    Remarks on non-gaussian fluctuations of the inflaton and constancy of \zeta outside the horizon

    We point out that the non-gaussianity arising from cubic self interactions of the inflaton field is proportional to \xi N_e where \xi ~ V"' and N_e is the number of e-foldings from horizon exit till the end of inflation. For scales of interest N_e = 60, and for models of inflation such as new inflation, natural inflation and running mass inflation \xi is large compared to the slow roll parameter \epsilon ~ V'^{2}. Therefore the contribution from self interactions should not be outrightly ignored while retaining other terms in the non-gaussianity parameter f_{NL}. But the N_e dependent term seems to imply the growth of non-gaussianities outside the horizon. Therefore we briefly discuss the issue of the constancy of correlations of the curvature perturbation \zeta outside the horizon. We then calculate the 3-point function of the inflaton fluctuations using the canonical formalism and further obtain the 3-point function of \zeta_k. We find that the N_e dependent contribution to f_{NL} from self interactions of the inflaton field is cancelled by contributions from other terms associated with non-linearities in cosmological perturbation theory.Comment: 16 pages, Minor changes, matches the published version. v3: Minor typo correcte

    Tunable temperature induced magnetization jump in a GdVO3 single crystal

    We report a novel feature of the temperature induced magnetization jump observed along the a-axis of the GdVO3 single crystal at temperature TM = 0.8 K. Below TM, the compound shows no coercivity and remanent magnetization indicating a homogenous antiferromagnetic structure. However, we will demonstrate that the magnetic state below TM is indeed history dependent and it shows up in different jumps in the magnetization only when warming the sample through TM. Such a magnetic memory effect is highly unusual and suggesting different domain arrangements in the supposedly homogenous antiferromagnetic phase of the compound.Comment: 17 pages, 8 Figure

Reactivity tests on the extruded coal showed overall conversion to gases and liquids unchanged from that of the raw coal.     A percolation model is presented, with computer simulations for illustrations, to show how the sales of a new product may penetrate the consumer market. We review the traditional approach in the marketing literature, which is based on differential or difference equations similar to the logistic equation (Bass 1969). This mean field approach is contrasted with the discrete percolation on a lattice, with simulations of "social percolation" (Solomon et al 2000) in two to five dimensions giving power laws instead of exponential growth, and strong fluctuations right at the percolation threshold.Comment: to appear in Physica

    Multidimensional Binary Vector Assignment problem: standard, structural and above guarantee parameterizations

    In this article we focus on the parameterized complexity of the Multidimensional Binary Vector Assignment problem (called \BVA). An input of this problem is defined by mm disjoint sets V1,V2,,VmV^1, V^2, \dots, V^m, each composed of nn binary vectors of size pp. An output is a set of nn disjoint mm-tuples of vectors, where each mm-tuple is obtained by picking one vector from each set ViV^i. To each mm-tuple we associate a pp dimensional vector by applying the bit-wise AND operation on the mm vectors of the tuple. The objective is to minimize the total number of zeros in these nn vectors. mBVA can be seen as a variant of multidimensional matching where hyperedges are implicitly locally encoded via labels attached to vertices, but was originally introduced in the context of integrated circuit manufacturing. We provide for this problem FPT algorithms and negative results (ETHETH-based results, WW[2]-hardness and a kernel lower bound) according to several parameters: the standard parameter kk i.e. the total number of zeros), as well as two parameters above some guaranteed values.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure

    Dark Energy and the Statistical Study of the Observed Image Separations of the Multiply Imaged Systems in the CLASS Statistical Sample

    The present day observations favour a universe which is flat, accelerated and composed of 1/3\sim 1/3 matter (baryonic + dark) and 2/3\sim 2/3 of a negative pressure component, usually referred to as dark energy or quintessence. The Cosmic Lens All Sky Survey (CLASS), the largest radio-selected galactic mass scale gravitational lens search project to date, has resulted in the largest sample suitable for statistical analyses. In the work presented here, we exploit observed image separations of the multiply imaged lensed radio sources in the sample. We use two different tests: (1) image separation distribution function n(Δθ)n(\Delta\theta) of the lensed radio sources and (2) {\dtheta}_{\mathrm{pred}} vs {\dtheta}_{\mathrm{obs}} as observational tools to constrain the cosmological parameters ww and \Om.
