The Evidence for a Pentaquark Signal and Kinematic Reflections
Several recent experiments have reported evidence for a narrow baryon
resonance with positive strangeness () at a mass of 1.54 GeV/.
Baryons with cannot be conventional states and the reports have
thus generated much theoretical speculation about the nature of possible
baryons, including a 5-quark, or pentaquark, interpretation. We show that
narrow enhancements in the effective mass spectrum can be generated as
kinematic reflections resulting from the decay of mesons, such as the

BACKGROUND Associations between acute respiratory inflammatory responses, changes in bronchial hyperresponsiveness, serum pneumoprotein levels, and exposure to fire smoke were studied. METHODS The study comprised 51 firefighters. Blood samples were taken within 24 hr following exposure to fire smoke, and after a week and 3 months. Sputum was induced within 5 days post-exposure and subjects underwent spirometry and methacholine provocation one week post-exposure. Exposure was registered by a questionnaire. RESULTS No changes were observed following smoke exposure in bronchial hyperresponsiveness and serum pneumoprotein levels. Nevertheless, in a sizable proportion of the firefighters (44%) elevated sputum neutrophil levels (≥60%) were found. Serum IL-8 concentrations were higher 24 hr post-exposure compared to pre-exposure. Elevated neutrophil levels in sputum were associated with elevated serum IL-8 (β = 0.010, P = 0.004) and TNFα (β = 0.005, P = 0.034) levels within 24 hr post-exposure and IL-8 elevation lasted up to 3 months. CONCLUSIONS Acute exposure to fire smoke induces acute neutrophilic airway and long-lasting systemic inflammation in healthy firefighters in the absence of bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Am. J. Ind. Level-3 Calorimetric Resolution available for the Level-1 and Level-2 CDF Triggers
As the Tevatron luminosity increases sophisticated selections are required to
be efficient in selecting rare events among a very huge background. To cope
with this problem, CDF has pushed the offline calorimeter algorithm
reconstruction resolution up to Level 2 and, when possible, even up to Level 1,
increasing efficiency and, at the same time, keeping under control the rates.
The CDF Run II Level 2 calorimeter trigger is implemented in hardware and is
based on a simple algorithm that was used in Run I. This system has worked well
for Run II at low luminosity. As the Tevatron instantaneous luminosity
increases, the limitation due to this simple algorithm starts to become clear:
some of the most important jet and MET (Missing ET) related triggers have large
growth terms in cross section at higher luminosity. In this paper, we present
an upgrade of the Level 2 Calorimeter system which makes the calorimeter
trigger tower information available directly to a CPU allowing more
sophisticated algorithms to be implemented in software. Both Level 2 jets and
MET can be made nearly equivalent to offline quality, thus significantly
improving the performance and flexibility of the jet and MET related triggers.
However in order to fully take advantage of the new L2 triggering capabilities
having at Level 1 the same L2 MET resolution is necessary. The new Level-1 MET
resolution is calculated by dedicated hardware. This paper describes the

Safety and pharmacokinetics of MM-302, a HER2-targeted antibody–liposomal doxorubicin conjugate, in patients with advanced HER2-positive breast cancer: A phase 1 dose-escalation study
BackgroundThis phase 1 dose-escalation trial studied MM-302, a novel HER2-targeted PEGylated antibody-liposomal doxorubicin conjugate, in HER2-positive locally advanced/metastatic breast cancer.MethodsPatients were enrolled in four cohorts: MM-302 monotherapy (8, 16, 30, 40, and 50 mg/m2 every 4 weeks [q4w]); MM-302 (30 or 40 mg/m2 q4w) plus trastuzumab (4 mg/kg q2w); MM-302 (30 mg/m2) plus trastuzumab (6 mg/kg) q3w; MM-302 (30 mg/m2) plus trastuzumab (6 mg/kg) and cyclophosphamide (450 mg/m2) q3w.ResultsSixty-nine patients were treated. The most common adverse events (AEs) were fatigue and nausea. Grade 3/4 AEs of special interest included neutropenia, fatigue, mucosal inflammation, anemia, thrombocytopenia, febrile neutropenia, and palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia. The MTD was not reached. With MM-302 ≥ 30 mg/m2, overall response rate (ORR) was 13% and median progression-free survival (mPFS) 7.4 months (95% CI: 3·5-10·9) in all arms. In 25 anthracycline-naïve patients, ORR was 28·0% and mPFS 10·9 months (95% CI: 1·8-15·3). Imaging with 64Cu-labeled MM-302 visualized tumor-drug penetrance in tumors throughout the body, including the brain.ConclusionMM-302 monotherapy, in combination with trastuzumab, or trastuzumab plus cyclophosphamide, was well tolerated and showed promising efficacy. Physics at a Neutrino Factory
In response to the growing interest in building a Neutrino Factory to produce
high intensity beams of electron- and muon-neutrinos and antineutrinos, in
October 1999 the Fermilab Directorate initiated two six-month studies. The
first study, organized by N. Holtkamp and D. Finley, was to investigate the
technical feasibility of an intense neutrino source based on a muon storage
ring. This design study has produced a report in which the basic conclusion is
that a Neutrino Factory is technically feasible, although it requires an
aggressive R&D program. The second study, which is the subject of this report,
was to explore the physics potential of a Neutrino Factory as a function of the
muon beam energy and intensity, and for oscillation physics, the potential as a

Braided racks, Hurwitz actions and Nichols algebras with many cubic relations
We classify Nichols algebras of irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld modules over
groups such that the underlying rack is braided and the homogeneous component
of degree three of the Nichols algebra satisfies a given inequality. This
assumption turns out to be equivalent to a factorization assumption on the
Hilbert series. Besides the known Nichols algebras we obtain a new example. Our
method is based on a combinatorial invariant of the Hurwitz orbits with respect

Measurement of the lifetime of the B_c meson in the semileptonic decay channel
Using approximately 1.3 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector between
2002 and 2006, we measure the lifetime of the B_c meson in the B_c -> J/psi mu
nu X final state. A simultaneous unbinned likelihood fit to the J/\psi+mu
invariant mass and lifetime distributions yields a signal of 881 +/- 80 (stat)
candidates and a lifetime measurement of \tau(B_c) = 0.448 +0.038 -0.036 (stat)

Search for Yukawa Production of a Light Neutral Higgs Boson at LEP
Within a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) a search for a light Higgs boson in
the mass range of 4-12 GeV has been performed in the Yukawa process e+e- -> b
bbar A/h -> b bbar tau+tau-, using the data collected by the OPAL detector at
LEP between 1992 and 1995 in e+e- collisions at about 91 GeV centre-of-mass
energy. A likelihood selection is applied to separate background and signal.
The number of observed events is in good agreement with the expected
background. Within a CP-conserving 2HDM type II model the cross-section for
Yukawa production depends on xiAd = |tan beta| and xihd = |sin alpha/cos beta|
for the production of the CP-odd A and the CP-even h, respectively, where tan
beta is the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the Higgs doublets and
alpha is the mixing angle between the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons. From our
data 95% C.L. upper limits are derived for xiAd within the range of 8.5 to 13.6
and for xihd between 8.2 to 13.7, depending on the mass of the Higgs boson,
assuming a branching fraction into tau+tau- of 100%. An interpretation of the
limits within a 2HDM type II model with Standard Model particle content is
given. These results impose constraints on several models that have been
proposed to explain the recent BNL measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic
