Dark Left-Right Gauge Model: SU(2)_R Phenomenology
In the recently proposed dark left-right gauge model of particle
interactions, the left-handed fermion doublet is connected to its
right-handed counterpart through a scalar bidoublet, but
couples to only through which has no vacuum expectation value.
The usual R parity, i.e. , can be defined for this
nonsupersymmetric model so that both and are odd together with
. The lightest is thus a viable dark-matter candidate (scotino).
Here we explore the phenomenology associated with the gauge group of
this model, which allows it to appear at the TeV energy scale. The exciting
possibility of charged leptons is discussed.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
Investigating IoT Middleware Platforms for Smart Application Development
With the growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the data
generated through these devices is also increasing. By 2030, it is been
predicted that the number of IoT devices will exceed the number of human beings
on earth. This gives rise to the requirement of middleware platform that can
manage IoT devices, intelligently store and process gigantic data generated for
building smart applications such as Smart Cities, Smart Healthcare, Smart
Industry, and others. At present, market is overwhelming with the number of IoT
middleware platforms with specific features. This raises one of the most
serious and least discussed challenge for application developer to choose
suitable platform for their application development. Across the literature,
very little attempt is done in classifying or comparing IoT middleware
platforms for the applications. This paper categorizes IoT platforms into four
categories namely-publicly traded, open source, developer friendly and
end-to-end connectivity. Some of the popular middleware platforms in each
category are investigated based on general IoT architecture. Comparison of IoT
middleware platforms in each category, based on basic, sensing, communication
and application development features is presented. This study can be useful for
IoT application developers to select the most appropriate platform according to
their application requirement
Flavour Changing Neutral Currents, Weak-Scale Scalars and Rare Top Decays
We examine the decays and in the Standard
Model with an extra scalar doublet and no discrete symmetry preventing
tree-level flavour changing neutral currents. The Yukawa couplings of the new
scalars are assumed to be proportional to fermion masses, evading bounds on
FCNC's from the light quark sector. These rare top decays may be visible at the
SSC.Comment: (some wording changed, and several references added) 13 pages, 2

The Caenorhabditis elegans Iodotyrosine Deiodinase Ortholog SUP-18 Functions through a Conserved Channel SC-Box to Regulate the Muscle Two-Pore Domain Potassium Channel SUP-9
Loss-of-function mutations in the Caenorhabditis elegans gene sup-18 suppress the defects in muscle contraction conferred by a gain-of-function mutation in SUP-10, a presumptive regulatory subunit of the SUP-9 two-pore domain K+ channel associated with muscle membranes. We cloned sup-18 and found that it encodes the C. elegans ortholog of mammalian iodotyrosine deiodinase (IYD), an NADH oxidase/flavin reductase that functions in iodine recycling and is important for the biosynthesis of thyroid hormones that regulate metabolism. The FMN-binding site of mammalian IYD is conserved in SUP-18, which appears to require catalytic activity to function. Genetic analyses suggest that SUP-10 can function with SUP-18 to activate SUP-9 through a pathway that is independent of the presumptive SUP-9 regulatory subunit UNC-93. We identified a novel evolutionarily conserved serine-cysteine-rich region in the C-terminal cytoplasmic domain of SUP-9 required for its specific activation by SUP-10 and SUP-18 but not by UNC-93. Since two-pore domain K+ channels regulate the resting membrane potentials of numerous cell types, we suggest that the SUP-18 IYD regulates the activity of the SUP-9 channel using NADH as a coenzyme and thus couples the metabolic state of muscle cells to muscle membrane excitability.National Institutes of Health (U.S.) (NIH Grant GM24663)National Science Foundation (U.S.) (Graduate Research Fellowship by NSFC Grant 31371253)National Institutes of Health (U.S.) (NIH predoctoral training grant)Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Investigator

On competitive bidding: scoring and position probability graphs
Iso-score curves graph (iSCG) and mathematical relationships between Scoring Parameters (SP) and Forecasting Parameters (FP) can be used in Economic Scoring Formulas (ESF) used in tendering to distribute the score among bidders in the economic part of a proposal.
Each contracting authority must set an ESF when publishing tender specifications and the strategy of each bidder will differ depending on the ESF selected and the weight of the overall proposal scoring.
The various mathematical relationships and density distributions that describe the main SPs and FPs, and the representation of tendering data by means of iSCGs, enable the generation of two new types of graphs that can be very useful for bidders who want to be more competitive: the scoring and position probability graphs
Magnetic and Structural Phase Transitions in the Spinel Compound Fe1+xCr2-xO4
Neutron and X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat
measurements have been used to investigate the magnetic and structural phase
transitions of the spinel system Fe1+xCr2-xO4(0.0<=x<=1.0). The temperature
versus Fe concentration (x) phase diagram features two magnetically ordered
states and four structural states below 420 K. The complexity of the phase
diagram is closely related to the change in the spin and orbital degrees of
freedom induced by substitution of Fe ions for Cr ions. The systematic change
in the crystal structure is explained by the combined effects of Jahn-Teller
distortion, spin-lattice interaction, Fe2+-Fe3+ hopping, and disorder among
Fe2+, Fe3+, and Cr3+ ions

Magnetic Properties of Ab initio Model for Iron-Based Superconductors LaFeAsO
By using variational Monte Carlo method, we examine an effective low-energy
model for LaFeAsO derived from an ab initio downfolding scheme. We show that
quantum and many-body fluctuations near a quantum critical point largely reduce
the antiferromagnetic (AF) ordered moment and the model not only quantitatively
reproduces the small ordered moment in LaFeAsO, but also explains the diverse
dependence on LaFePO, BaFe2As2 and FeTe. We also find that LaFeAsO is under
large orbital fluctuations, sandwiched by the AF Mott insulator and weakly
correlated metals. The orbital fluctuations and Dirac-cone dispersion hold keys
for the diverse magnetic properties.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
