The Effects of Inlet Flow Modification on Cavitating Inducer Performance
This paper explores the effect of inlet flow modification on the cavitating and noncavitating performance of two cavitating inducers, one of simple helical design and the other a model of the low-pressure LOX pump in the Space Shuttle Main Engine. The modifications were generated by sections of honeycomb, both uniform and nonuniform. Significant improvement in the performance over a wide range of flow coefficients resulted from the use of either honeycomb section. Measurements of the axial and swirl velocity profiles of the flows entering the inducers were made in order to try to understand the nature of the inlet flow and the manner in which it is modified by the honeycomb sections
Linear and nonlinear coupling of quantum dots in microcavities
We discuss the topical and fundamental problem of strong-coupling between a
quantum dot an the single mode of a microcavity. We report seminal quantitative
descriptions of experimental data, both in the linear and in the nonlinear
regimes, based on a theoretical model that includes pumping and quantum

Exciting polaritons with quantum light
We discuss the excitation of polaritons---strongly-coupled states of light
and matter---by quantum light, instead of the usual laser or thermal
excitation. As one illustration of the new horizons thus opened, we introduce
Mollow spectroscopy, a theoretical concept for a spectroscopic technique that
consists in scanning the output of resonance fluorescence onto an optical
target, from which weak nonlinearities can be read with high precision even in

Scaling of the conductance in gold nanotubes
A new form of gold nanobridges has been recently observed in ultrahigh-vacuum
experiments, where the gold atoms rearrange to build helical nanotubes, akin in
some respects to carbon nanotubes. The good reproducibility of these wires and
their unexpected stability will allow for conductance measurements and make
them promising candidates for future applications . We present here a study of
the transport properties of these nanotubes in order to understand the role of
chirality and of the different orbitals in quantum transport observables. The
conductance per atomic row shows a light decreasing trend as the diameter
grows, which is also shown through an analytical formula based on a one-orbital

Borg scale and intensity in running and specific tennis training
Se determinaron las diferencias en la intensidad y la valoración subjetiva de la fatiga en entrenamientos de carrera continua y específicos de tenis. Trece tenistas varones jóvenes tomaron parte en tres entrenamientos de resistencia de tipo continuo de 14 minutos de duración. Uno general consistente en carrera continua (CC), otro específico de peloteo cruzado (EP), y por último uno específico competitivo mediante puntos (EC). Fue registrada la frecuencia cardiaca; y se valoró, al finalizar las tres pruebas, el lactato y la percepción de la fatiga. Se registraron valores más altos de frecuencia cardiaca y lactato en los dos ejercicios específicos, siendo significativamente superiores en EC respecto a CC (Frecuencia cardiaca p>0.0054. Lactato p>0.0320). Sin embargo, en la Escala de Borg no hubo diferencias significativas. Este estudio sugiere, para este grupo, que los valores de la Escala de Borg en ejercicios específicos de tenis pueden infravalorar la intensidad en relación con los de carreraDifferences in intensity and subjective valuation of fatigue in continous running trainings and specific tennis exercises were determined. Thirteen young mal tennis players took part in three continuous type endurance training with 14 minutes length. A general one consisting of continuous running (CC) a specific one of a cross-knock up (EP) and finally a competitive specific one by points (EC). The heart rate was recorded and the lactate and perception of fatigue were evaluated at the end of the three tests. Higher heart rate and lactate values were recorded in the two specific exercises being significantly higher in EC regardin to CC (Heart rate p>0.0054. Lactate p>0.0320). However, there were no significant differences in the Borg Scale. This study suggest that the values of the Borg Scale in specific tennis exercises may undervalue the intensity in relation to the running value
Electrostatic control of quantum dot entanglement induced by coupling to external reservoirs
We propose a quantum transport experiment to prepare and measure
charge-entanglement between two electrostatically defined quantum dots.
Coherent population trapping, as realized in cavity quantum electrodynamics,
can be carried out by using a third quantum dot to play the role of the optical
cavity. In our proposal, a pumping which is quantum mechanically
indistinguishable for the quantum dots drives the system into a state with a
high degree of entanglement. The whole effect can be switched on and off by
means of a gate potential allowing both state preparation and entanglement

Superconducting/magnetic three state nanodevice for memory and reading applications
We present a simple nanodevice that can operate in two modes: i) three-state
memory and ii) reading device. The nanodevice is fabricated with an array of
ordered triangular-shaped nanomagnets embedded in a superconducting thin film.
The input signal is ac current and the output signal is dc voltage. Vortex
ratchet effect in combination with out of plane magnetic anisotropy of the
nanomagnets is the background physics which governs the nanodevice performance.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
The Cambrian-Ordovician siliciclastic platform of the Balcarce Formation (Tandilia System, Argentina) : Facies, trace fossils, palaeoenvironments and sequence stratigraphy
The Lower Palaeozoic sedimentary cover of the Tandilia (Balcarce Formation) is made up of thick quartz arenite beds together with kaolinitic claystones and thin fine-grained conglomerates. The Balcarce Formation was formed in the nearshore and inner shelf environments of a tide-dominated and storm influenced open platform. It shows many features suggesting tidal sedimentation. Coarse-grained facies were formed by sand bar migration and accretion. Heterolithic packages are interpreted as interbar (swale) deposits. Subordinated HCS sandstones indicate storm events. The recognition of thick progradational clinoforms allows to confirm that the Balcarce sea was open to the south, as suggested years ago through palaeocurrent interpretation. The great abundance and variety of trace fossils is among the most outstanding characteristics of this unit. The ichnotaxa that have been recognised so far are: Ancorichnus ancorichnus, Arthrophycus alleghaniensis, Arthrophycus isp., Bergaueria isp., Cochlichnus isp., Conostichus isp., Cruziana furcifera, Cruziana isp., Daedalus labeckei, Didymaulichnus lyelli, Didymaulichnus isp., Diplichnites isp., Diplocraterion isp., Herradurichnus scagliai, ?Monocraterion isp., Monomorphichnus isp., Palaeophycus alternatus, Palaeophycus tubularis, Palaeophycus isp., Phycodes aff. pedum, Phycodes isp., Plagiogmus isp., Planolites isp., Rusophycus isp., Scolicia isp. and Teichichnus isp. Trace fossils have traditionally been used to assign the Balcarce Formation to the Lower Ordovician, due to the presence of Cruziana furcifera. However, Plagiogmus is typical of Cambrian successions world-wide
Density operator of a system pumped with polaritons: A Jaynes-Cummings like approach
We investigate the effects of considering two different incoherent pumpings
over a microcavity-quantum dot system modelled using the Jaynes-Cummings
Hamiltonian. When the system is incoherently pumped with polaritons it is able
to sustain a large number of photons inside the cavity with Poisson-like
statistics in the stationary limit, and also leads to a separable
exciton-photon state. We also investigate the effects of both types of pumpings
(Excitonic and Polaritonic) in the emission spectrum of the cavity. We show
that the polaritonic pumping as considered here is unable to modify the
dynamical regimes of the system as the excitonics pumping does. Finally, we
obtain a closed form expression for the negativity of the density matrices that
the quantum master equation considered here generates.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure
Dynamics of formation and decay of coherence in a polariton condensate
We study the dynamics of formation and decay of a condensate of microcavity
polaritons. We investigate the relationship between the number of particles,
the emission's linewidth and its degree of linear polarization which serves as
the order parameter. Tracking the condensate's formation, we show that, even
when interactions are negligible, coherence is not determined only by
occupation of the ground state. As a result of the competition between the
coherent and thermal fractions of the condensate, the highest coherence is
obtained some time after the particle number has reached its maximum
