From technical point of view the packaging function are 1) to keep the product in a good condition during distribution and storage, 2) to protect the product from the mechanical destruction, 3) to protect the product from contamination, oxidation macro/micro organism, light, and humidity, 4) to keep the environment so that product can be stored much longer. Whereas from comercial view point the packaging function are ; 1) to make the product more attractive, 2) to mini mize the possibility of lossing, and 3) to give information of the product· such as specification, price, and weight. There are many packaging material can be used for industrial crops. It is caused by wide variety of the crops and also theform and material of packaging must fulfill a certain requirement
Boer Spermatozoa Quality in Different Incubation Periods and Medium for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Preparation
Abstract
One of the developments in biotechnology is in vitro fertilization (IVF) requires a preparation process, one of it is spermatozoa. Preparation of spermatozoa is a stage of purification and separation as well as to eliminate bacteria and clear the unwanted residues. In preparation usually use a special medium to maintain the quality, as energy sources, and others. This research aims to determine the effect of incubation time on the quality of spermatozoa of Boer goats in two different types of medium, Tissue Culture Medium (TCM) -199 and Phosphate Buffer Saline (PBS). This research used 13 frozen semen obtained from Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan (BBIB) Singosari then analysed the standart quality of post-thawing spermatozoa for next stages treatment. Post-thawing semen then prepared and tested in two types of media, there are TCM-199 and PBS. In each media, Semen was incubated at 38°C CO2 5% for 30 (P1), 45 (P2), and 60 (P3) minutes. The results of the study then observed sperm quality, like; motility, viability, abnormality, and concentration, in addition to quality, the effect of incubation time was analyzed using Randomized Block Design (RBD) and continued with further testing of the Least Significance Different (LSD). The results showed the average sperm motility for TCM-199 medium P1, P2, and P3 respectively; 28% ± 10.95, 34% ± 8.94, and 26% ± 5.48, while for PBS P1, P2, and P3 medium respectively; 58% ± 4.47, 56% ± 8.94, and 46% ± 8.94. The conclusion of this study is that PBS medium is better for maintaining sperm quality while incubation, especially in the 30 minute compared to TCM-199 medium.</jats:p
The productivity of kacang goat pre-weaning period in low-land and high-land in West Timor, Timor Island Indonesia
Abstract
This experiment aimed to determine and analyze the productivity of pre-weaning Kacang goats in the lowlands and highlands area of West Timor province, Indonesia. The results of this study were expected to be used as a reference for maintaining Kacang goats in Indonesia. This research was conducted in West Timor province, Timor Island. The material used in this study was 245 Kacang goats consisting of 96 does, and 149 kids. The research method used was the survey. The result showed that the average of litter size to Kacang goats in the lowlands were 1.6 + 0.63 heads and highlands 1.5 + 0.55. The average male birth weight in the lowlands was 1.7 + 0.32 kg, females 1.55 + 0.22 kg, while in the highlands, males were 1.62 + 0.15 kg, females 1.47 + 0.18 kg. The average weaning weight of males was 9.21 + 0.59 kg, females 8.65 + 0.65 kg in the lowlands and in the highlands, males 8.62 + 0.46 kg and females 8.27 + 0, 38 kg. From the results, it can be concluded that Kacang goats were considered more suitable to be maintained in the lowlands, however, even in the highlands it is also still considered good.</jats:p
