Centrality Behaviour of J/ Production in Na50
The J/ production in 158 A GeV Pb-Pb interactions is studied, in the
dimuon decay channel, as a function of centrality, as measured with the
electromagnetic or with the very forward calorimeters. After a first sharp
variation at mid centrality, both patterns continue to fall down and exhibit a
curvature change at high centrality values. This trend excludes any
conventional hadronic model and is in agreement with a deconfined quark-gluon
phase scenario. We report also preliminary results on the measured charged
multiplicity, as given by a dedicated detector.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures (in eps) talk given at XXXI International

Influence of sense of coherence on adolescents' self-perceived dental aesthetics:a cross-sectional study
Background
Sense of coherence (SOC) is a psychosocial factor capable of influencing perception of health, improving one’s ability to manage life. It is the central construct of salutogenesis. SOC allows for identification and mobilization of resources to effectively manage or solve problems, promoting health and quality of life. Using Wilson-Cleary’s conceptual model we hypothesized that SOC might contribute to self-perception of dental aesthetics. The aim of this study was to investigate whether SOC levels were related to self-perception of dental aesthetics against assessed normative orthodontic treatment need among adolescents.
Methods
A cross-sectional study was conducted with 615 male and female adolescents aged 12 to 15 years. Data collection comprised socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics, SOC (SOC 13), self-perceived dental aesthetics (Oral Aesthetic Subjective Impact Scale), and assessment of orthodontic treatment need (Dental Aesthetic Index). Statistical analysis involved Pearson’s chi-square test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test and multiple linear regression. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was calculated for the determination of the strength of correlations among the numerical variables. The level of significance was set at 5% (p < 0.05).
Results
50.1% of the participants were classified as having a high SOC (≥ median). Overall, SOC was associated with self-perceived dental aesthetics (p = 0.048). In the adolescents with no orthodontic treatment need, those with a low SOC perceived their dental aesthetics more negatively than those with high levels of SOC. The multiple regression analysis demonstrated an inverse relationship between SOC and: 1) age (p = 0.007), SOC being higher in the younger age group; 2) self-perceived dental aesthetics (p = 0.001), a higher SOC being associated with those who had a positive dental self-perception.
Conclusions
SOC was associated with self-perceived dental aesthetics and adolescents with a high SOC were more likely to perceive their dental aesthetics more positively. SOC did not seem to influence self-perception of dental aesthetics in adolescents who were clinically assessed as having an orthodontic treatment need, however, in those where there was no orthodontic treatment need, a low SOC was associated with a negative self-perception of dental appearance
This research forms primarily part of the child studies and is based on its specific field of linguistic issues, assuming the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the speech analysis (of French-speaking tradition), having also regard the inputs of related fields. It analyses texts from handbooks/textbooks used on the Portuguese educational system, intending to reveal pictures that these books construct about children and childhood, as well as the most relevant linguistic resources associated with such construction. This paper aims at unravelling the representation of the text typologies in the handbooks and how these can contribute for building of such pictures. From this, one can conclude that children from the texts are voiceless and have no power, they are consumers but not co-producers of culture, with these texts instilling conservative values for maintaining the established social order, but also that the way texts typologies are organized to contribute for reaching that propose. Scaling of charged particle multiplicity in Pb-Pb collisions at SPS energies
The charged particle multiplicity distribution has been measured by the NA50 experiment in Pb--Pb collisions at the CERN SPS. Measurements were done at incident energies of 40 and 158 GeV per nucleon over a broad impact parameter range. The multiplicity distributions are studied as a function of centrality using the number of participating nucleons (), or the number of binary nucleon--nucleon collisions (). Their values at midrapidity exhibit a power law scaling behaviour given by and at 158 GeV. Compatible results are found for the scaling behaviour at 40 GeV. The width of the distributions is larger at 158 than at 40 GeV/nucleon and decreases slightly with centrality at both energies. Our results are compared to similar studies performed by other experiments both at the CERN SPS and at RHIC.
