On uniqueness of the q-state Potts model on a self-dual family of graphs

This paper deals with the location of the complex zeros of the Tutte polynomial for a class of self-dual graphs. For this class of graphs, as the form of the eigenvalues is known, the regions of the complex plane can be focused on the sets where there is only one dominant eigenvalue in particular containing the positive half plane. Thus, in these regions, the analyticity of the pressure can be derived easily. Next, some examples of graphs with their Tutte polynomial having a few number of eigenvalues are given. The cases of the strip of triangles with a double edge, the wheel and the cycle with an edge having a high order of multiplicity are presented. In particular, for this last example, we remark that the well known conjecture of Chen et al. is false in the finite case

Continuum Percolation in the Relative Neighborhood Graph

In the present study, we establish the existence of nontrivial site percolation threshold in the Relative Neighborhood Graph (RNG) for Poisson stationary point process with unit intensity in the plane

International audienceThe paper studies the expectation of the inspection time in complex aging systems , i.e. the length of the shortest path in a Directed Acyclic Graph, with random costs on egdes. We give a lower bound for this expectation

    Continuum percolation in proximity graphs

    No full text
14 pagesWe establish a sufficient condition to obtain continuum percolation on a class of proximity graphs when their vertices are distributed under a stationary Poisson point process with unit intensity in the plane. We apply this result on a family of graphs which generalizes β\beta-skeleton graphs

Using the Eigenvalue Relaxation for Binary Least-Squares Estimation Problems

The goal of this paper is to survey the properties of the eigenvalue relaxation for least squares binary problems. This relaxation is a convex program which is obtained as the Lagrangian dual of the original problem with an implicit compact constraint and as such, is a convex problem with polynomial time complexity. Moreover, as a main pratical advantage of this relaxation over the standard Semi-Definite Programming approach, several efficient bundle methods are available for this problem allowing to address problems of very large dimension. The necessary tools from convex analysis are recalled and shown at work for handling the problem of exactness of this relaxation. Two applications are described. The first one is the problem of binary image reconstruction and the second is the problem of multiuser detection in CDMA systems

Segmentation-based video coding system allowing the manipulation of objects

    Get PDF
This paper presents a generic video coding algorithm allowing the content-based manipulation of objects. This manipulation is possible thanks to the definition of a spatiotemporal segmentation of the sequences. The coding strategy relies on a joint optimization in the rate-distortion sense of the partition definition and of the coding techniques to be used within each region. This optimization creates the link between the analysis and synthesis parts of the coder. The analysis defines the time evolution of the partition, as well as the elimination or the appearance of regions that are homogeneous either spatially or in motion. The coding of the texture as well as of the partition relies on region-based motion compensation techniques. The algorithm offers a good compromise between the ability to track and manipulate objects and the coding efficiency.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Politique d’usages du réseau câblé dans le secteur de la formation professionnelle

    Get PDF

Structural decoding of netrin-4 reveals a regulatory function towards mature basement membranes

Netrins, a family of laminin-related molecules, have been proposed to act as guidance cues either during nervous system development or the establishment of the vascular system. This was clearly demonstrated for netrin-1 via its interaction with the receptors DCC and UNC5s. However, mainly based on shared homologies with netrin-1, netrin-4 was also proposed to play a role in neuronal outgrowth and developmental/pathological angiogenesis via interac- tions with netrin-1 receptors. Here, we present the high-resolution structure of netrin-4, which shows unique features in comparison with netrin-1, and show that it does not bind directly to any of the known netrin-1 receptors. We show that netrin-4 disrupts laminin networks and basement membranes (BMs) through high-affinity binding to the laminin g1 chain. We hypothesize that this laminin-related function is essential for the previously described effects on axon growth promotion and angiogenesis. Our study unveils netrin-4 as a non-enzymatic extracellular matrix protein actively disrupting pre-existing BMs
