Entanglement dynamics in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model
The dynamics of the one-tangle and the concurrence is analyzed in the
Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model which describes many physical systems such as the
two-mode Bose-Einstein condensates. We consider two different initial states
which are physically relevant and show that their entanglement dynamics are
very different. A semiclassical analysis is used to compute the one-tangle
which measures the entanglement of one spin with all the others, whereas the
frozen-spin approximation allows us to compute the concurrence using its

Sustainable deathstyles? The geography of green burials in Britain
In the context of a wider literature on ‘deathscapes’, we map the emergence of a new mode of burial and remembrance in Britain. Since a ‘green’ burial ground was established in Carlisle in 1993, sites for so-called ‘green, ‘natural’ or ‘woodland’ funerals have proliferated. There are now over 270 such sites in Britain. Drawing on a postal and email survey sent to all managers/owners and visits to 15 green burial grounds (enabling observations and semi-structured interviews with their managers), we chart their growth, establishment and regulation and describe the landscapes associated with them. This requires, and leads to, wider reflections on nature, capital, consumption, culture and the body

studies are conducted to investigate the effect, on drop deformation, of the channel’s
convergence ratio, the drop-fluid viscosity ratio, the interfacial tension and the initial
relative position of the drops
Admixture in the Hispanics of the San Luis Valley, Colorado, and its implications for complex trait gene mapping.
Hispanic populations are a valuable resource that can and should facilitate the identification of complex trait genes by means of admixture mapping (AM). In this paper we focus on a particular Hispanic population living in the San Luis Valley (SLV) in Southern Colorado. We used a set of 22 Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) to describe the admixture process and dynamics in this population. AIMs are defined as genetic markers that exhibit allele frequency differences between parental populations >or=30%, and are more informative for studying admixed populations than random markers. The ancestral proportions of the SLV Hispanic population are estimated as 62.7 +/- 2.1% European, 34.1 +/- 1.9% Native American and 3.2 +/- 1.5% West African. We also estimated the ancestral proportions of individuals using these AIMs. Population structure was demonstrated by the excess association of unlinked markers, the correlation between estimates of admixture based on unlinked marker sets, and by a highly significant correlation between individual Native American ancestry and skin pigmentation (R2= 0.082, p < 0.001). We discuss the implications of these findings in disease gene mapping efforts
Recall and recognition of dreams and waking events: A diary paradigm
Summary: Dream recall is often considered to be poor, although it is rarely systematically compared to the retrieval of waking event memories. A diary paradigm was implemented to explore the memory profile of recalled dreams over time, in comparison to recalled waking experiences. Twenty-five participants completed a dream and waking-event diary over two weeks. Titles of reports were re-presented in a surprise recall task. Subsequently, extracts of the reports were represented for recognition. No significant differences were found between dream and waking event memories in terms of either recall or recognition although some differences were found in terms of recollective experience, with waking-events being "remembered"as episodic memories more than dreams. Diary dream memories that are recalled, reported and to some extent rehearsed are therefore accessible and detailed in a similar manner to waking experiences, providing that they are adequately encoded close to their time of occurrence. The continuity of retrieval processes over sleep and wake is outlined
Novel Properties of Frustrated Low Dimensional Magnets with Pentagonal Symmetry
In the context of magnetism, frustration arises when a group of spins cannot
find a configuration that minimizes all of their pairwise interactions
simultaneously. We consider the effects of the geometric frustration that
arises in a structure having pentagonal loops. Such five-fold loops can be
expected to occur naturally in quasicrystals, as seen for example in a number
of experimental studies of surfaces of icosahedral alloys. Our model considers
classical vector spins placed on vertices of a subtiling of the two dimensional
Penrose tiling, and interacting with nearest neighbors via antiferromagnetic
bonds. We give a set of recursion relations for this system, which consists of
an infinite set of embedded clusters with sizes that increase as a power of the
golden mean. The magnetic ground states of this fractal system are studied
