State of the Art on Ontology Alignment
Ontology mapping as a semantic data integration approach has evolved from traditional data integration solutions. The core problems and open issues related to early data integration approaches are also applicable to ontology mapping on the Semantic Web community. Therefore, in this review the authors present the related literature, starting from the traditional data integration approaches, in order to highlight the evolution of data integration from the early approaches. Once the roots of semantic data integration have been presented, the authors proceed to introduce the state-of-the-art of the ontology mappings systems including the early approaches and the systems that can be compared through the Ontology Alignment Initiative (OAEI)
An Investigation into whether Building Information Modelling (BIM) can Assist with Construction Delay Claims
This is a conference paper. It was presented at the 1st UK Academic Conference on Building Information Modelling (BIM). The BIM website is at: http://collab.northumbria.ac.uk/bim2/It is probable that a construction project anywhere in the world will encounter some form of delay as a consequence of change. The impact of the delay on a project will vary, but it is likely to have a negative financial outcome. Compensation can be requested by an affected party in the form of a claim; however, issues of liability and quantum can be difficult given the ever increasing complexity of construction work involving numerous differing successive parallel tasks with varying levels of interrelated resources. Experts are often employed to analyse delays based on project records and report their findings to a tribunal. This paper identifies the difficulties associated with the retrieval and representation of information for delay claims and recognises technological opportunities to deal with these challenges. The potential to exploit aspects of BIM to support these possibilities are discussed, concluding that it can assist through the ease of access to coordinated contemporaneous project information and the use of visualisation through multiple dimensions. In order to support this initiative a detailed review of the literature is undertaken which forms part of an Engineering Doctorate
Safety and Efficacy of Stereoelectroencephalography in Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery
AbstractStereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) is the preoperative assessment of choice when the epileptogenic zone (EZ) is unclear in patients requiring surgery for severe, drug-refractory epilepsy. There are relatively little data on the safety and efficacy of SEEG in the pediatric epilepsy population. We, therefore, investigated the insertional complications, rate of successful identification of the EZ, and long-term seizure outcomes following surgery after SEEG in children. This was a retrospective study of drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy patients treated with surgery between 2005 and 2020 and who underwent presurgical SEEG. Rationale for and coverage of SEEG, identification of the EZ, and ultimate seizure outcome following SEEG-tailored resections were collected and analyzed. Thirty patients (15 male, mean age: 12.4 ± 5 years) who underwent SEEG were studied. SEEG-related complications occurred in one case (3%). A total of 190 multicontact electrodes (mean: 7.0 ± 2.5 per patient) were implanted across 30 insertions capturing 440 electrographic seizures (mean: 17.5 ± 27.6 per patient). The most common rationale for SEEG was normal magnetic resonance imaging with surface EEG that failed to identify the EZ (17/30; 57%). SEEG identified a putative EZ in all cases, resulting in SEEG-tailored resections in 25/30 (83%). Freedom from disabling seizures was achieved following resections in 20/25 cases (80%) with 5.9 ± 4.0 years of postoperative follow-up. SEEG is a safe and effective way to identify the EZ in the presurgical evaluation of children with refractory epilepsy and permits effective and long-lasting SEEG-tailored resections.</jats:p
