Structure of the lightest scalar meson from the 1/Nc expansion of Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory and Regge Theory
One-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (UChPT) calculations, suggest
a different Nc behaviour for the sigma or f_0(600) and rho(770) mesons: while
the rho meson becomes narrower with Nc, as is expected for a q-qbar meson, the
sigma becomes broader, and its contribution to the total cross section is less
and less important. On the other hand, local duality requires a cancellation
between the sigma and rho amplitudes, but if there is a different Nc behaviour
for them, there is a possible contradiction between the Inverse Amplitude
Method (IAM) and local duality for large Nc. However, next to next to leading
order UChPT calculations suggested a subdominant q-qbar component for the sigma
with a mass around 1.2 GeV. In this work, we show that this subdominant q-qbar
component is indeed needed to ensure local duality.Comment: To appear in the Proceedings of the Hadron09 International

Immediately after early- and late-season defoliation treatments, relative growth rates for tiller height and total green length were reduced (p<0.05) on plants of both species with respect to control plants. Our results suggest that a one-year-period without severe defoliations after fire would be at least necessary for not risking the persistence of these perennial grasses in the Caldenal community.Fil: Pelaez, Daniel Valerio. Chiral Perturbation Theory, the expansion and Regge behaviour determine the structure of the lightest scalar meson
The leading behaviour of Unitarised Chiral Perturbation Theory
distinguishes the nature of the and the . At one loop order the
is a meson, while the is not. However, semi-local
duality between resonances and Regge behaviour cannot be satisfied for larger
, if such a distinction holds. While the at is inevitably
dominated by its di-pion component, Unitarised Chiral Perturbation Theory
beyond one loop order reveals that as increases above 6-8, the
has a sub-dominant fraction up at 1.2 GeV. Remarkably this ensures
semi-local duality is fulfilled for the range of , where the
unitarisation procedure adopted applies.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures. Version to be published in Physical Review
Fil: Pelaez, Daniel V.. Provincia de Buenos Aires. Gobernación. Dynamical study of the light scalar mesons below 1 GeV in a flux-tube model
The light scalar mesons below 1 GeV as tetraquark states are studied in the
framework of the flux-tube model, the multi-body confinement instead of the
additive two-body confinement is used. From the calculated results, we find
that the light scalar mesons, , could be well accommodated in
the diquark-antidiquark tetraquark picture in the flux-tube model and they
could be color confinement resonances. The mass of the first radial excited
state of is 1019 MeV, which is close to the mass of
. Whereas can not be fitted in this interpretation.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur
The Dichotomous Nucleon: Some Radical Conjectures for the Large Nc Limit
We discuss some problems with the large Nc approximation for nucleons which
arise if the axial coupling of the nucleon to pions is large, g_A \sim Nc.
While g_A \sim Nc in non-relativistic quark and Skyrme models, it has been
suggested that Skyrmions may collapse to a small size, r \sim 1/f_pi \sim
Lambda_QCD^{-1}/sqrt(Nc). (This is also the typical scale over which the string
vertex moves in a string vertex model of the baryon.) We concentrate on the
case of two flavors, where we suggest that to construct a nucleon with a small
axial coupling, that most quarks are bound into colored diquark pairs, which
have zero spin and isospin. For odd Nc, this leaves one unpaired quark, which
carries the spin and isospin of the nucleon. If the unpaired quark is in a
spatial wavefunction orthogonal to the wavefunctions of the scalar diquarks,
then up to logarithms of Nc, the unpaired quark only costs an energy \sim
Lambda_QCD. This naturally gives g_A \sim 1 and has other attractive features.
In nature, the wavefunctions of the paired and unpaired quarks might only be
approximately orthogonal; then g_A depends weakly upon Nc. This dichotomy in
wave functions could arise if the unpaired quark orbits at a size which is
parametrically large in comparison to that of the diquarks. We discuss possible
tests of these ideas from numerical simulations on the lattice, for two flavors
and three and five colors; the extension of our ideas to more than three or
more flavors is not obvious, though.Comment: Published version in Nucl. Phys.
Three-Body Dynamics and Self-Powering of an Electrodynamic Tether in a Plasmasphere
The dynamics of an electrodynamic tether in a three-body gravitational environment are investigated. In the classical two-body scenario the extraction of power is at the expense of orbital kinetic energy. As a result of power extraction, an electrodynamic tether satellite system loses altitude and deorbits. This concept has been proposed and well investigated in the past, for example for orbital debris mitigation and spent stages reentry. On the other hand, in the three-body scenario an electrodynamic tether can be placed in an equilibrium position fixed with respect to the two primary bodies without deorbiting, and at the same time generate power for onboard use. The appearance of new equilibrium positions in the perturbed three-body problem allow this to happen as the electrical power is extracted at the expenses of the plasma corotating with the primary body. Fundamental differences between the classical twobody dynamics and the new phenomena appearing in the circular restricted three-body problem perturbed by the electrodynamic force of the electrodynamic tether are shown in the paper. An interesting application of an electrodynamic tether placed in the Jupiter plasma torus is then considered, in which the electrodynamic tether generates useful electrical power of about 1 kW with a 20-km-long electrodynamic tether from the environmental plasma without losing orbital energy
