pharmaceutical industry (10), regulatory authorities (9) and contract research organizations (10). The interviews offered a qualified understanding of the subjective decision-making approach, influences, behaviors and other factors that impact such processes for individuals and organizations involved in the delivery of new medicines. Thematic analysis of the transcribed interviews was carried out using NVivo8® software. Content validity was carried out using qualitative and quantitative data by an expert panel, which led to the developmental version of the QoDoS. Further psychometric evaluations were performed, including factor analysis, item reduction, reliability testing and construct validation. Results: The thematic analysis of the interviews yielded a 94-item initial version of the QoDoS© with a 5-point Likert scale. The instrument was tested for content validity using a panel of experts for language clarity, completeness, relevance and scaling, resulting in a favorable agreement by panel members with an intra-class correlation coefficient value of 0.89 (95% confidence interval = 0.56, 0.99). A 76-item QoDoS© (version 2) emerged from content validation. Factor analysis produced a 47-item measure with four domains. The 47-item QoDoS© (version 3) showed high internal consistency (n=120, Cronbach’s alpha = 0.89), high reproducibility (n=20, intra-class correlation =0.77) and a mean completion time of 10 min. Thromboembolism in the Sub-Acute Phase of Spinal Cord Injury: A Systematic Review of the Literature.
To review the evidence of thromboembolism incidence and prophylaxis in the sub-acute phase of spinal cord injury (SCI) 3-6 months post injury. All observational and experimental studies with any length of follow-up and no limitations on language or publication status published up to March 2015 were included. Two review authors independently selected trials for inclusion and extracted data. Outcomes studied were incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the sub-acute phase of SCI. The secondary outcome was type of thromboprophylaxis. Our search identified 4305 references and seven articles that met the inclusion criteria. Five papers reported PE events and three papers reported DVT events in the sub-acute phase of SCI. Studies were heterogeneous in populations, design and outcome reporting, therefore a meta-analysis was not performed. The included studies report a PE incidence of 0.5%-6.0% and DVT incidence of 2.0%-8.0% in the sub-acute phase of SCI. Thromboprophylaxis was poorly reported. Spinal patients continue to have a significant risk of PE and DVT after the acute period of their injury. Clinicians are advised to have a low threshold for suspecting venous thromboembolism in the sub-acute phase of SCI and to continue prophylactic anticoagulation therapy for a longer period of time
CCAT-prime: Science with an Ultra-widefield Submillimeter Observatory at Cerro Chajnantor
We present the detailed science case, and brief descriptions of the telescope
design, site, and first light instrument plans for a new ultra-wide field
submillimeter observatory, CCAT-prime, that we are constructing at a 5600 m
elevation site on Cerro Chajnantor in northern Chile. Our science goals are to
study star and galaxy formation from the epoch of reionization to the present,
investigate the growth of structure in the Universe, improve the precision of
B-mode CMB measurements, and investigate the interstellar medium and star
formation in the Galaxy and nearby galaxies through spectroscopic,
polarimetric, and broadband surveys at wavelengths from 200 um to 2 mm. These
goals are realized with our two first light instruments, a large field-of-view
(FoV) bolometer-based imager called Prime-Cam (that has both camera and an
imaging spectrometer modules), and a multi-beam submillimeter heterodyne
spectrometer, CHAI. CCAT-prime will have very high surface accuracy and very
low system emissivity, so that combined with its wide FoV at the unsurpassed
CCAT site our telescope/instrumentation combination is ideally suited to pursue
this science. The CCAT-prime telescope is being designed and built by Vertex

Cross-correlating Carbon Monoxide Line-intensity Maps with Spectroscopic and Photometric Galaxy Surveys
Line-intensity mapping (LIM or IM) is an emerging field of observational
work, with strong potential to fit into a larger effort to probe large-scale
structure and small-scale astrophysical phenomena using multiple complementary
tracers. Taking full advantage of such complementarity means, in part,
undertaking line-intensity surveys with galaxy surveys in mind. We consider the
potential for detection of a cross-correlation signal between COMAP and blind
surveys based on photometric redshifts (as in COSMOS) or based on spectroscopic
data (as with the HETDEX survey of Lyman- emitters). We find that
obtaining accuracy in redshifts and
sources per Mpc with spectroscopic redshift determination
should enable a CO-galaxy cross spectrum detection significance at least twice
that of the CO auto spectrum. Either a future targeted spectroscopic survey or

Friedmann Equation and Stability of Inflationary Higher Derivative Gravity
Stability analysis on the De Sitter universe in pure gravity theory is known
to be useful in many aspects. We first show how to complete the proof of an
earlier argument based on a redundant field equation. It is shown further that
the stability condition applies to Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spaces
based on the non-redundant Friedmann equation derived from a simple effective
Lagrangian. We show how to derive this expression for the Friedmann equation of
pure gravity theory. This expression is also generalized to include scalar

Magic in the machine: a computational magician's assistant
A human magician blends science, psychology and performance to create a magical effect. In this paper we explore what can be achieved when that human intelligence is replaced or assisted by machine intelligence. Magical effects are all in some form based on hidden mathematical, scientific or psychological principles; often the parameters controlling these underpinning techniques are hard for a magician to blend to maximise the magical effect required. The complexity is often caused by interacting and often conflicting physical and psychological constraints that need to be optimally balanced. Normally this tuning is done by trial and error, combined with human intuitions. Here we focus on applying Artificial Intelligence methods to the creation and optimisation of magic tricks exploiting mathematical principles. We use experimentally derived data about particular perceptual and cognitive features, combined with a model of the underlying mathematical process to provide a psychologically valid metric to allow optimisation of magical impact. In the paper we introduce our optimisation methodology and describe how it can be flexibly applied to a range of different types of mathematics based tricks. We also provide two case studies as exemplars of the methodology at work: a magical jigsaw, and a mind reading card trick effect. We evaluate each trick created through testing in laboratory and public performances, and further demonstrate the real world efficacy of our approach for professional performers through sales of the tricks in a reputable magic shop in London
Higher Twist Distribution Amplitudes of the Nucleon in QCD
We present the first systematic study of higher-twist light-cone distribution
amplitudes of the nucleon in QCD. We find that the valence three-quark state is
described at small transverse separations by eight independent distribution
amplitudes. One of them is leading twist-3, three distributions are twist-4 and
twist-5, respectively, and one is twist-6. A complete set of distribution
amplitudes is constructed, which satisfies equations of motion and constraints
that follow from conformal expansion. Nonperturbative input parameters are

Promoting resilience in occupational therapy rducation, a scoping literature review
Psychological and emotional resilience are important Occupational Therapy (OT) graduate skills. Occupational Therapists often embark on varied careers in highly demanding and challenging work environments. Theoretically, teaching and learning resilience during training affords protective advantages including safeguarding effects, which promote wellness and a sense of “I can do this, I will survive”. However, OT educators face significant challenges knowing how best to promote resilience through self-directed learning (SDL) approaches. In the UK, there is a strong focal shift towards producing resilient, autonomous life-long learners.
