Parametric resonance and spin-charge separation in 1D fermionic systems
We show that the periodic modulation of the Hamiltonian parameters for 1D
correlated fermionic systems can be used to parametrically amplify their
bosonic collective modes. Treating the problem within the Luttinger liquid
picture, we show how charge and spin density waves with different momenta are
simultaneously amplified. We discuss the implementation of our predictions for
cold atoms in 1D modulated optical lattices, showing that the fermionic
momentum distribution directly provides a clear signature of spin-charge
separation.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, published versio
Supporting the active learning of collaborative database browsing techniques
We describe the implications of a study of database browsing behaviour for the development of a system to support more effective browsing. In particular we consider the importance of collaborative working, both in learning browsing skills and in co‐operating on a shared information‐retrieval task. From our study, we believe that an interface to support collaboration should promote the awareness of the activities of others, better visualization of the information data structures being browsed, and effective communication of the browsing process
A framework for P2P application development
Although Peer-to-Peer (P2P) computing has become increasingly popular over recent years, there still exist only a very small number of application domains that have exploited it on a large scale. This can be attributed to a number of reasons including the rapid evolution of P2P technologies, coupled with their often-complex nature. This paper describes an implemented abstraction framework that seeks to aid developers in building P2P applications. A selection of example P2P applications that have been developed using this framework are also presented
Macroscopic fluctuations theory of aerogel dynamics
We consider the thermodynamic potential describing the macroscopic
fluctuation of the current and local energy of a general class of Hamiltonian
models including aerogels. We argue that this potential is neither analytic nor
strictly convex, a property that should be expected in general but missing from
models studied in the literature. This opens the possibility of describing in
terms of a thermodynamic potential non-equilibrium phase transitions in a
concrete physical context. This special behaviour of the thermodynamic
potential is caused by the fact that the energy current is carried by particles
which may have arbitrary low speed with sufficiently large probability.Comment: final versio
Perilaku Petugas Kesehatan dalam Penanganan Limbah Medis di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Ulin Banjarmasin
Hospital waste is an invaluable, unusable and expelled material, which is divided into medical and non medical waste. It is also categorized as radiology, infectious and common solid or domestic waste. (Health Department of Indonesia, 1992). As a public health service, hospital always produces medical or non-medical waste such as clinic, pathology and radioactive waste. It has been organized well according to the rules on health law. Remember that these are dangerous and causing infections, pollution of water, air and soil, accident factor and aesthetics problem. It is purposed to mark the knowledge, attitude and act of health officers on solving medical waste problem in order to know the relation between the predisposition factors (education, year of work, knowledge and attitude), motivating factors (hospital policy, employers motivation) and supporting factors (facilities, information) with the health officers' attitude on solving medical waste problem, as advices for RSUD Ulin, Banjarmasin, in order to develop the quality on giving services. Those things are profitable to compare the medical waste problem solving with the law. Knowledge, attitude and act of the RSUD Ulin health officers are appraised well.- There is significant relation between variable (education, knowledge, attitude and facilities providing) with an action of health officer on solving medical waste problem.- There is no significant relation between the year of work variable, hospital policy, motivation and information with the attitude of health officers on solving medical waste problem. The RSUD Ulin organizers have to relocate and rearrange the place to throw away the medical waste according to the standard health requirements, organizing standard code, standard procedures, socializing the health officers, patient and their family, visitor and people around the hospital trough available media networks
Experimental evaluation of heat transfer coefficient for nanofluids
This paper was presented at the 4th Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2014), which was held at University College, London, UK. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Italian Union of Thermofluiddynamics, IPEM, the Process Intensification Network, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Heat Transfer Society, HEXAG - the Heat Exchange Action Group, and the Energy Institute, ASME Press, LCN London Centre for Nanotechnology, UCL University College London, UCL Engineering, the International NanoScience Community, www.nanopaprika.eu.The paper reports the results of heat transfer experimental tests on nanofluids. Measurements were
performed in a two-loop test rig for immediate comparison of the thermal performances of the nanofluid with
the base-fluid. The convective heat transfer was evaluated in a circular pipe heated with uniform heat flux
and with flow regimes from laminar to turbulent. Tests have been performed to compare the heat transfer
capability of nanofluids and water at the same velocity or Reynolds number , and they have been compared
with values calculated from widely used correlations. In particular ten different nanofluids and three base
fluids (in addition to the water) have been used.
The analysis of the experimental data shows a different behavior depending on the parameter used in the
comparison, and, as a consequence, the addition of nanoparticles to the heat transfer fluid can result
advantageous or not, depending on the specific point of view. Furthermore some classical correlations have
been used to estimate the heat transfer coefficients, and the analysis shows that they are able to provide good
agreement with the experimental data both for the nanofluid and water
Flexural phonons in free-standing graphene
Rotation and reflection symmetries impose that out-of-plane (flexural)
phonons of free-standing graphene membranes have a quadratic dispersion at long
wavelength and can be excited by charge carriers in pairs only. As a result, we
find that flexural phonons dominate the phonon contribution to the resistivity
below a crossover temperature T_x where we obtain an anomalous
temperature dependence . The logarithmic factor
arises from renormalizations of the flexural phonon dispersion due to coupling
between bending and stretching degrees of freedom of the membrane.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Mangosteen Extract Shows a Potent Insulin Sensitizing Effect in Obese Female Patients: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Pilot Study.
There is a widely acknowledged association between insulin resistance and obesity/type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and insulin sensitizing treatments have proved effective in preventing diabetes and inducing weight loss. Obesity and T2DM are also associated with increased inflammation. Mangosteen is a tropical tree, whose fruits—known for their antioxidant properties—have been recently suggested having a possible further role in the treatment of obesity and T2DM. The objective of this pilot study has been to evaluate safety and efficacy of treatment with mangosteen extract on insulin resistance, weight management, and inflammatory status in obese female patients with insulin resistance. Twenty-two patients were randomized 1:1 to behavioral therapy alone or behavioral therapy and mangosteen and 20 completed the 26-week study. The mangosteen group reported a significant improvement in insulin sensitivity (homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance, HOMA-IR −53.22% vs. −15.23%, p = 0.004), and no side effect attributable to treatment was reported. Given the positive preliminary results we report and the excellent safety profile, we suggest a possible supplementary role of mangosteen extracts in the treatment of obesity, insulin resistance, and inflammation
Perlindungan Hukum terhadap Rekam Medis Pasien di Rumah Sakit
Patient as consumers of health service have rights one of the rights is the state of the patients health is being concealed forever including medical data and medical records. Regarding to that, hospital as the health care provider obliged to provide legal protection to all kind of information in the medical record to the possibility of loss of information, data falsification or used by the undue. Based on that, the problem to be studied is: how is the medical record management in the hospital? And how is the medical record legal protection, which is given by the hospital? This study use normative legal research with statue approach. All of the legal resources based on library research and supported by primary and secondary legal material. Legal research analysis technique in this study use descriptive technique. The study result showed that the medical record management in the hospital have to based on health minister regulation 269/MENKES/PER/III/2008 about medical records. The management of medical record started from the time patient came to the hospital with record all action that given to the patient until all the treatment completed. The data and information on the medical record, hospital has an obligation of giving legal protection about the confidentiality based on Articles 10 health minister regulation 269/MENKES/PER/III/2008 with form of preventive and repressive protection
