Random Vibrations of Nonlinear Continua Endowed with Fractional Derivative Elements
In this paper, two techniques are proposed for determining the large displacement statistics of random exciting continua endowed with fractional derivative elements: Boundary Element Method (BEM) based Monte Carlo simulation; and Statistical Linearization (SL). The techniques are applied to the problem of nonlinear beam and plate random response determination in the case of colored random external load. The BEM is implemented in conjunction with a Newmark scheme for estimating the system response in the time domain in conjunction with repeated simulations, while SL is used for estimating efficiently and directly, albeit iteratively, the response statistics
Structuring and support by Alfven waves around prestellar cores
Observations of molecular clouds show the existence of starless, dense cores,
threaded by magnetic fields. Observed line widths indicate these dense
condensates to be embedded in a supersonically turbulent environment. Under
these conditions, the generation of magnetic waves is inevitable. In this
paper, we study the structure and support of a 1D plane-parallel,
self-gravitating slab, as a monochromatic, circularly polarized Alfven wave is
injected in its central plane. Dimensional analysis shows that the solution
must depend on three dimensionless parameters. To study the nonlinear,
turbulent evolution of such a slab, we use 1D high resolution numerical
simulations. For a parameter range inspired by molecular cloud observations, we
find the following. 1) A single source of energy injection is sufficient to
force persistent supersonic turbulence over several hydrostatic scale heights.
2) The time averaged spatial extension of the slab is comparable to the
extension of the stationary, analytical WKB solution. Deviations, as well as
the density substructure of the slab, depend on the wave-length of the injected
wave. 3) Energy losses are dominated by loss of Poynting-flux and increase with
increasing plasma beta. 4) Good spatial resolution is mandatory, making similar
simulations in 3D currently prohibitively expensive.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in A&A. The manuscript

Conclusion The results of this study there was a significant relationship between response time nurses with patient satisfaction, the faster the response time nurses more satisfied patients, and vice versa when the nurse slow response time increasingly dissatisfied patients
A weakly nonlinear Alfvénic pulse in a transversely inhomogeneous medium
The interaction of a weakly nonlinear Alfvénic pulse with an Alfvén speed inhomogeneity in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field is investigated. Identical to the phase mixing experienced by a harmonic Alfvén wave, sharp transverse gradients are generated in the pulse by the inhomogeneity. In the initial stage of the evolution of an initially plane Alfvénic pulse, the transverse gradients efficiently generate transversely propagating fast magnetoacoustic waves. However, high resolution full MHD numerical simulations of the developed stage of the pulse evolution show that the generation saturates due to destructive wave interference. It is shown that the weakly non-linear description of the generated fast magnetoacoustic wave is well described by the driven wave equation proposed in Nakariakov et al. (1997), and a simple numerical code (2D MacCromack), which solves it with minimal CPU resources, produces identical results to those obtained from the full MHD code (Lare2d, Arber et al. 2001). A parametric study of the phenomenon is undertaken, showing that, contrary to one's expectations, steeper inhomogeneities of the Alfvén speed do not produce higher saturation levels of the fast wave generation. There is a certain optimal gradient of the inhomogeneity that ensures the maximal efficiency of the fast wave generation
