On Weyl sums for smaller exponents
We present a hybrid approach to bounding exponential sums over kth powers via
Vinogradov's mean value theorem, and derive estimates of utility for exponents
k of intermediate size
Current-induced switching in single ferromagnetic layer nanopillar junctions
Current induced magnetization dynamics in asymmetric Cu/Co/Cu single magnetic
layer nanopillars has been studied experimentally at room temperature and in
low magnetic fields applied perpendicular to the thin film plane. In sub-100 nm
junctions produced using a nanostencil process a bistable state with two
distinct resistance values is observed. Current sweeps at fixed applied fields
reveal hysteretic and abrupt transitions between these two resistance states.
The current induced resistance change is 0.5%, a factor of 5 greater than the
anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) effect. We present an experimentally
obtained low field phase diagram of current induced magnetization dynamics in
single ferromagnetic layer pillar junctions.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure

Thermally-Assisted Spin-Transfer Torque Magnetization Reversal of Uniaxial Nanomagnets in Energy Space
The asymptotic behavior of switching time as a function of current for a
uniaxial macrospin under the effects of both spin-torque and thermal noise is
explored analytically by focusing on its diffusive energy space dynamics. The
scaling dependence (, ) is shown
to confirm recent literature results. The analysis shows the mean switching
time to be functionally independent of the angle between the spin current and
magnet's uniaxial axes. These results have important implications for modeling
the energetics of thermally assisted magnetization reversal of spin transfer
magnetic random access memory bit cells.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1205.650
A land mobile satellite data system
The Telesat Mobile Incorporated (TMI) Mobile Data System (MDS) was developed to apply satellite technology to the transportation industry's requirement for a fleet management system. It will provide two-way messaging and automatic position reporting capabilities between dispatch centers and customers' fleets of trucks. The design was based on the Inmarsat L-Band space segment with system link parameters and margins adjusted to meet the land mobile satellite channel characteristics. The system interfaces with the Teleglobe Des Laurentides earth station at Weir, Quebec. The signaling protocols were derived from the Inmarsat Standard C packet signalling system with unique trucking requirements incorporated where necessary
p-topological and p-regular: dual notions in convergence theory
The natural duality between "topological" and "regular," both considered as
convergence space properties, extends naturally to p-regular convergence
spaces, resulting in the new concept of a p-topological convergence space.
Taking advantage of this duality, the behavior of p-topological and p-regular
convergence spaces is explored, with particular emphasis on the former, since
they have not been previously studied. Their study leads to the new notion of a
neighborhood operator for filters, which in turn leads to an especially simple
characterization of a topology in terms of convergence criteria. Applications
include the topological and regularity series of a convergence space.Comment: 12 pages in Acrobat 3.0 PDF forma
