Monge Distance between Quantum States
We define a metric in the space of quantum states taking the Monge distance
between corresponding Husimi distributions (Q--functions). This quantity
fulfills the axioms of a metric and satisfies the following semiclassical
property: the distance between two coherent states is equal to the Euclidean
distance between corresponding points in the classical phase space. We compute
analytically distances between certain states (coherent, squeezed, Fock and
thermal) and discuss a scheme for numerical computation of Monge distance for
two arbitrary quantum states.Comment: 9 pages in LaTex - RevTex + 2 figures in ps. submitted to Phys. Rev.
Coherent States Measurement Entropy
Coherent states (CS) quantum entropy can be split into two components. The
dynamical entropy is linked with the dynamical properties of a quantum system.
The measurement entropy, which tends to zero in the semiclassical limit,
describes the unpredictability induced by the process of a quantum approximate
measurement. We study the CS--measurement entropy for spin coherent states
defined on the sphere discussing different methods dealing with the time limit
. In particular we propose an effective technique of computing
the entropy by iterated function systems. The dependence of CS--measurement
entropy on the character of the partition of the phase space is analysed.Comment: revtex, 22 pages, 14 figures available upon request (e-mail:

A model of management academics' intentions to influence values
Business schools face increased criticism for failing in the teaching of management studies to nurture their students’ values. Assuming that individual academics play an important role in shaping the value-related influence of business schools, I model management academics’ intentions to influence values. The suggested model encompasses academics’ economic and social values as internal variables, as well as perceived support for attempting to influence values and academic tenure as social and structural variables. A test with empirical data from 1,254 management academics worldwide reveals that perceived external support is most relevant for explaining intentions. Moreover, academics’ social values, but not their economic ones, contribute to an explanation of their intentions to influence values. The results reveal how important it is for academics to believe that their colleagues, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders support their value-related behavioral intentions

Production and Characterization of Laccase from Botrytis cinerea 61-34
An isolate of Botrytis cinerea (strain 61-34) constitutively expresses substantial amounts of extracellular laccase on a defined growth medium. The enzyme has been purified to homogeneity by a facile operational sequence, the last stage of which involves hydrophobic interaction chromatography. By these means, over 80 mg of laccase liter(sup-1) can be obtained from aerated fermentor reaction broths. The enzyme, with an estimated M(infr) of 74,000 and pI of 4.0, is a monomeric glycoprotein containing 49% carbohydrate predominantly as hexose. With 2,6-dimethoxyphenol, it exhibits a pH optimum of 3.5 and a temperature optimum of 60(deg)C, and its K(infm) is 100 (mu)M. The purified enzyme with this substrate has a specific activity of 9.1 mkat mg of protein(sup-1). Taken together with a broad substrate range and its stability in 4% sodium dodecyl sulfate or 2 M urea solutions, several biotechnology transfers are suggested.</jats:p
