Participation of an electric vehicle fleet to primary frequency control in France

International audienceUsing electric vehicles (EV) as distributed storage units could be a solution to take advantage of the good availability of EVs and reduce their total cost of ownership. The scientific literature features frequency control as one of the most profitable electric market for EV fleets. This paper presents an economic evaluation of the expected remuneration for a fleet of EVs participating to primary frequency control in France in 2020. First, the modelling of a French EV fleet is addressed. Simulations of the participation of this fleet to the French primary frequency control market are then performed. Two regulation strategies are considered: in the first one, only unidirectional power exchanges are allowed between EVs and the grid, while in the second one bidirectional exchanges are allowed. Results show that the expected remuneration is highly dependent on the ability to charge at work, the power level of the charging stations, and the bidirectional capabilities of the cars. Participation d'une flotte de véhicules électriques au réglage primaire de fréquence

Tirer profit de la disponibilité des véhicules électriques (VE) et les utiliser comme moyen de stockage diffus pour le réseau électrique est une solution pour diminuer le coût de cycle de vie élevé de ces derniers. La littérature présente le réglage de fréquence comme la solution la plus profitable pour les véhicules électriques. Ce papier propose une évaluation des gains économiques potentiels pour une flotte de véhicules électriques participant au réglage primaire, dans le cas Français. Dans un premier temps, le comportement d'une flotte de VE est modélisé. La participation de cette flotte au réglage primaire de fréquence est ensuite simulée. Deux stratégies de réglage, une avec échanges de puissance bidirectionnels entre les véhicules et le réseau, et une avec échanges unidirectionnels, sont comparées. Les résultats fournissent des indications sur la taille idéale de la flotte, et sur la caractérisation des échanges de puissance avec le réseau

Cognition, affection and interpersonal relationship of women with bipolar disorder

The bipolar affective disorder induces incapacitation and social isolation, and might lead to suicide. It was a clinical study of multiple cases using the following instruments: Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Suicide Inventory (BSI), Hamilton Scale of Depression (HAM-D) and the Rorschach, by Exner's Comprehensive System (CS). The objective was to analyze the affective, cognitive and interpersonal aspects of the patients. Four female out-patients who were previously diagnosed as bipolar depressive, by the Psychiatry Interview according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (SCIDI/CV-DSM-IV) criteria were studied. Results had indicated undervalued feelings about themselves, euphoric contents and lack of insight about the self-tolerance related to stress controls. Emotional and cognitive aspects have influenced the interpersonal context leading to increased suffering. Other qualitative and clinic data have been observed and commented.O transtorno afetivo bipolar causa incapacitação e isolamento social, podendo levar ao suicídio. Tratou-se de estudo clínico de casos múltipos com uso de: Inventário de Depressão (BDI) e Suicídio (BSI) de Beck, Escala de Depressão de Hamilton (HAM-D) e Rorschach, Sistema Compreensivo. O objetivo foi analisar os aspectos afetivos, cognitivos e interpessoais das pacientes. Quatro pacientes foram estudadas. Foram atendidas em ambulatório público e préviamente diagnosticadas com depressão bipolar, segundo Entrevista Psiquiátrica (SCID-I/CV-DSM-IV). Resultados indicaram sentimentos depreciativos na autoimagem, conteúdos eufóricos e falta de insight sobre a auto-tolerância ao estresse. Aspectos emocionais e cognitivos influenciaram no contexto interpessoal, acentuando o sofrimento. The psychological evaluation has major importance for the psychologist and must be considered as a relevant aspect for the training of student of psychology. This is a brief communication on the main aspects for the beginning of the psychological evaluation, considering the ethical respect to the well-being of the person, their demands and peculiarities. To understand the complexity and range of concerns and care relevant to this professional action is part of the purpose of this text. The psychological assessment and personality assessment encompasses a complexity of factors associated with limitations and range for this professional activity. By using of the Rorschach one can analyze important aspects of personality and behavior trends, factors associated with psychopathological and tolerance and ability to cope with stress situations - to mention a few examples. This research presents some prelim discussions resulting from normative studies of the R-PAS (Rorschach Performance Assessment System) with children, given relevant repercussions of using this system to our population.A avaliação psicológica e da personalidade abrange uma complexidade de fatores associados a limitações e abrangências para esta atuação. Por meio do uso do Rorschach, pode-se analisar importantes aspectos da personalidade bem como tendências de comportamento, fatores associados a quadros psicopatológicos e tolerância e capacidade para lidar com o estresse - para mencionar alguns exemplos. Distribution Grid Services and Flexibility Provision by Electric Vehicles: a Review of Options

International audienceDue to the increasing penetration of distributed generation and new high-power consumption loads – such as electric vehicles (EVs) – distribution system operators (DSO) are facing new grid security challenges. DSOs have historically dealt with such issues by making investments in grid reinforcement. However, an alternative solution, enabled by the expected roll-out of smart meters and high penetration of flexible loads, would be the increased use of flexibility services. Flexible loads, with EVs at their forefront, can modulate their consumption or even inject power back to the grid depending on current grid conditions. In return, flexibility provision should be remunerated accordingly. In this paper, the authors are interested in making an accurate description of the flexibility services at the distribution level which could be provided by EVs as well as their requirements, e.g. location, activation time and duration. Market design recommendations for enhancing the provision of DSO grid services by EVs are derived from the conducted analysis

Testing statistical significance scores of sequence comparison methods with structure similarity

BACKGROUND: In the past years the Smith-Waterman sequence comparison algorithm has gained popularity due to improved implementations and rapidly increasing computing power. However, the quality and sensitivity of a database search is not only determined by the algorithm but also by the statistical significance testing for an alignment. The e-value is the most commonly used statistical validation method for sequence database searching. The CluSTr database and the Protein World database have been created using an alternative statistical significance test: a Z-score based on Monte-Carlo statistics. Several papers have described the superiority of the Z-score as compared to the e-value, using simulated data. We were interested if this could be validated when applied to existing, evolutionary related protein sequences. RESULTS: All experiments are performed on the ASTRAL SCOP database. The Smith-Waterman sequence comparison algorithm with both e-value and Z-score statistics is evaluated, using ROC, CVE and AP measures. The BLAST and FASTA algorithms are used as reference. We find that two out of three Smith-Waterman implementations with e-value are better at predicting structural similarities between proteins than the Smith-Waterman implementation with Z-score. SSEARCH especially has very high scores. CONCLUSION: The compute intensive Z-score does not have a clear advantage over the e-value. The Smith-Waterman implementations give generally better results than their heuristic counterparts. We recommend using the SSEARCH algorithm combined with e-values for pairwise sequence comparisons
