Dunaliella salina as marine microalga highly tolerant to but a poor remover of cadmium

[Abstract]Cadmium tolerance and removal in the marine microalga Dunaliella salina were studied in cultures exposed to different metal concentrations (5–120 mg Cd l−1) for 96 h. This microalga can be included in the group of microalgal species most tolerant to cadmium due to the high value of EC50 that it possesses (48.9 mg Cd l−1at 96 h of culture). The greater percentage of cadmium removed was obtained in cultures exposed to 5 mg Cd l−1 at 96 h, but removing only 11.3% of the added cadmium. In all cultures, the quantity of cadmium removed intracellularly was much lower than the bioadsorbed quantity and it was proportional to the sulfhydryl group levels. Both the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models were suitable for describing the short-term biosorption of cadmium by living cells of D. salina.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; REM 2000-0458HI

Detection of asymptomatic drug-induced hypoglycemia using continuous glucose monitoring in older people – Systematic review

Aim: We conducted a systematic review of the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in older patients, in order to consolidate the growing evidence base in this area. Methods: Our protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42017068523). We searched SCI Web of Science, Ovid SP MEDLINE and EMBASE from January 2010 to June 2017 for observational studies and randomized controlled trial of CGM in older patients (mean age 65 or older) with diabetes. We excluded studies that involved only hospitalized patients. Two reviewers independently extracted data blood sugar values (in particular, hypoglycemic episodes) captured with the use of CGM. We also assessed adverse events and acceptability of CGM. Results: After screening 901 abstracts, we included nine studies with a total of 989 older patients with diabetes. The CGM studies reveal that hypoglycemic episodes were occurring in a sizeable proportion (28–65%) of participants. Most (80–100%) of these episodes were asymptomatic, with some patients spending nearly two hours per day in the hypoglycemic range. Older people with diabetes found CGM acceptable and experienced improved health-related well-being. Conclusion: CGM frequently picks up asymptomatic hypoglycemic episodes in older patients with diabetes. Users of CGM report improved well-being, and reduction of diabetes-related stress

Effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on Spanish Cod market

Covid-19 was a pandemic situation that affect the world during 2020, creating an economic and health crisis due to the lockdowns that has affected all the sector of the economy including seafood sector. The subsequent lockdowns create disruptions on the supply chain, affecting the food system. The purpose of this thesis has been to explore how Covid-19 has affected the cod supply chain in Spain. To answer these questions, I have interviewed a processing company and a retail company, doing that, it is going to be possible to show the influence of Covid on the amount of kg that were sold on Spain and where they were sold and how affected was the market due to the pandemic situation. The results from this thesis give an important idea of what should be done in future crises, because is possible to learn from the past and build resilience to avoid that future incidents, would not affect so severe on the seafood sector

App móbil para que estudantes oferten pisos, habitacións e busquen compañeiros de piso ou pisos

[Abstract]: Before starting the course, many students try to find apartments to stay in. Many of them have been looking for a long time, while others have not found something that fits their needs, whether in terms of finances, quality of housing, specific location, type of partners, etc. The aim of this mobile application is to connect different students, so that the process of finding accommodation or roommates is as simple as possible and best adapted to each user. This will help many of these students to get a better price for their accommodation, a more suitable location according to their needs or directly a better flat. In addition, those who initially do not have roommates and are interested in sharing housing will be able to find roommates much more easily and effectively. The decision to make it a mobile app is due to the fact that developing for mobile devices allows us to reach a larger number of people, as there are currently many more smartphones than computers. This is especially noticeable among young people, who are the primary target audience for this application. Another factor behind this decision is that mobile phones have cameras, making it very convenient to quickly take photos of different parts of a property, thus facilitating the process of posting an advertisement.[Resumo]: Antes de comezar o curso, moitos estudantes tratan de buscar pisos onde quedar. Moitos deles levan moito tempo buscando, mentres que outros non atoparon algo que se axuste ás súas necesidades, xa sexa en termos económicos, calidade da vivenda, localización concreta, tipo de compañeiros, etc. O obxectivo desta aplicación móbil é conectar a distintos estudantes, para que o proceso de busca de aloxamento ou de compañeiros sexa o máis sinxelo posible e se adapte da mellor maneira a cada usuario. Isto axudará a moitos destes estudantes a conseguir un mellor prezo para o seu aloxamento, unha localización máis adecuada segundo as súas necesidades ou directamente un piso mellor. Ademais, aqueles que inicialmente non teñan compañeiros de piso e estean interesados en compartir vivenda poderán atopar compañeiros de piso de forma moito máis sinxela e efectiva. A decisión de desenvolvela adaptada ao móbil, débese ao feito de que as aplicacións para dispositivos móbiles permítenos chegar a un maior número de persoas, xa que actualmente hai moitos máis teléfonos intelixentes que ordenadores. Isto é especialmente notable entre os mozos, que son o público obxectivo principal desta aplicación. Catheter-Related Acremonium kiliense Fungemia in a Patient with Ulcerative Colitis under Treatment with Infliximab

Acremonium spp. are filamentous, cosmopolitan fungi commonly isolated from plant debris and soil. They are infrequent pathogens in humans. Acremonium fungemia has been reported in neutropenic patients associated with central venous catheters and in nonneutropenic patients receiving long-term total parenteral nutrition. TNF-α blockade is associated with fungal infections, but no Acremonium spp. infection had been reported up to the present. In this paper, we present a patient with ulcerative colitis who developed Acremonium kiliense fungemia associated with infliximab therapy while receiving total parenteral nutrition. The patient was successfully treated with voriconazole. Acremonium sp. infection must be suspected as another cause of fungal infection in patients under treatment with infliximab

La celebración del pasado en la ciudad: un Monumento a la Bandera para Rosario

This article is about the meaning of the past and the history for the city of Rosario. Since 1852, the year when Rosario was declared a city, there were many moments when the government and the elites tried to find a glorious past for Rosario. During that process, the creation of the national flag in Rosario in 1812 became the most important fact to remember and celebrate. Bearing this in mind, we have set as our goal to analyze the whole process until 1939, when Rosario finally had the Contest to build the National Flag Memorial.Este artículo se ocupa del significado del pasado y de la historia para la ciudad de Rosario, desde 1852, año en que fue declarada ciudad. Desde entonces, existieron muchos momentos en los que el gobierno y las élites intentaron encontrar un pasado glorioso para la ciudad. Durante ese proceso, la creación de la bandera nacional a orillas del río Paraná en 1812 se convirtió en el hecho más importante a conmemorar y festejar. Teniendo en cuenta esto, nos hemos propuestos analizar el desarrollo de este proceso hasta 1939, año en que la ciudad consiguió el tan esperado Concurso para la erección del Monumento Nacional a la Bandera

Altura mínima ósea para técnica de elevación de seno atraumática. Revisión bibliográfica

Traballo Fin de Grao en Odontoloxía. Curso 2020-2021Objetivo: a partir de una revisión bibliográfica, determinar cuál es la altura ósea mínima para poder llevar a cabo una elevación de seno atraumática de forma predecible. Material y métodos: para la elaboración de esta revisión bibliográfica se realizó una búsqueda de artículos científicos consultando las bases de datos PubMed y Cochrane. Se utilizaron como criterios de búsqueda las palabras “osteotome”, “transcrestal”, “sinus floor”, “elevation”, “augmentation” y “residual bone height”. Se seleccionaron los estudios publicados en los últimos 5 años en inglés y castellano. Resultados: Después de la búsqueda y evaluación de la literatura según los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, entraron en la selección final 13 artículos. Los resultados de estos estudios se resumieron en una tabla y, seguidamente, se llevó a cabo una discusión con las conclusiones de los diferentes autores. Conclusiones: La altura ósea remanente del maxilar posterior no influye en la supervivencia de implantes colocados tras una elevación de seno atraumática. Esta técnica cerrada se puede realizar en alturas menores de 4 mm, siempre y cuando se asegure una estabilidad primaria adecuada. Los injertos óseos no son requisito para lograr mayor éxito en la técnica de elevación de seno atraumática. Los implantes cortos, con modificaciones de superficie y en su macrodiseño, podrían alcanzar una supervivencia similar a la de los implantes largo

Usos de rollo en el español de Galicia. Análisis gramatical y pragmático-discursivo

Traballo Fin de Grao en Lingua e Literatura Españolas. Curso 2019-2020Este trabajo se centra en el estudio de la forma rollo, una expresión lingüística frecuente en las conversaciones de hablantes jóvenes que apenas ha sido estudiada hasta el momento. El objetivo del trabajo es conocer sus múltiples valores pragmáticos y discursivos en el español de Galicia. Según la descripción lexicográfica del DLE, rollo es un sustantivo polisémico con numerosos usos coloquiales. Sin embargo, en el habla se registran valores que no se corresponden con ninguna acepción del diccionario, como por ejemplo en (1): (1) Lo que más me ha gustado siempre con lo que más he sentido /yo qué sé pues // me=rollo un poco más sesentero, así la psicodelia de los sesenta / el funky setentero / (ESLORA, SCOM_H13_014) Este uso muestra semejanza con algunos valores de unidades como tipo, en plan, como u onda en diferentes variedades del español, tal como han mostrado los estudios de Méndez Orense (2016) y Taibo Cao (2016). Teniendo en cuenta estas y otras publicaciones, se analizará la forma rollo atendiendo a sus características morfosintácticas y a sus valores pragmático-discursivos. La investigación se basa en los usos lingüísticos reales registrados en el corpus oral ESLORA (http://eslora.usc.es), en el que se reúnen conversaciones y entrevistas grabadas en Galicia.
