Operating and maintaining underground outlet terrace systems (1993)

    Get PDF
The proper operation of underground outlet terrace systems depends on good farming practices, frequent inspections and prompt correction of problems. Inspect your systems soon after each significant rainfall. This is the best time to see existing or potential problems. Plainly marked inlets and outlets make this chore easy. Timely repairs or replacements normally lower maintenance costs, increase the life of the system and prevent serious problems

Odors from livestock operations : causes and possible cures (1999)

    Get PDF
Complaints about livestock odors have increased as growth in the number of large livestock operations, especially swine operations, increases the concentration of animals in small geographical areas. Many of these large operations store manure for long periods under anaerobic conditions in open manure storages or lagoons. Migration of urban residents seeking the perceived benefits of country living, such as quiet solitude and clean air, has increased the population density surrounding many livestock operations.New 9/99/3M

    No-till planting systems (1993)

    Get PDF
In no-tillage planting systems, a planting is made directly into an essentially unprepared seedbed. Evaluate the economical and practical feasibility if you consider a no-till planting system. This publication will discuss aspects of no-till planting systems

Optical bias control of dispersive relaxations in α-Si:H

    Get PDF
Journal ArticleRelaxation of the photoinduced ir absorption band in α-Si:H was studied in the microsecond time domain as a function of cw bias illumination. The decays follow a power law t-α where the dispersion parameter a increases with bias illumination. At low temperatures, a increases linearly with the steady-state carrier density while at high temperatures it saturates at high illumination levels. These results are interpreted as evidence for the bias-controlled tunneling process at low temperatures and multiple trapping process with tail states under the saturation condition at high temperatures

Photoinduced absorption spectra in α-GeH and α-Si:H

    Get PDF
Journal ArticleMeasurements of steady-state photoinduced absorption in α-Ge:H and α-Si:H were extended to cover the energy range from 0.25 to 1.9 eV. The subgap photoinduced-absorption bands in both materials are interpreted in terms of four kinds of optical transitions of photogenerated carriers from traps in the gap into the bands; two transitions produce absorption and two bleaching. This model explains the approximately symmetric form of the photoinduced-absorption band in α-Ge:H previously ascribed to polaron absorption

    Fertilizer nutrients in dairy manure

    Get PDF
Pdf created from MU Extension webpage, July 2022."Many dairy producers fall into one of two categories: (1) They are willing to make high capital and labor outlays to maximize the usage of their dairy wastes for crop production (2) They are willing to minimize the amount of nutrients returned to the land for crop production in exchange for a relatively low-cost and low-labor method of waste disposal. Producers in the first category usually use slurry systems with tanks for waste storage, and tank wagons with injectors to transport and apply the waste. Producers in the second category use lagoons for storage/treatment, and irrigation equipment to transport and apply the waste to their fields. To have value, wastes must be used in a manner that results in a salable product. This publication describes methods of recovering a portion of the plant nutrient value of dairy wastes."--Page 1.Reviewed by David Brune (Department of Agricultural Engineering), Charles D.
