Industrial Parks in Russia: Conceptual Development of Projects
The paper presents a theoretical framework of industrial parks effectiveness as an element of economic policy to accelerate economy development in regions or municipalities. The article studies how historically such instruments were used in modern Russia. The paper states the necessity of extensive development of the industrial park concept and how it affects the chances of project realization and potential economic effectiveness. The main parts and blocks that should be taken into account during concept preparations are highlighted, and proposals for their content are made
Does the bracket-ligature combination affect the amount of orthodontic space closure over three months? A randomized controlled trial
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of bracket-ligature combination on the amount of orthodontic space closure over three months. DESIGN: Randomized clinical trial with three parallel groups. SETTING: A hospital orthodontic department (Chesterfield Royal Hospital, UK). PARTICIPANTS: Forty-five patients requiring upper first premolar extractions. METHODS: Informed consent was obtained and participants were randomly allocated into one of three groups: (1) conventional pre-adjusted edgewise brackets and elastomeric ligatures; (2) conventional pre-adjusted edgewise brackets and Super Slick((R)) low friction elastomeric ligatures; (3) Damon 3MX((R)) passive self-ligating brackets. Space closure was undertaken on 0.019x0.025-inch stainless steel archwires with nickel-titanium coil springs. Participants were recalled at four weekly intervals. Upper alginate impressions were taken at each visit (maximum three). The primary outcome measure was the mean amount of space closure in a 3-month period. RESULTS: A one-way ANOVA was undertaken [dependent variable: mean space closure (mm); independent variable: group allocation]. The amount of space closure was very similar between the three groups (1 mm per 28 days); however, there was a wide variation in the rate of space closure between individuals. The differences in the amount of space closure over three months between the three groups was very small and non-significant (P = 0.718). CONCLUSION: The hypothesis that reducing friction by modifying the bracket/ligature interface increases the rate of space closure was not supported. Midpalatal implants vs headgear for orthodontic anchorage - a randomized clinical trial: Cephalometric results
OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effectiveness of the mid-palatal implant as a method of reinforcing anchorage during orthodontic treatment with that of conventional extra-oral anchorage.
DESIGN: A prospective, randomized, clinical trial
Setting: Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital NHS Trust and the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: 51 orthodontic patients between the ages of 12 and 39, with a class II division 1 malocclusion and ‘absolute anchorage’ requirements were randomly allocated to either receive a mid-palatal implant or headgear to reinforce orthodontic anchorage. The main outcome of the trial was to compare the mesial movement of the molars and incisors of the two treatment groups between T1 (start) and T2 (end of anchorage reinforcement) as measured from cephalometric radiographs.
RESULTS: The reproducibility of the measuring technique was acceptable. There were significant differences between the T1 and T2 measurements within the implant group for the position of the maxillary central incisor (p<0.001), position of the maxillary molar (p=0.009) and position of the mandibular molar (p<0.001). There were significant differences within the headgear group for the position of the mandibular central incisor (p<0.045), position of the maxillary molar (p=<0.001) and position of the mandibular molar (p<0.001). All the skeletal and dental points moved mesially more in the headgear group during treatment than in the implant group. These ranged from an average of 0.5mm more mesial for the mandibular permanent molar to 1.5mm more mesial for the maxillary molar and mandibular base. None of the treatment changes between the implant and headgear groups were statistically significant.
CONCLUSIONS: Mid-palatal implants are an acceptable technique for reinforcing anchorage in the orthodontic patient

Enhanced Local Moment Formation in a Chiral Luttinger Liquid
We derive here a stability condition for a local moment in the presence of an
interacting sea of conduction electrons. The conduction electrons are modeled
as a Luttinger liquid in which chirality and spin are coupled. We show that an
Anderson-U defect in such an interacting system can be transformed onto a
nearly-Fermi liquid problem. We find that correlations among the conduction
electrons stabilize the local moment phase. A Schrieffer-Wolff transformation
is then performed which results in an anisotropic exchange interaction
indicative of the Kondo effect in a Luttinger liquid. The ground-state
properties of this model are then equivalent to those of the Kondo model in a

The tunnel magnetoresistance in chains of quantum dots weakly coupled to external leads
We analyze numerically the spin-dependent transport through coherent chains
of three coupled quantum dots weakly connected to external magnetic leads. In
particular, using the diagrammatic technique on the Keldysh contour, we
calculate the conductance, shot noise and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) in the
sequential and cotunneling regimes. We show that transport characteristics
greatly depend on the strength of the interdot Coulomb correlations, which
determines the spacial distribution of electron wave function in the chain.
When the correlations are relatively strong, depending on the transport regime,
we find both negative TMR as well as TMR enhanced above the Julliere value,
accompanied with negative differential conductance (NDC) and super-Poissonian
shot noise. This nontrivial behavior of tunnel magnetoresistance is associated
with selection rules that govern tunneling processes and various high-spin
states of the chain that are relevant for transport. For weak interdot
correlations, on the other hand, the TMR is always positive and not larger than
the Julliere TMR, although super-Poissonian shot noise and NDC can still be
observed
Andreev reflection in the fractional quantum Hall effect
We study the reflection of electrons and quasiparticles on point-contact
interfaces between fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states and normal metals
(leads), as well as interfaces between two FQH states with mismatched filling
fractions. We classify the processes taking place at the interface in the
strong coupling limit. In this regime a set of quasiparticles can decay into
quasiholes on the FQH side and charge excitations on the other side of the
junction. This process is analogous to an Andreev reflection in

Growth-related profiles of remanent flux in bulk melt-textured YBaCuO crystal magnetized by pulsed fields
We have studied the remanent magnetic flux distribution in bulk melt-textured
YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) crystals after their magnetization in quasi-static and pulsed
magnetic fields up to 6T. It has been shown that, provided that the magnetic
pulse is sharp enough and its amplitude much exceeds the twice penetration
magnetic field, the pulse magnetization technique becomes extremely sensitive
to the sample inhomogeneities. Using this method with appropriate parameters of
the magnetic pulse, we have particularly demonstrated that the growth of YBCO
crystals in the growth sectors (GSs) responds for a macroscopic arrangement of
weaks links -- they mostly appear inside of GSs, but not along the GS

Military spending and economic growth in China: a regime-switching analysis
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.This article investigates the impact of military spending changes on economic growth in China over the period 1953 to 2010. Using two-state Markov-switching specifications, the results suggest that the relationship between military spending changes and economic growth is state dependent. Specifically, the results show that military spending changes affect the economic growth negatively during a slower growth-higher variance state, while positively within a faster growth-lower variance one. It is also demonstrated that military spending changes contain information about the growth transition probabilities. As a policy tool, the results indicate that increases in military spending can be detrimental to growth during slower growth-higher growth volatility periods. © 2014 © 2014 The Author(s). Direct neutron capture of 48Ca at kT = 52 keV
The neutron capture cross section of 48Ca was measured relative to the known
gold cross section at kT = 52 keV using the fast cyclic activation technique.
The experiment was performed at the Van-de-Graaff accelerator, Universitaet
Tuebingen. The new experimental result is in good agreement with a calculation
using the direct capture model. The 1/v behaviour of the capture cross section
at thermonuclear energies is confirmed, and the adopted reaction rate which is
