Contours of the reduced action, trajectories and loci of transit times are developed in the region near the two point sources.     The high energy limit of the trajectory representation of quantum mechanics

    The trajectory representation in the high energy limit (Bohr correspondence principle) manifests a residual indeterminacy. This indeterminacy is compared to the indeterminacy found in the classical limit (Planck's constant to 0) [Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 15, 1363 (2000)] for particles in the classically allowed region, the classically forbiden region, and near the WKB turning point. The differences between Bohr's and Planck's principles for the trajectory representation are compared with the differences between these correspondence principles for the wave representation. The trajectory representation in the high energy limit is shown to go to neither classical nor statistical mechanics. The residual indeterminacy is contrasted to Heisenberg uncertainty. The relationship between indeterminacy and 't Hooft's information loss and equivalence classes is investigated.Comment: 12 pages of LaTeX. No figures.     Conodont biostratigraphy of the Crawford Group, Southern Uplands, Scotland

    Extensive new conodont collections from the Crawford Group, the oldest succession in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, support the previously documented biostratigraphical ages for the included formations. The Raven Gill Formation is lower Whitlandian, Arenig (comparable in age to the Dounans Limestone in the Highland Border Complex) and the Kirkton Formation is latest Llandeilian-Aurelucian, Llanvirn to Caradoc in age. It is concluded that there is a significant stratigraphical gap within the Crawford Group. The restricted and probably fault-bounded nature of the Raven Gill outcrops suggests that these may represent olistoliths within a mélange of Llandeilian-Aurelucian age. The chert-bearing succession of the Northern Belt of the Southern Uplands thus represents the juxtaposed sedimentary records of two entirely separate basins – the oldest pre-dates the Grampian assembly of the Laurentian margin, and the younger, the Northern Belt Basin sensu stricto, entirely post-dates this event

The Symposium began with the galactic diffusion radiation both because of its importance in studying galactic cosmic rays, galactic structure, and dynamic balance, and because an understanding of its characteristics is important in the study of galactic sources. The galactic objects to be reviewed included pulsars, bursts, solar flares, and other galactic sources of several types. The symposium papers then proceeded outward from the Milky Way to normal galaxies, active galaxies, and the extragalactic diffuse radiation

    Fourteen experienced users of two commercial spreadsheet packages, Lotus 123 and Multiplan, performed four tasks - two of entering spreadsheets and two of modifying those same spreadsheets. Their actions were videotaped and analyzed for incidents of errors. Over 450 errors were made, the majority of them centered around the visual properties of the spreadsheet packages. A classification of the errors is presented with an analysis of the causes governing the production of the errors. A discussion of the choices in the design of the interface which facilitated the production of these errors is also presented.Information Systems Working Papers Serie

    The Clustering Of Galaxies Around Radio-Loud AGNs

    We examine the hypothesis that mergers and close encounters between galaxies can fuel AGNs by increasing the rate at which gas accretes towards the central black hole. We compare the clustering of galaxies around radio-loud AGNs with the clustering around a population of radio-quiet galaxies with similar masses, colors and luminosities. Our catalog contains 2178 elliptical radio galaxies with flux densities greater than 2.8 mJy at 1.4 GHz from the 6dFGS survey. We find that radio AGNs with more than 200 times the median radio power have, on average, more close (r<160 kpc) companions than their radio-quiet counterparts, suggestive that mergers play a role in forming the most powerful radio galaxies. For ellipticals of fixed stellar mass, the radio power is not a function of large-scale environment nor halo mass, consistent with the radio powers of ellipticals varying by orders of magnitude over billions of years.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure

    Numerous software products claiming to improve work group productivity are making their way into the marketplace. How is a manager to decide whether or not to invest in these products? This paper proposes a suitable method of formulating the evaluation problem for work group application products. The issue of normal software evaluation is considered first. Then group work is described and contrasted with individual work activities. A two-level evaluation strategy consisting of broad coverage and detailed analysis is introduced. Detailed analysis consists of functional performance, administration, and fit applied across task, group and communications domains.     Evaluation of Infrared-Sensitive Film for Determination of Spectral Quality within a Forest Canopy

    Author Institution: Department of Biological Sciences, Bowling Green State UniversityKodak Ektachrome Infrared film was evaluated in terms of its potential use for qualitative spectral information on solar radiation within plant canopies. It was found that an exposure rating of 125 (ASA) provides properly exposed images using through-the-lens metering, with infrared images of forest species in shaded areas appearing deep red (as these species reflect strongly in the infrared), while images of sunfleck illuminated species appear yellow because they reflect in the green spectral region. Infrared color film serves as an inexpensive means of supplementing spectroradiomctric analysis of light within canopy systems, and provides semi-qualitative information about the source of radiation of a particular wave-length. The major limitation observed was the film's tendency to form numerous colors which, in effect, masked the primary colors
