All the shapes of spaces: a census of small 3-manifolds
In this work we present a complete (no misses, no duplicates) census for
closed, connected, orientable and prime 3-manifolds induced by plane graphs
with a bipartition of its edge set (blinks) up to edges. Blinks form a
universal encoding for such manifolds. In fact, each such a manifold is a
subtle class of blinks, \cite{lins2013B}. Blinks are in 1-1 correpondence with
{\em blackboard framed links}, \cite {kauffman1991knots, kauffman1994tlr} We
hope that this census becomes as useful for the study of concrete examples of

Characterization of a two-transmon processor with individual single-shot qubit readout
We report the characterization of a two-qubit processor implemented with two
capacitively coupled tunable superconducting qubits of the transmon type, each
qubit having its own non-destructive single-shot readout. The fixed capacitive
coupling yields the \sqrt{iSWAP} two-qubit gate for a suitable interaction
time. We reconstruct by state tomography the coherent dynamics of the two-bit
register as a function of the interaction time, observe a violation of the Bell
inequality by 22 standard deviations after correcting readout errors, and
measure by quantum process tomography a gate fidelity of 90%
The IkB kinase inhibitor nuclear factor-kB essential modulator–binding domain peptide for inhibition of balloon injury-induced neointimal formation
Objective—The activation of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) is a crucial step in the arterial wall’s response to injury. The
identification and characterization of the NF-kB essential modulator– binding domain (NBD) peptide, which can block
the activation of the IkB kinase complex, have provided an opportunity to selectively abrogate the inflammation-induced
activation of NF-kB. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the NBD peptide on neointimal
formation.<br></br>
Methods and Results—In the rat carotid artery balloon angioplasty model, local treatment with the NBD peptide (300
microg/site) significantly reduced the number of proliferating cells at day 7 (by 40%; P<0.01) and reduced injury-induced neointimal formation (by 50%; P<0.001) at day 14. These effects were associated with a significant reduction of NF-kB activation and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 expression in the carotid arteries of rats treated with the peptide. In addition, the NBD peptide (0.01 to 1 micromol/L) reduced rat smooth muscle cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in
vitro. Similar results were observed in apolipoprotein E-/-, mice in which the NBD peptide (150 microg/site) reduced wire-induced neointimal formation at day 28 (by 47%; P<0.01).<br></br>
Conclusion—The NBD peptide reduces neointimal formation and smooth muscle cell proliferation/migration, both effects
associated with the inhibition of NF-kB activation
Soft tissue regeneration using leukocyte-platelet rich fibrin after exeresis of hyperplastic gingival lesions: Two case reports
Introduction
The Leukocyte-PRF (Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin) belongs to a second generation of platelet concentrates which doesn’t need a biochemical blood manipulation. It is used for tissue healing and regeneration in periodontal and oral-maxillofacial surgery. We report two cases of hyperplastic gingival lesions treated by exeresis and application of PRF membranes in order to improve and accelerate tissue healing.
Case Presentation
Two patients (one Caucasian female, 78-year-old, and one Caucasian male, 30-year-old) were treated for hyperplastic gingival lesions. They underwent to exeresis of lesions and application of PRF membranes. Tissue healing was clinically evaluated after one, three, seven, fourteen and thirty post-operative days. No recurrences were observed after two years of semiannual follow up.
Conclusion
We obtained rapid and good healing of soft tissues probably due to the elevated content of leukocytes, platelets and growth factors in the leukocyte-platelet rich fibrin. According to our results we suggest L-PRF employment for wounds covering after exeresis of oral neoformations such as hyperplastic gingival lesions
Quality of life in alopecia areata: A disease-specific questionnaire
Background Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease affecting about 2% of the population, which has a considerable impact on quality of life (QoL). There are no disease-specific questionnaires to assess QoL in patients suffering from AA. Objective To validate a new disease-specific questionnaire for AA, named AA-QLI, and to compare the consequent Quality of Life Index (QLI) with the commonly known Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) to verify if it can provide a more comprehensive tool for patients. Methods A total of 50 patients affected by AA were administered both the AA-QLI, created by us, and the well-known DLQI. With the aim to detect suitable QLI, we propose to use two multivariate analyses: a principal component analysis approach on the data collected with both questionnaires to compare their capability to measure the QoL; a structural equation modelling on our AA-QLI to identify which category of symptoms mostly affects the QoL. Results The scores of both the questionnaires are quite close, except for a few cases. Statistical analysis shows a higher specificity of the AA-QLI for evaluating QoL. Among the three areas in which AA-QLI is divided, 'Relationship' has a major impact on the QLI, followed by 'Subjective symptoms'; 'Objective signs' has a lower weight on the QLI. Conclusion AA-QLI is a good instrument to evaluate the real impact of AA on QoL. It can be helpful both for the physician and for the patient. © 2012 European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology
Application of Renormalization to Potential Scattering
A recently proposed renormalization scheme can be used to deal with
nonrelativistic potential scattering exhibiting ultraviolet divergence in
momentum space. A numerical application of this scheme is made in the case of
potential scattering with divergence for small r, common in molecular
and nuclear physics, by the use of cut-offs in momentum and configuration
spaces. The cut-off is finally removed in terms of a physical observable and
model-independent result is obtained at low energies. The expected variation of
the off-shell behavior of the t matrix arising from the renormalization scheme

Triple positive breast cancer. A distinct subtype?
Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease, and within the HER-2 positive subtype this is highly exemplified by the presence of substantial phenotypical and clinical heterogeneity, mostly related to hormonal receptor (HR) expression. It is well known how HER-2 positivity is commonly associated with a more aggressive tumor phenotype and decreased overall survival and, moreover, with a reduced benefit from endocrine treatment. Preclinical studies corroborate the role played by functional crosstalks between HER-2 and estrogen receptor (ER) signaling in endocrine resistance and, more recently, the activation of ER signaling is emerging as a possible mechanism of resistance to HER-2 blocking agents. Indeed, HER-2 positive breast cancer heterogeneity has been suggested to underlie the variability of response not only to endocrine treatments, but also to HER-2 blocking agents. Among HER-2 positive tumors, HR status probably defines two distinct subtypes, with dissimilar clinical behavior and different sensitivity to anticancer agents. The triple positive subtype, namely, ER/PgR/Her-2 positive tumors, could be considered the subset which most closely resembles the HER-2 negative/HR positive tumors, with substantial differences in biology and clinical outcome. We argue on whether in this subgroup the "standard" treatment may be considered, in selected cases, i.e., small tumors, low tumor burden, high expression of both hormonal receptors, an overtreatment.
