Schistosome-induced portacaval haemodynamic changes in Rattus rattus are associated with translocation of adult worms to the lungs
The presence of naturally portacaval shunts has been investigated in the vasculature of normal and Schistosoma mansoni-infected Rattus rattus. Using the technique of injecting Polystyrene microspheres in the superior mesenteric vein, we demonstrated that the presence of adult schistosomes in the lungs of R. rattus was not due to an innate anomaly of the rat vasculature but resulted from the formation of portacaval shunts during infection. In rats harbouring a bisexual infection, microspheres were only detected in the lungs from week 7. The development and increasing size of the shunts were maximal between weeks 7 and 10 and coincident with the translocation of adult worms from the portal tract to the lungs. At weeks 20–25, only 1–2% of the microspheres were recovered from the lungs, suggesting that the portacaval anastomoses have regressed due to reduction in portal hypertension after worm translocation. R. rattus with a male-only schistosome infection harboured adult worms in the lungs, indicating that the development of shunts does not solely depend upon egg deposition in the liver to generate hypertension. The relationships between the presence of the schistosomes in the lungs, the portacaval shunting and the resistance to reinfection is discussed

Why should I attend? The value of business networking events
Despite an increasing variety of technological means enabling business people to exchange information without ever meeting in person, the events industry continues to grow. To help to understand why this is, a study was conducted based on 35 in-depth interviews with attendees and event organizers. The findings highlight the main types of value individuals extracted and identify the implications for measurement practice for what, where, how and when to assess value. These insights can help in determining the ROI of networking events for businesses

Xeroderma pigmentosum group A protein loads as a separate factor onto DNA lesions
Nucleotide excision repair (NER) is the main DNA repair pathway in mammals for removal of UV-induced lesions. NER involves the concerted action of more than 25 polypeptides in a coordinated fashion. The xeroderma pigmentosum group A protein (XPA) has been suggested to function as a central organizer and damage verifier in NER. How XPA reaches DNA lesions and how the protein is distributed in time and space in living cells are unknown. Here we studied XPA in vivo by using a cell line stably expressing physiological levels of functional XPA fused to green fluorescent protein and by applying quantitative fluorescence microscopy. The majority of XPA moves rapidly through the nucleoplasm with a diffusion rate different from those of other NER factors tested, arguing against a preassembled XPA-containing NER complex. DNA damage induced a transient ( approximately 5-min) immobilization of maximally 30% of XPA. Immobilization depends on XPC, indicating that XPA is not the initial lesion recognition protein in vivo. Moreover, loading of replication protein A on NER lesions was not dependent on XPA. Thus, XPA participates in NER by incorporation of free diffusing molecules in XPC-dependent NER-DNA complexes. This study supports a model for a rapid consecutive assembly of free NER factors, and a relatively slow simultaneous disassembly, after repair
Virtual Theater
Exploring the advantages and disadvantages of arts organizations continuing to perform theater virtually. I will focus on if this form of performance will remain sustainable when all seats are able to be filled in a theater once again. This study can give insight into potential audience members perspectives and whether or not they deem these online performances to be satisfactory or not. In addition, it'll explain how theater companies are benefiting from streaming performances and help measure the financial success duirng and after the pandemic.Purchase College SUNYArts ManagementBachelor of ArtsAstor del Valle, Janis A

KONTRIBUSI DAN STRATEGI SEKTOR PERIKANAN DALAM MENINGKATKAN PENDAPATAN ASLI DAERAH DI KABUPATEN TIMOR TENGAH SELATAN
This research aims to determine how much the contribution of the fisheries sector to local own-source revenue and also to find out how to increase local revenue from the fisheries sector. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the contribution analysis and SWOT analysis. Contribution analysis used to find out how much the fisheries sector's contribution to Regional Original Income, SWOT analysis is used to find out how to increase local own-source revenue from the fisheries sector. Based on the data analysis conducted, it is concluded that: The contribution of the fisheries sector to local own-source revenue in 2015 was 0.0011%; in 2016 it increased to 0.0029% than in 2017 increased to 0.0032%. However, in 2018 it decreased to 0.0027%, but in 2019 it increased again to 0.0040%. Then from the SWOT analysis, the Regional Government of South Central Timor Regency can increase local own-source revenue from the fisheries sector by optimizing the available funds to cultivate a supportive geographic and training Human Resources to take advantage of market availability
Donning a New Approach to the Practice of Gastroenterology: Perspectives From the COVID-19 Pandemic Epicenter.
The COVID-19 pandemic seemingly is peaking now in New York City and has triggered significant changes to the standard management of gastrointestinal diseases. Priorities such as minimizing viral transmission, preserving personal protective equipment, and freeing hospital beds have driven unconventional approaches to managing gastroenterology (GI) patients. Conversion of endoscopy units to COVID units and redeployment of GI fellows and faculty has profoundly changed the profile of most GI services. Meanwhile, consult and procedural volumes have been reduced drastically. In this review, we share our collective experiences regarding how we have changed our practice of medicine in response to the COVID surge. Although we review our management of specific consults and conditions, the overarching theme focuses primarily on noninvasive measures and maximizing medical therapies. Endoscopic procedures have been reserved for those timely interventions that are most likely to be therapeutic. The role of multidisciplinary discussion, although always important, now has become critical. The support of our faculty and trainees remains essential. Local leadership can encourage well-being by frequent team check-ins and by fostering trainee development through remote learning. Advancing a clear vision and a transparent process for how to organize and triage care in the recovery phase will allow for a smooth transition to our new normal
Perspective on Coarse-Graining, Cognitive Load, and Materials Simulation
The predictive capabilities of computational materials science today derive from overlapping advances in simulation tools, modeling techniques, and best practices. We outline this ecosystem of molecular simulations by explaining how important contributions in each of these areas have fed into each other. The combined output of these tools, techniques, and practices is the ability for researchers to advance understanding by efficiently combining simple models with powerful software. As specific examples, we show how the prediction of organic photovoltaic morphologies have improved by orders of magnitude over the last decade, and how the processing of reacting epoxy thermosets can now be investigated with million-particle models. We discuss these two materials systems and the training of materials simulators through the lens of cognitive load theory.
For students, the broad view of ecosystem components should facilitate understanding how the key parts relate to each other first, followed by targeted exploration. In this way, the paper is organized in loose analogy to a coarse-grained model: The main components provide basic framing and accelerated sampling from which deeper research is better contextualized. For mentors, this paper is organized to provide a snapshot in time of the current simulation ecosystem and an on-ramp for simulation experts into the literature on pedagogical practice

Through SMEs, the community is expected to be able to empower all the resources they have to achieve prosperity. SMEs in the food sector are very high growth, SME capacity development needs to be improved, and food security issues need to be addressed.
