Residual Income in Four Dimensions: Goal-Congruity, Controllability, Understandability and Practicability

The article discusses ten versions of residual income known in the literature from the point of view of four criteria that are of special importance if the measure is to be the basis of managerial bonuses: goal-congruity, controllability, understandability and practicability. There is – on average – a considerable trade-off between goal-congruity and the three remaining criteria. However, there are residual income versions – like net economic income (NEI) and the variant of residual income that is based exclusively on unadjusted book values (RIBV) – which demonstrate outstandingly favorable levels of goal-congruity, controllability, understandability and practicability. Although NEI exhibits the highest level of goal-congruity among the ten versions of residual income studied in the article and acceptable levels of three remaining features, it is deficient of intensive scientific examination which is necessary to make such a new tool the subject of justified recommendation. On the other hand, RIBV is the most controllable and seems to be the most understandable and the most practicable among the ten versions analyzed in the paper. However, its goal-congruity is relatively low. Yet, it can be improved without making the computational formula more complex simply by including some mechanisms making managers less myopic in bonus plan architecture.residual income (RI), net economic income (NEI), residual income that is based exclusively on unadjusted book values (RIBV), goal-congruity

Lewis hybrid computing system, users manual

The Lewis Research Center's Hybrid Simulation Lab contains a collection of analog, digital, and hybrid (combined analog and digital) computing equipment suitable for the dynamic simulation and analysis of complex systems. This report is intended as a guide to users of these computing systems. The report describes the available equipment' and outlines procedures for its use. Particular is given to the operation of the PACER 100 digital processor. System software to accomplish the usual digital tasks such as compiling, editing, etc. and Lewis-developed special purpose software are described

Design of a high-speed digital processing element for parallel simulation

    Get PDF
A prototype of a custom designed computer to be used as a processing element in a multiprocessor based jet engine simulator is described. The purpose of the custom design was to give the computer the speed and versatility required to simulate a jet engine in real time. Real time simulations are needed for closed loop testing of digital electronic engine controls. The prototype computer has a microcycle time of 133 nanoseconds. This speed was achieved by: prefetching the next instruction while the current one is executing, transporting data using high speed data busses, and using state of the art components such as a very large scale integration (VLSI) multiplier. Included are discussions of processing element requirements, design philosophy, the architecture of the custom designed processing element, the comprehensive instruction set, the diagnostic support software, and the development status of the custom design

INDEKS QUASI-BETA: WYKORZYSTANIE WIELOWYMIAROWEJ ANALIZY PORoWNAWCZEJ DO WYZNACZANIA INDEKSU RYZYKA INWESTYCJI W AKCJE NA GPW W WARSZAWIE

Jedna z takich metod jest metoda wykorzystujaca wielowymiarowa analize porownawcza do wyznaczenia indeksu ryzyka inwestycji. W artykule podjeto probe oszacowania indeksow quasi-beta z wykorzystaniem wielowymiarowej analizy porownawczej.

In the paper, the author formulates the thesis that in our times the role of journalism has been lost as the medium of informing about events, the popularisation of knowledge and forming positive cultural patterns. This happened as a result of a departure from a culture that refers to values. At present, the mass media create a consumerist culture, focused on short-term interests and living an ordinary life. This allows them to manipulate society for the sake of the interests of different groups. In order to overcome this state of affairs, which is unfavourable for society, it is necessary to return to the ideals of the Enlightenment and a culture appealing to values.W tekście autorka formułuje tezę, że współcześnie została zatracona rola dziennikarstwa polegająca na przekazie informacji o wydarzeniach oraz popularyzacji wiedzy i formułowaniu pozytywnych wzorców kulturowych.

Development and verification of real-time, hybrid computer simulation of F100-PW-100(3) turbofan engine

    Get PDF
A real time, hybrid computer simulation of a turbofan engine is described. Controls research programs involving that engine are supported by the simulation. The real time simulation is shown to match the steady state and transient performance of the engine over a wide range of flight conditions and power settings. The simulation equations, FORTRAN listing, and analog patching diagrams are included

F100 multivariable control synthesis program: Evaluation of a multivariable control using a real-time engine simulation

    Get PDF
The design, evaluation, and testing of a practical, multivariable, linear quadratic regulator control for the F100 turbofan engine were accomplished. NASA evaluation of the multivariable control logic and implementation are covered. The evaluation utilized a real time, hybrid computer simulation of the engine. Results of the evaluation are presented, and recommendations concerning future engine testing of the control are made. Results indicated that the engine testing of the control should be conducted as planned
