Bending strain-tunable magnetic anisotropy in Co2FeAl Heusler thin film on Kapton
Bending effect on the magnetic anisotropy in 20 nm CoFeAl Heusler thin
film grown on Kapton\textregistered{} has been studied by ferromagnetic
resonance and glued on curved sample carrier with various radii. The results
reported in this letter show that the magnetic anisotropy is drastically
changed in this system by bending the thin films. This effect is attributed to
the interfacial strain transmission from the substrate to the film and to the
magnetoelastic behavior of the CoFeAl film. Moreover two approaches to
determine the in-plane magnetostriction coefficient of the film, leading to a
value that is close to , have been proposed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Ternary Syndrome Decoding with Large Weight
The Syndrome Decoding problem is at the core of many code-based
cryptosystems. In this paper, we study ternary Syndrome Decoding in large
weight. This problem has been introduced in the Wave signature scheme but has
never been thoroughly studied. We perform an algorithmic study of this problem
which results in an update of the Wave parameters. On a more fundamental level,
we show that ternary Syndrome Decoding with large weight is a really harder
problem than the binary Syndrome Decoding problem, which could have several
applications for the design of code-based cryptosystems
Efficiency of Traditional Maize Storage and Control Methods in Rural Grain Granaries: a Case Study from Senegal
Maize storage and pest control method as practiced in traditional clay granaries in the Kédougou region in eastern Senegal were evaluated under rural conditions during two successive years. Three storage modes, i.e. maize cobs, winnowed and non-winnowed maize grains, were tested in seven granaries where the insecticidal plants Hyptis spicigera or H. suaveolens were either incorporated in the store structure or deposited as layers intermittently with maize. At the beginning of the storage period, all granaries were artificially infested with 7 pairs Tribolium castaneum and Sitophilus zeamais. No damage, losses or live insects were observed during 7 months of storage when maize cobs were placed between layers of H. spicigera. Compared with the control, incorporation of insecticidal plants within the granary bottom had no significant effect on the damage and loss level irrespective of the storage mode. Non-winnowed maize always suffered less damage and losses than the winnowed variant. In all granaries depredation, insect abundance and moisture content were highest toward the end of storage period between June and July

Correlated Strength in Nuclear Spectral Function
We have carried out an (e,e'p) experiment at high momentum transfer and in
parallel kinematics to measure the strength of the nuclear spectral function
S(k,E) at high nucleon momenta k and large removal energies E. This strength is
related to the presence of short-range and tensor correlations, and was known
hitherto only indirectly and with considerable uncertainty from the lack of
strength in the independent-particle region. This experiment confirms by direct
measurement the correlated strength predicted by theory.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. Let
Village Baseline Study: Site Analysis Report for Kaffrine – Kaffrine, Senegal
The village baseline study of Toune Mosquée village in the CCAFS benchmark site Kaffrine in Senegal took place from June 2 to 4, 2011. Natural resources in the village are in a progressive state of degradation. The ‘protected’ forest has almost disappeared, the soils have low fertility and are degraded, and crop production is not sufficient to meet the food needs of a family throughout the year. Families must buy food to fill the gap in production. For that they harvest and sell forest products, which creates a vicious cycle of resource degradation.
The male and female groups identified 35 organisations operating in the village including informal groups, state services, associations, NGOs and Muslim brotherhoods. While 18 of those work on food security issues, only 4 are involved in the management and protection of natural resources. Very few agricultural extension and training opportunities target women despite the women’s significant role in agriculture and livestock production.
Women obtain information on livestock feeding techniques from people and organisations such as the horticultural project, women’s associations, and water and forest services. Men get information on soil inputs and soil fertility management from other farmers, organisations, radio and television, and from community leaders, notably the office of the village chief and the mosque on Fridays. The radio is the form of media most commonly used by the women but few women own a radio
Phenomenology of the Deuteron Electromagnetic Form Factors
A rigorous extraction of the deuteron charge form factors from tensor
polarization data in elastic electron-deuteron scattering, at given values of
the 4-momentum transfer, is presented. Then the world data for elastic
electron-deuteron scattering is used to parameterize, in three different ways,
the three electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron in the 4-momentum
transfer range 0-7 fm^-1. This procedure is made possible with the advent of
recent polarization measurements. The parameterizations allow a
phenomenological characterization of the deuteron electromagnetic structure.
They can be used to remove ambiguities in the form factors extraction from
future polarization data.Comment: 18 pages (LaTeX), 2 figures Feb. 25: minor changes of content and in
