Multi-objective optimization in WEDM of D3 tool steel using integrated approach of Taguchi method & Grey relational analysis
In this paper, wire electrical discharge machining of D3 tool steel is studied. Influence of pulse-on time, pulse-off time, peak current and wire speed are investigated for MRR, dimensional deviation, gap current and machining time, during intricate machining of D3 tool steel. Taguchi method is used for single characteristics optimization and to optimize all four process parameters simultaneously, Grey relational analysis (GRA) is employed along with Taguchi method. Through GRA, grey relational grade is used as a performance index to determine the optimal setting of process parameters for multiobjective characteristics. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) shows that the peak current is the most significant parameters affecting on multi-objective characteristics. Confirmatory results, proves the potential of GRA to optimize process parameters successfully for multi-objective characteristics
Searching and fixating: scale-invariance vs. characteristic timescales in attentional processes
In an experiment involving semantic search, the visual movements of sample
populations subjected to visual and aural input were tracked in a taskless
paradigm. The probability distributions of saccades and fixations were obtained
and analyzed. Scale-invariance was observed in the saccadic distributions,
while the fixation distributions revealed the presence of a characteristic
(attentional) time scale for literate subjects. A detailed analysis of our
results suggests that saccadic eye motions are an example of Levy, rather than
Brownian, dynamics.Comment: Accepted to Europhysics Letters (2011
Hall effect in cobalt-doped TiO
We report Hall effect measurements on thin films of cobalt-doped
TiO. Films with low carrier concentrations (10 - 10)
yield a linear behavior in the Hall data while those having higher carrier
concentrations (10 - 10) display anomalous behavior near zero
field. In the entire range of carrier concentration, n-type conduction is
observed. The appearance of the anomalous behavior is accompanied by a possible
structural change from rutile TiO to Ti_[n}O Magneli phase(s)
Temperature dependent optical studies of TiCoO
We present the results of Raman and photoluminescence (PL) studies on
epitaxial anatase phase TiCoO films for = 0-0.07, grown by
pulsed laser deposition. The low doped system (=0.01 and 0.02) shows a Curie
temperature of ~700 K in the as-grown state. The Raman spectra from the doped
and undoped films confirm their anatase phase. The photoluminescence spectrum
is characterized by a broad emission from self-trapped excitons (STE) at 2.3 eV
at temperatures below 120 K. This peak is characteristic of the anatase-phase
TiO and shows a small blueshift with increasing doping concentration. In
addition to the emission from STE, the Co-doped samples show two emission lines
at 2.77 eV and 2.94 eV that are absent in the undoped film indicative of a
spin-flip energy.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
A Review on use of Mistake Proof (Poka Yoke) Locating Fixture on Ultra SD Cartridge Assembly Line
Manufacturing defects are the major concern of all manufacturing industries. These defects occur due to poor material quality or lack of skilled labour. This paper focuses upon one such operation that was dependent on the skills of the operator which was deskilled by one of the successful devices in lean production which is used to eliminate waste caused by errors i.e ‘mistake-proofing' or ‘Poka-yoke'. The use of Poka Yoke in the Ultra SD Cartridge assembly operation eliminated the requirement of skilled operator. This was effectively done by introducing a new locating fixture on the assembly line
Superconducting MgB2 thin films by pulsed laser deposition
Growth of MgB2 thin films by pulsed laser deposition is examined under ex
situ and in situ processing conditions. For the ex situ process, Boron films
grown by PLD were annealed at 900 C with excess Mg. For the in situ process,
different approaches involving ablation from a stoichiometric target under
different growth conditions, as well as multilayer deposition involving
interposed Mg layers were examined and analyzed. Magnetic measurements on ex
situ processed films show TC of ~39 K, while the current best in situ films
show a susceptibility transition at ~ 22 K.Comment: 3 pages, PD
Coarse grained dynamics of the freely cooling granular gas in one dimension
We study the dynamics and structure of clusters in the inhomogeneous
clustered regime of a freely cooling granular gas of point particles in one
dimension. The coefficient of restitution is modeled as or 1 depending
on whether the relative speed is greater or smaller than a velocity scale
. The effective fragmentation rate of a cluster is shown to rise
sharply beyond a dependent time scale. This crossover is coincident
with the velocity fluctuations within a cluster becoming order . Beyond
this crossover time, the cluster size distribution develops a nontrivial power
law distribution, whose scaling properties are related to those of the velocity
fluctuations. We argue that these underlying features are responsible behind
the recently observed nontrivial coarsening behaviour in the one dimensional
freely cooling granular gas.Comment: 7 Pages, 9 Figure
