Production mechanisms and single-spin asymmetry for kaons in high energy hadron-hadron collisions
Direct consequences on kaon production of the picture proposed in a recent
Letter and subsequent publications are discussed. Further evidence supporting
the proposed picture is obtained. Comparison with the data for the inclusive
cross sections in unpolarized reactions is made. Quantitative results for the
left-right asymmetry in single-spin processes are presented.Comment: 10 pages, 2 Postscript figure
Lambda Polarization in Polarized Proton-Proton Collisions at RHIC
We discuss Lambda polarization in semi-inclusive proton-proton collisions,
with one of the protons longitudinally polarized. The hyperfine interaction
responsible for the - and - mass splittings gives
rise to flavor asymmetric fragmentation functions and to sizable polarized
non-strange fragmentation functions. We predict large positive Lambda
polarization in polarized proton-proton collisions at large rapidities of the
produced Lambda, while other models, based on SU(3) flavor symmetric
fragmentation functions, predict zero or negative Lambda polarization. The
effect of and decays is also discussed. Forthcoming
experiments at RHIC will be able to differentiate between these predictions.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
Single spin asymmetries in QCD
Measurements of single transverse spin asymmetries in high energy inclusive
processes have always shown unexpected and challenging results. Several cases
are considered and discussed within a QCD approach which couples perturbative
dynamics to new non perturbative partonic information; the aim is that of
developing a consistent phenomenological description of these unusual single

Upper and Lower Bounds for Weak Backdoor Set Detection
We obtain upper and lower bounds for running times of exponential time
algorithms for the detection of weak backdoor sets of 3CNF formulas,
considering various base classes. These results include (omitting polynomial
factors), (i) a 4.54^k algorithm to detect whether there is a weak backdoor set
of at most k variables into the class of Horn formulas; (ii) a 2.27^k algorithm
to detect whether there is a weak backdoor set of at most k variables into the
class of Krom formulas. These bounds improve an earlier known bound of 6^k. We
also prove a 2^k lower bound for these problems, subject to the Strong

Single spin asymmetries in DIS
We consider possible mechanisms for single spin asymmetries in inclusive Deep
Inelastic Scattering (DIS) processes with unpolarized leptons and transversely
polarized nucleons. Tests for the effects of non-zero \bfk_\perp, for the
properties of spin dependent quark fragmentations and for quark helicity

Development of an optimized processing method for Withania frutescens
Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal originates mainly from Northern and Southern India. Primarily the roots are used in the Ayurvedic medicine as tonic, sedative hypnotic, adstringent, diuretic, emetic, and aphrodisiac. In Europe, it is widely used in food supplements. Due to the many effects and uses of this plant, the analysis of the Withania somnifera and optimization of industrial processing is nowadays an important issue. In Europe W. frutescens is native, and may be interesting for industrial preparation due to its similar phytochemical profile to W. somnifera. The point of our research was to develop an effective extraction and hydrolysis method of the Withania frutescens leaves to optimize the industrial processing
Lambda polarization and single-spin left-right asymmetry in diffractive hadron-hadron collisions
We discuss Lambda polarization and single-spin left-right asymmetry in
diffractive hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. We show that the
physical picture proposed in a recent Letter is consistent with the
experimental observation that polarization in the diffractive
process, , is much higher than that in the inclusive
reaction, . We make predictions for the left-right asymmetry,
A_N, and for the spin transfer, , in the single-spin process
and suggest further experimental tests of the

The effects of fermentation and enzymatic treatment of pea on nutrient digestibility and growth performance of broilers

Nationallizenz frei zugänglich.This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively.The present study examined the impacts of native, fermented or enzymatically treated peas (Pisum sativum L.) inclusion in broiler diets, on growth performance and nutrient digestibility. For the fermentation process, Madonna pea was mixed with water (1/1) containing 2.57×108 Bacillus subtilis (GalliPro®) spores/kg pea and then, incubated for 48 h at 30 °C. For the enzymatic treatment process, the used water for dough production contained three enzymes, AlphaGalTM (α-galactosidase), RONOZYME® ProAct and VP (protease and pectinases respectively – DSM, Switzerland) and the pea dough incubated for 24 h at 30°C. Nine corn-wheat-soybean diets were formulated by supplying 10%, 20% and 30% of the required CP with either native, fermented or enzymatically treated peas. Performance was recorded weekly and at the end of the experiment (day 35), apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of CP, amino acids (AA), crude fat, starch, Ca, P and K were determined. Data were subjected to ANOVA using GLM procedure with a 3×3 factorial arrangement of treatments. Both processes reduced α-galactosides, phytate, trypsin inhibitor activity and resistant starch in peas. Increasing levels of pea products up to 300 g/kg diet, reduced BW gain and feed intake (P⩽0.05). Broilers fed diets containing enzymatically treated pea had the best feed conversion ratio at day 35. Different types of pea product and their inclusion levels had no effect on AID of all nutrients. The interaction between type of the pea products and inclusion levels was significant for AID of starch. For native pea diets, 10% group showed similar AID of starch to 20% native pea but it had higher AID than 30% native pea. For fermented and enzymatically treated groups, all three levels displayed similar AID of starch. In conclusion, enzymatic treatment and fermentation could improve the nutritional quality of pea. Inclusion of enzymatically treated pea in broiler diets could improve broiler performance compared with other pea products while, it displayed neither positive nor negative impact on nutrient digestibility. The present findings indicate the feasibility of these processes, particularly enzymatic treatment, for improving the nutritional quality of pea as a protein source for broiler nutrition
Probing gluon helicity distribution and quark transversity through hyperon polarization in singly polarized pp collisions
We study the polarization of hyperon in different processes in singly
polarized collisions, in particular its relation to the polarized parton
distributions. We show that by measuring hyperon polarization in particularly
chosen processes, one can extract useful information on these parton
distributions. We show in particular that, by measuring the
polarization in high direct photon production process, one can extract
information on the gluon helicity distribution; and by measuring the transverse
polarization of hyeprons with high in singly polarized reactions, one can
obtain useful information on the transversity distribution. We present the
numerical results obtained for those hyperon polarizations using different
models for parton distribution function and those for the spin transfer in

Second moment of the Husimi distribution as a measure of complexity of quantum states
We propose the second moment of the Husimi distribution as a measure of
complexity of quantum states. The inverse of this quantity represents the
effective volume in phase space occupied by the Husimi distribution, and has a
good correspondence with chaoticity of classical system. Its properties are
similar to the classical entropy proposed by Wehrl, but it is much easier to
calculate numerically. We calculate this quantity in the quartic oscillator
model, and show that it works well as a measure of chaoticity of quantum
