Spain: Underwater Exploration on a Narrow Continental Shelf
In spite of Spain’s long coastline (nearly 8000 km) and its well-established tradition in underwater archaeology, the prehistoric settlement of the continental shelf is practically
unknown with very few finds. Underwater research has focused on naval archaeology and, until very recently, no attempt had been made to look for prehistoric underwater sites. In the past decade,new research projects have been launched to explore selected areas on the Cantabrian shelf and offshore of Gibraltar. Effect of supplementing <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i> fermentation product in sow diets on reproductive performance in a commercial environment
Sows (n = 491) were used to determine the effects of dietary yeast culture (Diamond V Original XPC™) on sow and litter performance in three treatments: (1) no added XPC, (2) 5 and 15 g d-1 XPC, and (3) 12 and 15 g d-1 XPC during gestation and lactation, respectively. Litter weight gain of multiparous sows fed XPC tended to be increased (P = 0.051), whereas that of primiparous sows was not affected. Days from wean to successful breeding of multiparous sows was reduced 35% (P < 0.05) by XPC. However, feeding a higher level of XPC during gestation resulted in no additional benefits.Key words: Litter weight gain, parity, sows, Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product </jats:p
Adapting spoken and visual output for a pedestrian navigation system, based on given situational statements
As mobile devices become more and more complex, there is an increasing desire for these devices to adapt to their users. This paper identifies parameters for different input sources (user, device and environment), and the parameters of media output (speech, graphics, sound and text), that may be modified to tailor user presentation in a pedestrian navigation system. We also provide an initial insight into some of the causal relationships between our input and output parameters, with a specific focus on the effects that speech can contribute to the presentation of media output

Mid‐ to late Holocene environmental changes and human‐environment interactions in the surroundings of La Silla del Papa, SW Spain
International audienceIn southern Iberia, the surroundings of the Strait of Gibraltar are known as a crossroad for population movements, cultural exchanges, and trade from Late Prehistory to modern times. However, questions remain about the impact of this historical development on the environment. The settlement of La Silla del Papa, an important hillfort in southern Andalusia (Cádiz), was occupied during the entire Iron Age, replaced by the coastal town Baelo Claudia during Roman times, and reoccupied during Early Medieval times. As such, La Silla del Papa and its territory represent an ideal location for long-term studies on human-environment interactions.
