Correlations in transverse momentum in pion-proton and kaon-proton collisions at 250 GeV/c

We have measured the second-order normalized differential factorial moments as a function of the difference of transverse momentum (ΔpT\Delta p_T) in \p^+ p and K+pK^+ p collisions at 250 GeV/cc. The second-order differential factorial moments for like-charged pairs reveal a strong increase with decreasing ΔpT\Delta p_T. In a small central rapidity window this increase is described by a simple power law. Such a behavior, if interpreted as originating from Bose-Einstein correlations, may indicate a structure of the transverse spatial distribution of the source similar to that recently predicted by Bia\l{}as and Peschanski for color-dipole emission in onium-onium scattering. The power of the rise obtained in the fit agrees with the predicted value.Comment: Talk presented at the 7th Workshop on Multiparticle Production ``Correlations and Fluctuations'', Nijmegen, The Netherlands, 30th June-6th July, 1996. Single spin asymmetry in inclusive pion production, Collins effect and the string model

We calculate the single spin asymmetry in the inclusive pion production in proton-proton collisions. We generate the asymmetry at the level of fragmentation function (Collins effect) by the Lund coloured string mechanism. We compare our results with the Fermilab E704 data from polarized proton-proton collisions at 200 GeV. We show that the transversely polarized quark densities at high Bjorken x strongly differ from these predicted by the SU(6) proton wave function.Comment: (11 pages in TeX; 7 figures in PS files available upon request) LYCEN/9423, TPJU 12/9

Exclusive ηc\eta_c photo- and electroproduction at HERA as a possible probe of the odderon singularity in QCD

Theory and phenomenology of the eta_c photo- and electroproduction is developed from the point of view of probing the odderon singularity in QCD which corresponds to the three gluon exchange mechanism. This mechanism leads to the cross-sections which are independent of W^2 for the exchange of three non-interacting gluons or exhibit increase with increasing W^2 (or 1/x) for the odderon intercept above unity. The \eta_c electroproduction in the three gluon exchange mechanism is shown to be entirely controlled by the transversely polarised virtual photons. The magnitude of the eta_c photoproduction cross-section is estimated to be around 11-45pb. The t-dependence of the differential cross-section is also discussed.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, uses epsfig.sty; Numerical error corrected. A factor of 1/3 missing in amplitude in Eq.(8) added. Obtained gamma p -> eta_c p cross-section smaller by a factor of 9 than in the original version of the paper. Figures 4 and 5 changed accordingl

Direct Calculations of the Odderon Intercept in the Perturbative QCD

The odderon intercept is calculated directly, from its expression via an average energy of the odderon Hamiltonian, using both trial wave functions in the variational approach and the wave function recently constructed by R.A.Janik and J.Wosiek. The results confirm their reported value for the energy. The odderon intercept is calculated directly, from its expression via an average energy of the odderon Hamiltonian, using both trial wave functions in the variational approach and the wave function recently constructed by R.A.Janik and J.Wosiek.The results confirm their reported value for the energy. Variational calculations give energies some 30% higher. However they also predict the odderon intercept to be quite close to unity. In fact, for realistic values of αs\alpha_s, the intercept calculated variationally is at most 2% lower than the exact one: 0.94 instead of 0.96. It is also found that the solution for q3=0q_3=0 does not belong to the odderon spectrum. The diffusion parameter is found to be of the order 0.6.Comment: 20 page

Methods of Improving Speech Intelligibility for Listeners with Hearing Resolution Deficit

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: Methods developed for real-time time scale modification (TSM) of speech signal are presented. They are based on the non-uniform, speech rate depended SOLA algorithm (Synchronous Overlap and Add). Influence of the proposed method on the intelligibility of speech was investigated for two separate groups of listeners, i.e. hearing impaired children and elderly listeners. It was shown that for the speech with average rate equal to or higher than 6.48 vowels/s, all of the proposed methods have statistically significant impact on the improvement of speech intelligibility for hearing impaired children with reduced hearing resolution and one of the proposed methods significantly improves comprehension of speech in the group of elderly listeners with reduced hearing resolution. Nuclear Attenuation of high energy two-hadron system in the string model

    Get PDF
Nuclear attenuation of the two-hadron system is considered in the string model. The two-scale model and its improved version with two different choices of constituent formation time and sets of parameters obtained earlier for the single hadron attenuation, are used to describe available experimental data for the zz-dependence of subleading hadron, whereas satisfactory agreement with the experimental data has been observed. A model prediction for ν\nu-dependence of the nuclear attenuation of the two-hadron system is also presented.Comment: 8 page
