From a-value to value-multiplication: leveraging outbound open innovation practices for unrelated diversification in the sensor industry
Open innovation, as a connection-driven innovation paradigm, provides a set of practices, stimulating collaborative and intrapreneurial actions, while facilitating the rethinking of antiquated business models and value propositions. This research contributes to the extant open innovation and technology management literature by (a) conceptualising outbound open innovation and delineating it into two sub-modes: inward and outward and (b) elucidating the role of outbound open innovation as a vehicle for unrelated diversification and enabler of intrapreneurial aptitude within a technology-driven ecosystem. Fifteen in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted within a leading producer of sensing solutions, illuminate new value-creation narratives, grounded in intra and cross-industry innovation, providing novel research and management insights on utilising outbound open innovation practices as a means of leveraging un/under-utilised organisational resources towards developing diversified commercialised offerings and value-adding capability-based activities

A task completion engine to enhance search session support for air traffic work tasks
Providing support for users during their search sessions has been hailed as a major challenge in interactive information retrieval (IIR). Providing such support requires considering the context of the search and facilitating the work task at hand. In this paper, we consider the work tasks associated with air traffic analysts, who perform numerous searches using a multifaceted search interface in order to acquire business intelligence regarding particular events and situations. In particular, we develop a novel task completion engine and seamlessly incorporated it within a current air traffic search system to facilitate the comparison of information objects found. In a study with 24 participants, we found that they completed the complex work task faster using the comparison feature, but for simple work tasks, participants were slower. However, participants reported (statistically) significantly higher satisfaction and had (statistically) significantly higher accuracy using the search system equipped with task completion engine. These findings help to steer systems to provide a better support to users in their search process. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017

An Intelligent Marketspace Mobile Application for Marketing Organic Products
Sustainable food security (Sfs) desires not only that people always have passage to ample and nutritious food, but also that this food be formed with minimum environmental impact. This research is aimed at developing a mobile application for marketing organic farm products with the functionality of automated geo-location services, preferred goods delivery services, easy access to different organic farm produce. The mobile user platform consists of the Presentation, Business, Data and Data storage which is a slight variation of the Model-View-Controller architecture. It also takes into deep awareness the configuration, security and communications aspect as these are the underlying factors for the robustness of mobile application. The Presentation Tier consists of the user interface and the logic used to navigate around the user interface meaningfully. It modifies and shows information into a human distinct pattern. The Business Logic tier is essentially efficient for information transfer between the user interface and the database of the project. The last layer of the three-tiered architecture is the Data Access tier, which is made up of the Database servers. The application was implemented in Java, SQLite (local) and PHP for the backend server and Amazon Web Services for cloud infrastructure. Farmers were engaged in cursory testing. Users find the application concept very interesting
