PCLIPS
CLIPS is an expert system, created specifically to allow rapid implementation of an expert system. CLIPS is written in C, and thus needs a very small amount of memory to run. Parallel CLIPS (PCLIPS) is an extension to CLIPS which is intended to be used in situations where a group of expert systems are expected to run simultaneously and occasionally communicate with each other on an integrated network. PCLIPS is a coarse-grained data distribution system. Its main goal is to take information in one knowledge base and distribute it to other knowledge bases so that all the executing expert systems are able to use that knowledge to solve their disparate problems
Commensurability classes of twist knots
In this paper we prove that if is the complement of a non-fibered twist
knot in , then is not commensurable to a fibered knot
complement in a -homology sphere. To prove this result
we derive a recursive description of the character variety of twist knots and
then prove that a commensurability criterion developed by D. Calegari and N.
Dunfield is satisfied for these varieties. In addition, we partially extend our
results to a second infinite family of 2-bridge knots.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
What are we learning from the relative orientation between density structures and the magnetic field in molecular clouds?
We investigate the conditions of ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence
responsible for the relative orientation between density structures,
characterized by their gradient, , and the magnetic field,
, in molecular clouds (MCs). For that purpose, we construct an
expression for the time evolution of the angle, , between
and based on the transport equations of MHD
turbulence. Using this expression, we find that the configuration where
and are mostly parallel, , and where
and are mostly perpendicular, ,
constitute attractors, that is, the system tends to evolve towards either of
these configurations and they are more represented than others. This fact would
explain the predominant alignment or anti-alignment between column density,
, structures and the projected magnetic field orientation,
, reported in observations. Additionally, we find that
departures from the configurations are related to convergent
flows, quantified by the divergence of the velocity field,
, in the presence of a relatively strong magnetic
field. This would explain the observed change in relative orientation between
-structures and towards MCs, from mostly parallel at low
to mostly perpendicular at the highest , as the result of the
gravitational collapse and/or convergence of flows. Finally, we show that the
density threshold that marks the observed change in relative orientation
towards MCs, from and being mostly parallel at low
to mostly perpendicular at the highest , is related to the magnetic field
strength and constitutes a crucial piece of information for determining the
role of the magnetic field in the dynamics of MCs.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures. Submitted to A&
An enumeration process for racks
Given a presentation for a rack , we define a process which
systematically enumerates the elements of . The process is modeled
on the systematic enumeration of cosets first given by Todd and Coxeter. This
generalizes and improves the diagramming method for -quandles introduced by
Winker. We provide pseudocode that is similar to that given by Holt for the
Todd-Coxeter process. We prove that the process terminates if and only if
is finite, in which case, the procedure outputs an operation table
for the finite rack. We conclude with an application to knot theory.Comment: 23 pages, 3 figures, pseudocode included, article revised according

Involutory quandles of (2,2,r)-Montesinos links
In this paper we show that Montesinos links of the form L(1/2, 1/2, p/q;e),
which we call (2,2,r)-Montesinos links, have finite involutory quandles. This
generalizes an observation of Winker regarding the (2, 2, q)-pretzel links. We
also describe some properties of these quandles.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figure
