Integrable Top Equations associated with Projective Geometry over Z_2
We give a series of integrable top equations associated with the projective
geometry over Z_2 as a (2^n-1)-dimensional generalisation of the 3D Euler top
equations. The general solution of the (2^n-1)D top is shown to be given by an
integration over a Riemann surface with genus (2^{n-1}-1)^2.Comment: 8 pages, Late
Toda Lattice Hierarchy and Zamolodchikov's Conjecture
In this letter, we show that certain Fredholm determinant ,
introduced by Zamolodchikov in his study of 2D polymers, is a continuum limit
of soliton solution for the Toda lattice hierarchy with 2-periodic reduction
condition.Comment: 6 pages, LaTeX file, no figure
Ordered phase and scaling in models and the three-state antiferromagnetic Potts model in three dimensions
Based on a Renormalization-Group picture of symmetric models in three
dimensions, we derive a scaling law for the order parameter in the
ordered phase. An existing Monte Carlo calculation on the three-state
antiferromagnetic Potts model, which has the effective symmetry, is shown
to be consistent with the proposed scaling law. It strongly supports the
Renormalization-Group picture that there is a single massive ordered phase,
although an apparently rotationally symmetric region in the intermediate
temperature was observed numerically.Comment: 5 pages in REVTEX, 2 PostScript figure
Self-dual Einstein Spaces, Heavenly Metrics and Twistors
Four-dimensional quaternion-Kahler metrics, or equivalently self-dual
Einstein spaces M, are known to be encoded locally into one real function h
subject to Przanowski's Heavenly equation. We elucidate the relation between
this description and the usual twistor description for quaternion-Kahler
spaces. In particular, we show that the same space M can be described by
infinitely many different solutions h, associated to different complex (local)
submanifolds on the twistor space, and therefore to different (local)
integrable complex structures on M. We also study quaternion-Kahler
deformations of M and, in the special case where M has a Killing vector field,
show that the corresponding variations of h are related to eigenmodes of the
conformal Laplacian on M. We exemplify our findings on the four-sphere S^4, the
hyperbolic plane H^4 and on the "universal hypermultiplet", i.e. the
hypermultiplet moduli space in type IIA string compactified on a rigid
Calabi-Yau threefold.Comment: 44 pages, 1 figure; misprints correcte
3-D Model of Broadband Emission from Supernova Remnants Undergoing Non-linear Diffusive Shock Acceleration
We present a 3-dimensional model of supernova remnants (SNRs) where the
hydrodynamical evolution of the remnant is modeled consistently with nonlinear
diffusive shock acceleration occuring at the outer blast wave. The model
includes particle escape and diffusion outside of the forward shock, and
particle interactions with arbitrary distributions of external ambient
material, such as molecular clouds. We include synchrotron emission and
cooling, bremsstrahlung radiation, neutral pion production, inverse-Compton
(IC), and Coulomb energy-loss. Boardband spectra have been calculated for
typical parameters including dense regions of gas external to a 1000 year old
SNR. In this paper, we describe the details of our model but do not attempt a
detailed fit to any specific remnant. We also do not include magnetic field
amplification (MFA), even though this effect may be important in some young
remnants. In this first presentation of the model we don't attempt a detailed
fit to any specific remnant. Our aim is to develop a flexible platform, which
can be generalized to include effects such as MFA, and which can be easily
adapted to various SNR environments, including Type Ia SNRs, which explode in a
constant density medium, and Type II SNRs, which explode in a pre-supernova
wind. When applied to a specific SNR, our model will predict cosmic-ray spectra
and multi-wavelength morphology in projected images for instruments with
varying spatial and spectral resolutions. We show examples of these spectra and
images and emphasize the importance of measurements in the hard X-ray, GeV, and
TeV gamma-ray bands for investigating key ingredients in the acceleration
mechanism, and for deducing whether or not TeV emission is produced by IC from
electrons or neutral pions from protons.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, accepted by Apj, 24 June 200

Numerical and experimental verification of a theoretical model of ripple formation in ice growth under supercooled water film flow
Little is known about morphological instability of a solidification front
during the crystal growth of a thin film of flowing supercooled liquid with a
free surface: for example, the ring-like ripples on the surface of icicles. The
length scale of the ripples is nearly 1 cm. Two theoretical models for the
ripple formation mechanism have been proposed. However, these models lead to
quite different results because of differences in the boundary conditions at
the solid-liquid interface and liquid-air surface. The validity of the
assumption used in the two models is numerically investigated and some of the
theoretical predictions are compared with experiments.Comment: 30 pages, 9 figure
