Frame-Like Action and Unfolded Formulation for Massive Higher-Spin Fields
Unfolded equations of motion for symmetric massive bosonic fields of any spin
in Minkowski and (A)dS spaces are presented. Manifestly gauge invariant action
for a spin massive field in any dimension is constructed in terms of
gauge invariant curvatures.Comment: 36 pages, 3 figures; added references, corrected typos, minor

Quantal Two-Centre Coulomb Problem treated by means of the Phase-Integral Method II. Quantization Conditions in the Symmetric Case Expressed in Terms of Complete Elliptic Integrals. Numerical Illustration
The contour integrals, occurring in the arbitrary-order phase-integral
quantization conditions given in a previous paper, are in the first- and
third-order approximations expressed in terms of complete elliptic integrals in
the case that the charges of the Coulomb centres are equal. The evaluation of
the integrals is facilitated by the knowledge of quasiclassical dynamics. The
resulting quantization conditions involving complete elliptic integrals are
solved numerically to obtain the energy eigenvalues and the separation
constants of the and states of the hydrogen molecule ion
for various values of the internuclear distance. The accuracy of the formulas
obtained is illustrated by comparison with available numerically exact results.Comment: 19 pages, RevTeX 4, 4 EPS figures, submitted to J. Math. Phy
Non-abelian cubic vertices for higher-spin fields in anti-de Sitter space
We use the Fradkin-Vasiliev procedure to construct the full set of
non-abelian cubic vertices for totally symmetric higher spin gauge fields in
anti-de Sitter space. The number of such vertices is given by a certain
tensor-product multiplicity. We discuss the one-to-one relation between our
result and the list of non-abelian gauge deformations in flat space obtained
elsewhere via the cohomological approach. We comment about the uniqueness of
Vasiliev's simplest higher-spin algebra in relation with the (non)associativity
properties of the gauge algebras that we classified. The gravitational
interactions for (partially)-massless (mixed)-symmetry fields are also
discussed. We also argue that those mixed-symmetry and/or partially-massless
fields that are described by one-form connections within the frame-like
approach can have nonabelian interactions among themselves and again the number
of nonabelian vertices should be given by tensor product multiplicities.Comment: 30 pages, v2: minor corrections, reference adde
Excitation of the electric pygmy dipole resonance by inelastic electron scattering
To complete earlier studies of the properties of the electric pygmy dipole
resonance (PDR) obtained in various nuclear reactions, the excitation of the
1 states in Ce by scattering for momentum transfers
~fm is calculated within the plane-wave and distorted-wave
Born approximations. The excited states of the nucleus are described within the
Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA), but also within the
Quasiparticle-Phonon Model (QPM) by accounting for the coupling to complex
configurations. It is demonstrated that the excitation mechanism of the PDR
states in reactions is predominantly of transversal nature for
scattering angles . Being thus mediated by the
convection and spin nuclear currents, the like the
reaction, may provide additional information to the one obtained from Coulomb-
and hadronic excitations of the PDR in , , and
heavy-ion scattering reactions. The calculations predict that the
cross sections for the strongest individual PDR states are in general about
three orders of magnitude smaller as compared to the one of the lowest
state for the studied kinematics, but that they may become dominant at extreme
backward angles.Comment: Prepared for the special issue of EPJA on the topic "Giant, Pygmy,

On the uniqueness of higher-spin symmetries in AdS and CFT
We study the uniqueness of higher-spin algebras which are at the core of
higher-spin theories in AdS and of CFTs with exact higher-spin symmetry, i.e.
conserved tensors of rank greater than two. The Jacobi identity for the gauge
algebra is the simplest consistency test that appears at the quartic order for
a gauge theory. Similarly, the algebra of charges in a CFT must also obey the
Jacobi identity. These algebras are essentially the same. Solving the Jacobi
identity under some simplifying assumptions spelled out, we obtain that the
Eastwood-Vasiliev algebra is the unique solution for d=4 and d>6. In 5d there
is a one-parameter family of algebras that was known before. In particular, we
show that the introduction of a single higher-spin gauge field/current
automatically requires the infinite tower of higher-spin gauge fields/currents.
The result implies that from all the admissible non-Abelian cubic vertices in
AdS(d), that have been recently classified for totally symmetric higher-spin
gauge fields, only one vertex can pass the Jacobi consistency test. This cubic
vertex is associated with a gauge deformation that is the germ of the
Eastwood-Vasiliev's higher-spin algebra.Comment: 37 pages; refs added, proof of uniquiness was improve
Self-consistent approach for the quantum confined Stark effect in shallow quantum wells
A computationally efficient, self-consistent complex scaling approach to
calculating characteristics of excitons in an external electric field in
quantum wells is introduced. The method allows one to extract the resonance
position as well as the field-induced broadening for the exciton resonance. For
the case of strong confinement the trial function is represented in factorized
form. The corresponding coupled self-consistent equations, which include the
effective complex potentials, are obtained. The method is applied to the
shallow quantum well. It is shown that in this case the real part of the
effective exciton potential is insensitive to changes of external electric
field up to the ionization threshold, while the imaginary part has
non-analytical field dependence and small for moderate electric fields. This
allows one to express the exciton quasi-energy at some field through the
renormalized expression for the zero-field bound state.Comment: 13 pages, RevTeX4, 6 figure
Calculations of exchange interaction in impurity band of two-dimensional semiconductors with out of plane impurities
We calculate the singlet-triplet splitting for a couple of two-dimensional
electrons in the potential of two positively charged impurities which are
located out of plane. We consider different relations between vertical
distances of impurities and and their lateral distance . Such a
system has never been studied in atomic physics but the methods, worked out for
regular two-atomic molecules and helium atom, have been found to be useful.
Analytical expressions for several different limiting configurations of
impurities are obtained an interpolated formula for intermediate range of
parameters is proposed. The -dependence of the splitting is shown to become
weaker with increasing .Comment: 14 pages, RevTeX, 5 figures. Submitted to Phys Rev.
