A mesoscopic ring as a XNOR gate: An exact result
We describe XNOR gate response in a mesoscopic ring threaded by a magnetic
flux . The ring is attached symmetrically to two semi-infinite
one-dimensional metallic electrodes and two gate voltages, viz, and
, are applied in one arm of the ring which are treated as the inputs of
the XNOR gate. The calculations are based on the tight-binding model and the
Green's function method, which numerically compute the conductance-energy and
current-voltage characteristics as functions of the ring-to-electrode coupling
strength, magnetic flux and gate voltages. Our theoretical study shows that,
for a particular value of () (, the elementary
flux-quantum), a high output current (1) (in the logical sense) appears if both
the two inputs to the gate are the same, while if one but not both inputs are
high (1), a low output current (0) results. It clearly exhibits the XNOR gate
behavior and this aspect may be utilized in designing an electronic logic gate.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
Control of quantum interference in molecular junctions: Understanding the origin of Fano and anti- resonances
We investigate within a coarse-grained model the conditions leading to the
appearance of Fano resonances or anti-resonances in the conductance spectrum of
a generic molecular junction with a side group (T-junction). By introducing a
simple graphical representation (parabolic diagram), we can easily visualize
the relation between the different electronic parameters determining the
regimes where Fano resonances or anti-resonances in the low-energy conductance
spectrum can be expected. The results obtained within the coarse-grained model
are validated using density-functional based quantum transport calculations in
realistic T-shaped molecular junctions.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
A non-autonomous stochastic discrete time system with uniform disturbances
The main objective of this article is to present Bayesian optimal control
over a class of non-autonomous linear stochastic discrete time systems with
disturbances belonging to a family of the one parameter uniform distributions.
It is proved that the Bayes control for the Pareto priors is the solution of a
linear system of algebraic equations. For the case that this linear system is
singular, we apply optimization techniques to gain the Bayesian optimal
control. These results are extended to generalized linear stochastic systems of
difference equations and provide the Bayesian optimal control for the case
where the coefficients of these type of systems are non-square matrices. The
paper extends the results of the authors developed for system with disturbances
belonging to the exponential family
A data-driven functional projection approach for the selection of feature ranges in spectra with ICA or cluster analysis
Prediction problems from spectra are largely encountered in chemometry. In
addition to accurate predictions, it is often needed to extract information
about which wavelengths in the spectra contribute in an effective way to the
quality of the prediction. This implies to select wavelengths (or wavelength
intervals), a problem associated to variable selection. In this paper, it is
shown how this problem may be tackled in the specific case of smooth (for
example infrared) spectra. The functional character of the spectra (their
smoothness) is taken into account through a functional variable projection
procedure. Contrarily to standard approaches, the projection is performed on a
basis that is driven by the spectra themselves, in order to best fit their
characteristics. The methodology is illustrated by two examples of functional
projection, using Independent Component Analysis and functional variable
clustering, respectively. The performances on two standard infrared spectra

Unstable particles as open quantum systems
We present the probability preserving description of the decaying particle
within the framework of quantum mechanics of open systems taking into account
the superselection rule prohibiting the superposition of the particle and
vacuum. In our approach the evolution of the system is given by a family of
completely positive trace preserving maps forming one-parameter dynamical
semigroup. We give the Kraus representation for the general evolution of such
systems which allows one to write the evolution for systems with two or more
particles. Moreover, we show that the decay of the particle can be regarded as
a Markov process by finding explicitly the master equation in the Lindblad
form. We also show that there are remarkable restrictions on the possible

Destruction of states in quantum mechanics
A description of destruction of states on the grounds of quantum mechanics
rather than quantum field theory is proposed. Several kinds of maps called
supertraces are defined and used to describe the destruction procedure. The
introduced algorithm can be treated as a supplement to the von Neumann-Lueders
measurement. The discussed formalism may be helpful in a description of EPR

The main aim of this article is to present the influence of corporate culture on company's stakeholders. This paper signalises the tendency in corporate communication with its internal and external publics. It is focused on two issues: corporate social responsibility and employer branding. Those two categories are consequences of corporate culture model.Głównym celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wpływu jaki wywiera charakter kultury korporacyjnej na związanych z przedsiębiorstwem interesariuszy (stakeholders). W artykule zasygnalizowane zostały główne tendencje wyznaczające charakter komunikacji między organizacją a jej wewnętrznym i zewnętrznym otoczeniem. Tekst koncentruje się na dwóch kwestiach: społecznej odpowiedzialności przedsiębiorstwa (corporate social responsibilty) i budowanie wizerunku pracodawcy (employer branding), które zaprezentowane zostały jako efekty określonego modelu kultury organizacyjnej

Decoherence in elastic and polaronic transport via discrete quantum states
Here we study the effect of decoherence on elastic and polaronic transport
via discrete quantum states. The calculations are performed with the help of
nonperturbative computational scheme, based on the Green's function theory
within the framework of polaron transformation (GFT-PT), where the many-body
electron-phonon interaction problem is mapped exactly into a single-electron
multi-channel scattering problem. In particular, the influence of dephasing and
relaxation processes on the shape of the electrical current and shot noise
curves is discussed in detail under the linear and nonlinear transport

Experimental demonstrations of spontaneous, solar-driven photoelectrochemical water splitting
Laboratory demonstrations of spontaneous photoelectrochemical (PEC) solar water splitting cells are reviewed. Reported solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiencies range from 10% STH efficiency using potentially less costly materials have been reported. Device stability is a major challenge for the field, as evidenced by lifetimes of less than 24 hours in all but a few reports. No globally accepted protocol for evaluating and certifying STH efficiencies and lifetimes exists. It is our recommendation that a protocol similar to that used by the photovoltaic community be adopted so that future demonstrations of solar PEC water splitting can be compared on equal grounds
